He came to them in summer, while everyone slept . . . For Detective Steve Wyckoff, the summer brought four suicides and a grisly murder to his hometown. Deaths that would haunt his dreams and lead him to the brink of madness. For David Cavanaugh, the summer brought back long forgotten dreams of childhood. Dreams that became nightmares for which there would be no escape. For Nathan Espy, the summer brought freedom from a life of abuse. Freedom purchased at the cost of his own soul. From an abyss of darkness, he came to their dreams and whispered his name. "Dust"
It started with mysterious suicides and soon turned into a murder spree. What is going on in this idyllic small town by the ocean? Steve, a detective, finds out what's the reason for the turmoil. An ancient dream demon named Dust is on the loose. It's trying to free himself from the neither-place. Will it succeed? Gosh, what a blast from the past. If you ever watched Nightmare on Elm Street you definitely have to read this one here (there even was a reference to Freddie Krueger). Ultimate dream horror ahead that will give you night terrors. Besides the book is often compared with Stephen King's It. Well, the dream demon definitely is in a league not to be messed with and ultimate evil. I also liked the episodes with the illusionary train (reminded me on King's Blaine somehow). This is a damn good horror novel that keeps you on the edge until the very end. A true gem among so much mediocre stuff. Highly recommended!
I just wasn't that into this book. Honestly, it has been a while since I have read it, so I can't give a real review of it. What I remember was crazy though and I do remember getting more into it once I had reached the middle.
