I don’t come from a happy place. My brother, Leon, and I were raised amongst criminals, our lives tainted with blood our father spilled. I never wanted that life, one filled with darkness and evil, but my brother was a different story. When I got pregnant, I made a promise that my child would never see that life. Five years ago, my worst nightmare came true, and Leon stepped in to save my baby. When it was all over, my baby safe in my arms, I knew what I had to do. I made him leave Houston, promising me to stay away. He kept his promise until two days ago. My brother showed up on my doorstep with his best friend, a man I hadn’t been able to get out of my head since meeting him three years ago by chance and uprooted my life. Now, my daughter and I are in St. Louis, surrounded by Oasis, the street racing empire my brother and his friends built, unable to leave until the threat on Oasis is neutralized. Unfortunately for me, I’m nowhere near safe, and it has everything to do with my brother’s dangerous best friend. A man I shouldn’t want, but God help me, I do.

St. Louis was my home–always has been, always will be–and street racing was my life. Growing up, my life wasn’t perfect. My father was a member of the Crew, a street organization that protected St. Louis from outsiders, threats the law couldn’t get involved in. When I turned eighteen, I became a member. Six years ago, the Italian Mafia tried to take what was ours. Five years ago, Jeremy Jones needed an outlet, so we started a street racing circuit. Four years ago, Leon Torrance rolled into town, looking to race. Together, the three of us built Oasis, the street racing headquarters of St. Louis. Three years ago, Leon and I were on a run for the Crew when I saw her: the most beautiful woman I'd ever laid eyes on. Mina Torrance. Now she’s here, in St. Louis with her daughter, under our protection. The problem? Leon doesn’t know his sister is the woman haunting my dreams. And I can’t stay away from her.

"I'd been trying to claw my way out of this life for over a decade, and I still wasn’t free."
Mina promised herself she would never go back. No matter what she would not get sucked up in her brother's life. It's too painful and she will not put her daughter through that. But what happens when Leon shows up and tells her to pack her bags? He promised to stay away and yet here he is at her door. And next to him is his best friend, a man Mina has not been able to get out of her head. She shouldn't want him and she's going to try hard to resist him. But will she succeed?
"Dontell and I couldn't cross that line, even if both of us wanted to…"
Dontell has always been at home in St. Louis. Has always felt at home in racing. He's a member of The Crew, they protect St. Louis from the really bad guys. Leon Torrance is a part of The Crew and his best friend. So how can Dontell tell his best friend that the woman he just brough back into his life is the woman he has been in love with for the past 3 years? Leon doesn't know. He can never know. I can never have her. But I can't stay away.
"She's been plaguing my mind for years, seeping into my thoughts where she didn't belong, fantasies she shouldn't be in, delusions that drove me crazy."
I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
💫 4.75 stars 💫
Mina Torrence promised herself she would do everything to protect her daughter. That's why she made her brother promise to stay away and never come back. So what happens when her brother shows up at her doorstep to take her to St. Louis? And what happens when her brother shows up with his best friend who she's been crushing on for the past 3 years? Let's just say the feelings could not be more mutual.
"I don’t know how long I'll last, baby. You tempt me, Mina Torrence. That can't happen."
This was my first Brittany Ann book and it was so much fun!! I legit described it as "Step Up" but instead of dancing street racing. And that is a very high compliment from me just saying! Mina and Dontell were the definition of TENSION and I was here for it! Mina being a badass trying to protect Cleo all the while Dontell trying not to get too close to her because he couldn't risk it. I mean COME ON!!
"You call me 'Donnie' when we're like this, got me?... Fuck everything I said, baby"
DNF- for now. I started this and quickly realized I need to read her previous Batter Up series- because it was way too confusing for me, the who’s who. So I’ll eventually read that, then come back to this one!
Apart from the romance there was a lot going on. At times I had to take a break just to try and process everything. Even still I was still able to follow along and understand everything. Nothing of the problem was really solved in this one but that just opened up the door for the next book so im not mad about it.
Give everything going on i felt like a big part of the book was about Leon and Mina rebuilding their relationship. They both went through a lot so I understood both sides but I did feel like Mina was being a little hard on her poor brother at the beginning 😭 im just glad they was able to repair their relationship.
I really admire Mina cause she will do anything to make sure her daughter is safe. Even if that means being miserable and lonely herself.
Now moving on to Mina and Dontell. These two had so much chemistry i don't understand how they managed to stay away from each other as long as they did. The way he was with Minas daughter was everything. I did want more of them. I really liked how Brittany wrote a book with so much action and stuff and still gave us a well developed relationship.
Brittany has done it yet again, another 5 star book!!!
Thank you so much to Brittany Ann for giving me the opportunity to be on her street team and sending me the ARC of Breakneck!
Firstly being back in this world with these characters was amazing!!! I think about the characters in this universe every single day, I love them so much!! And I am so so glad I get to love even more of Brittany’s characters!
Dontell and Mina’s chemistry was amazing from the start, I loved the will they won’t they, forbidden, brothers best friend aspect to their relationship, I was so excited for them to finally give in to their feelings for one another! And when they finally gave in OH MY GOD the spice was immaculate!
As usual with Brittany’s books this is more than just a romance, there is an in depth plot that keeps you hooked, keeps you guessing, shocks you and brings out every emotion known to man! I absolutely love her writing!
The found family in this universe is second to none. Seeing Mina being brought into this family was so heartwarming after everything she had gone through.
I already can’t wait for Clutch & Shift to come out so that I can see more of Leon and Amara’s relationship and understand what is going on there lol and to get deeper into the plot!
Highly highly recommend Breakneck by Brittany Ann - easy 5 stars from me!!!!

Talk about one hell of a ride from start to finish. This author weaved an action-packed, emotional, and hot as hell romance. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat while the angst-filled twists and turns made it impossible to put down or predict. Combing street racing with mafia danger created a plot that was exciting and especially entertaining. The world building and character growth were believable and realistic. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this read. This is my honest opinion, freely given.
Thank you Grey’s Promo and Brittany Ann for an ARC
I truthfully had no idea what to expect with this book. I certainly didn’t expect a whole slew of her other characters to be included in this book. So if Brittany is a new to you author (like she is for me) I would read her other books and then come to this one
This book started off slow. I was waiting for the world building to be built, which is strange as it’s in the same universe as her other books
Mina has trust issues. That’s putting it lightly. Her identity is her daughter, which is what I dislike about single mom romances. And usually when nothing goes Mina’s way she has a tendency of running. Which wasn’t very adult when it came to her brother or her love interest
I liked Dontell. He was described as being in pain. And he was. Emotional pain. His mom left, his dad passed away, and the woman he wants he can’t have out of respect for her brother (his best friend)
This book was jam packed. And I didn’t really get into the story until around the 40% mark (which is a bit too late IMO). That’s when things started to happen
If you like black romance, read this. If you like the Fast & Furious franchise, read this. If you like mafia, read this
*****4 Breakneck Stars***** So is great story but I felt a bit lost; I did not read the Batter up series I felt a bit lost and confused about all the other characters. But with all that this was a good read. Mina and Dontell story is my favorite troupe. Mina and her brother had a horrible past and while Mina got out of the life the where subjected too her brother didn’t and when the unthinkable happens Mina forces her brother away to keep her and her daughter safe. Fast forward years later her brother shows up with his best friend who she's been crushing on for the past 3 years? Dontell never forgot the day he seen and met his forever only to remember who her brother is his best friend, and she is off limit. But can Dontell hold back now that Mina is in his world?
I really enjoyed this book. Her writing has a way of sucking you in. Even if you have no clue what’s going on for awhile, you still want to keep reading to find out what happens! I couldn’t put it down. Dontell and Mina were the forbidden meant to be couple and watching them find their way to each other though all the bad stuff in their lives was beautiful. I also loved seeing our cowboys for a few scenes.

✨I definitely recommend this one. I would definitely suggest reading her Cowboy series AND the Baseball series. It all seems to connect in this one and I definitely want to read the baseball series before I read book 2. (Breakneck has a HEA for Dontell and Maya but it definitely leaves you excited for book 2!)
Happy publication day for Breakneck, book 1 in Author Brittany Ann's newest series Burnout 🥳 I'm lucky enough to be on her ARC team and got to enter the street racing world of Oasis ahead of time.
If you haven't read her first two series (Batter Up & the Langston brothers duet), I would highly recommend you do so before starting this book. Although each of her prior series can be read independantly (free on KU), this new series brings together her baseball, mafia and dark cowboy characters into a combined steamy street racing saga ❤
Getting to continue the story of characters we've grown to love in past books was a treat, but I also loved the new street racing family. I was hooked from the beginning and love her style of dark romance. I would highly recommend viewing the trigger warnings before reading as the Author gives detailed and realistic descriptions of difficult topics, but in an honest and intriguing way.
I can't wait to read all of your reviews in the coming weeks 😍
First, I'm not even a parent and the dedication got me.
From page one, I was hooked. Brittany puts you right in the middle of some action and it never lets up. You've probably seen posts describing it as having Fast & Furious vibes and that's sooo spot on. Street racing is one of those things I never thought that I'd be into in a book, but I'm always glad to find some other niche topics to follow in romance books. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series and see what is in store for everyone.
You don't have to have read any of Brittany's other books to enjoy this one, but if you have read them, you'll appreciate the Easter eggs within each one....and you'll have a greater understanding of what's going on. (That said, I am still not entirely caught up on her backlist, and I enjoyed it a lot. I will probably do a reread after I get caught up.)
Ahhhhh so happy being back with in the world of the BU characters! I am so happy I binged the series before reading this. Breakneck is the beginning of a new series, but it would be smart to read Brittany’s previous series Batter up to get the best experience IMO. This had some of of my favorite tropes: single parent, brothers bff. It seemed a little chaotic at times, I wasn’t sure why our cowboys needed to be there (love you boys anyways) lol overall enjoyed this one even tho it took me a little longer to finish.
Tropes: Street racing (Fast n Furious vibes) Found family Presence of BU characters and maybe a cowboy or two Single mom/independent woman Brother's best friend Forbidden attraction Forced Proximity Mafia/Bratva involvement Spice/Praise Kink
Omg I just started this this morning because I had originally forgotten that I received an ARC, & I finished it in a few hours. It was THAT good. The beginning was a little confusing at times, but her writing was so good and the characters were so well written that I just could not stop reading.
The story was so deep that I was hanging on every word. This is apparently connected to a couple of her other series so I will definitely be reading more of her works ASAP, because I would prefer to read the whole interconnected world before book 2 comes out. ♥️
While street racing isn’t exactly my vibe while reading. This was a wild ride. With cameos from previous books, mafia/Bravta, found family, street racing and a St. Louis setting (which was fun for me being only a few hours from there!) It made for an interesting storyline that kept me intrigued and curious to learn more about the world. Mina and Dontell were fun to read. This story isn’t over though the cliffhanger it ends with leaves you wanting more.
I’m not at all a car person so I feel like this wasn’t really for me. Lots of characters right off the bat, but all vaguely familiar from the previous Langston Brothers series. Plot moved along nicely and the spice was nice!
I probably wasn't the only one thinking of Fast & Furious while reading this book, right? Not complaining, really, I love the vibe.

Mina is a single mom to an adorable girl, Cleo. Unfortunately Mina doesn't hold many happy memories from her life, if any. She and her brother were raised amongst criminals and danger, all thanks to their father. After one terrible occurrance which put her daughter's life in danger, Mina forced her brother, Leon, to leave Houston and never come back. Fast forward five years and her brother is back in her life, forcing Mina to leave her life and move to St. Louis so he can protect her and his niece. To say Mina is mad is an understatement, but she also knows that her brother left her no choice and all that's left to do is what her brother tells her.
Dontell is Mina's brother's best friend. Sadly, he's also the man Mina felt instant attraction to when they met three years ago. But he's off-limits. Not only because he's Leon's best friend, but also because Mina's focus is her daughter and to make sure she stays safe. How hard can it be to keep their distance with each other?
I enjoyed meeting all the characters in this book. You can definitely feel how strong and united they are, a true sense of "family". They support each other and they are the definition of "friends are the family you choose".
Mina has major trust issues. She carries a lot of baggage and she's always on guard. She doesn't let anyone in easily; the relationship with her brother is damaged and it feels like no matter how much Leon tries to rebuild the connection, it just never works out.
I really liked Dontell. Despite him being in a lot of pain himself, I enjoyed getting to know the real him. He's funny when he needs to be, he's genuine and someone you can always rely on. Aaaaand the things this man says? And does? Yeah, I really, relly like him. 👀😏🔥
Given the ending, I'll just say I cannot wait for the next book in the series! And I cannot wait to meet other characters.
Thank you so much Brittany Ann for the ARC of this book! 💗
Oh this book was good! Giving all the Fast & Furious vibes!!
Mina and her daughter have been uprooted by her brother to keep her safe from danger she is unaware of (she thought it was taken care of years ago). Mina had tried to keep her daughter out of the street racing life and give her one that is full of light and not darkness. Her and her brother, Leon, haven’t had the best relationship since she almost lost her daughter.
Dontell is Leon’s best friend and he has been in love with Mina for years. He knows that he can’t cross that line, but then Mina was told she is supposed to live in Dontell’s house for extra security (oh the tension).
I loved how their love story unfolded, and how they go through the insecurities that they have.
Breakneck is a Spicy Fast & the Furious style Street Racing romance. Mina & her daughter Cleo are dragged back into this underworld by Mina’s Brother, Leon, for protection. A world Mina was desperate to put behind her now that she is a mother. For good reason too, which we find out early on in the book. But there is more to the story. Leons best friend, Dontell, has loved Mina since he laid eyes on her. With her in his home, under his protection, temptation is going to be hard to resist. This is the first book in the burnout series and I am very excited for more from this world. This was fast paced & kept me hooked. Donnie & his filthy mouth. His love for Mina & her daughter. Her sass. The family vibe. The danger. I loved it all. I especially loved Brittany’s dedication too - “To the moms who've lost themselves deep in motherhood. It's okay. Take your time digging yourself out, you'll learn to love yourself again. I promise.” I felt this. And Minas character was amazing. Her & her daughter were everything the other needed but Donnie opened her eyes, gave her opportunities and her growth was beautiful.
The spice definitely gave this review an extra star ⭐ There was just a lot unfinished and disjointed in this book for me… based in a street racing world but the descriptions of the cars were just too vague for my liking (there were a few good executions of this throughout, but mostly the words “Audi” or “Porsche” were as good as it got). I like the idea, but not a fan of this execution unfortunately
I would give this book more stars but it needs another proofread or two. While the storyline is good, there were too many errors that I found distracting. A little more research could have been done with the cars as well, especially if this is based around car culture and street racing. I definitely get the Fast and Furious vibes. I am intrigued enough to finish the series eventually.
Breakneck by Brittany Ann, is the first book in The Burnout Series, here we will meet Mina Torrance, she is the mother of a little girl, when one of her biggest fears comes true, her brother Leon gives her peace back, but she doesn't wants to have anything to do with the path of darkness that her brother decided to follow, they have grown up among criminals, but she doesn't want to have anything to do with that life, so she tells her brother that because of the danger of that life he decided and from which she has worked very hard to stay away, they should stop being in each other's lives, so either he or she leaves Houston, her brother decides to leave, promising not to return. Only that his brother appears five years later at the door of their house because a danger lurks around them and they must go with him to stay safe. Now in St Louis Mina, with her daughter, finds herself back in the life she wanted to leave so much. Her brother founded a street racing empire with his best friends and that is where they must remain until the threat is eliminated. The situation is made more difficult by one of her brother's best friends, whom she met by chance three years ago, and to whom she feels attracted, but she is not willing to put her heart and that of her daughter at risk for a man she shouldn't want like Dontell. Dontell Vance Michealson, is this guy whose life is racing and Oasis, what he considers his family, but when he saw Mina for the first time he was completely captivated, she is the sister of his best friend, who along with his daughter they must protect and although he disguises everything under that mask of jokes and good humor, he cannot deny that Mina and Cleo are everything that was missing from his life. But it won't be easy for this pair. Mina is looking to find herself again after having been just a mother for so long and Don will try to fight against what he feels but that will be a fight he won't be able to win, all this in the middle of a hidden enemy. This story keeps you trapped, with which you will experience a range of emotions, angst, humor, unexpected turns, family, friendship, passion and love. An addictive story and we are just starting the Series, I already want to see what will happen. Highly recommended! *Thanks to Brittany Ann and Grey's Promotion for my ARC. I voluntarily leave my honest review*
Altamente Recomendada! *Gracias a Brittany Ann y a Grey's Promotion por mi ARC. Dejo voluntariamente mi reseña honesta*
High speed, hot erotic scenes, a main character ready to do anything for the main heroine and her daughter, and a lot of tangled family relationships await you in "Breakneck" – book first of the “Burn out” series. But let me start with the basics.
The writing is not bad - it is quick to read, understandable, does not burden, it is not extremely flat, I can even say that the author has tried to understand the characters and the story that unfolds in front of the readers and she succeeded. But it's a big mish-mash. As someone who had never read any of her previous books, it was a big shock for me that she has put all of the characters from her previous books and series inside this one and I fought hard to remember everyone's names, relationships, love partners and background. And as much as these characters were only secondary, they are rooted deep enough in this very new story in this very new series that you have to understand all the things above, otherwise you will constantly wonder what is going on. Most of the characters in question are presented at once, and the actions that take place in this book are directly related to the plots of the previous ones, which also did not help my confusion and shock. BUT it is important to note that I am interested enough to read each of their stories and by the end of the book I was able to distinguish them.
✨"Big family, I see," Denver noted quietly, looking around. We looked like a shit show, but a loving one.✨
The beginning seemed strange to me - it became clear to me what was happening, at the same time my confusion grew and my attention was divided between the different things I was trying to remember, because of the many mentions of the stories of the other characters. At some point, I began to feel like the author was trying too hard to create a big drama between the characters so that it caught the interest of the readers, which especially for me, failed to work. Her desire seemed too obvious, the dialogues and most of the scenes at first seemed not natural, the main character was too much of a drama queen and my interest was not grabbed at all - I was not bored either, rather I didn't care about Mina and Dontell as a couple and about the story as a whole. Although there are a few subplots that are great, well-developed ideas, I felt like the action was dragging on a lot. The characters themselves from time to time took actions that were very dubious and showed that they would rather move on the plot than the plot moving on them, which I do not particularly like.
And here I come to the good part.
Somewhere in the middle, the story began to become more and more interesting to me, until at some point I realized how much I had fallen for it and how much I wanted to read it and thought about it. For sure, the beginning was difficult, but I think that now that I sit down to read the author's previous books, I will be much more familiar with the future version of the characters and I will enjoy them much more.
✨I looked over at Donnie first, tears flowing down my cheeks. His eyes were wild, his face hard. When I looked over at my brother, he was already staring at me. Both were ready to burn the world for me. For Cleo. For Oasis. The Bratva just made a very big mistake.✨
The truth is, I hooked on the book from the moment the relationship between Dontell and Mina finally began. Both are strong characters and an even stronger couple that I can't wait to meet again in the next book. They are very well built, their characters have depth and over the course of the plot, the characters are upgraded, becoming better.
The erotic scenes between them are so FREAKING HOT! , which gives bonus points to "Breakneck" - it seems that the author knew what she was doing with them and especially with the dirty talk during them. They definitely made my legs yield.
The climax is good, but it is too fast, which did not allow me to feel enough tension through it and I missed that.
I really liked that the ending is open and that in fact one of the subplots, which is just as main as the relationship between the main characters and is actually the reason for the beginning of their love story, continues in the next book and will obviously spread throughout the series. This is a great approach, much better than if everything was rushed to end in this book and in the next to have something completely different as the main goal. ~~~ Rating: 4 (3.5)/5⭐
✨*This book was provided to me by Grey's Promo for my honest opinion.✨
Breakneck by @authorbrittanyann_ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶 - dual pov - brothers best friend - traumatic childhoods - good girl/good boy - street racing - mafia - no third act breakup - brothers best friend
Fast & the Furious meets the mafia💥
Holy chit. This book.
Mina and Dontell are absolute magnetic magic.
The way the slight slow burn went from burning to absolutely imploding was 🥵🤯
Not gonna lie, Cleo is my favorite character and her and Aiden make me happy.
Now am I not only waiting for the next book but I have a huge feeling I REALLY need to go read The Batter Up series.
If I wasn't already obsessed with this author, I definitely would be now.
Oh. My. God. This? This is how you write a book. This is how you come up with a story. I never thought I could have another book boyfriend until this I read book. Dontell is the ultimate book boyfriend. And Mina??? 1 just wanna hug her and go get Pedicures. Hey Google, how do I insert myself into a fictional universe???
In the aftermath of her daughter's kidnapping, Mina is fed up. She's fed up with the danger her brother Leon's life of street racing has brought her. He vows to leave them alone but one day he shows up for their protection. In tow is Dontell, his best friend and right hand man who has been in love with Mina since the first time he saw her. Under their protection Mina is forced to face her past while also learning to have hope for her future.
Woooo what a doozy. This book had me on the edge of the seat. At first, I really did not like Mina. She was absolutely rude to everyone as her defense mechanism. Which I get after everything she's been through. I had a sigh of relief when she began having a better connection with some of the side characters and she finally began to relax a little. Her and Dontell's relationship was unconditional. He was exactly what she needed and vice versa. There was a small part that had be looking over my shoulder and gave be the willies lol. Just like with the Langston Brothers Duet, I'm hoping this will flow into book 2 seamlessly. If you haven't read the Batter Up series by Brittany Ann, give it a gander first because there is major character cross overs!
I liked Mina and Dontell's story! There's still more to come, many parts unresolved, and I look forward to reading the next one.
We know the characters from the author's previous series, but here we learnt about Leon's conflict with his sister, and their pasts, and Dontell's history too.
Dontell was a sweet guy! Over-protective for sure, but he fell hard for Mina. She had trust issues, but ultimately realised she couldn't run forever.
I liked seeing everyone from the other books, it's fun when they all come together.
A little to slow start, but this was an enjoyable read.
OMG, I'M DECEASED, LIKE FOREVER GONE, BRITTANY YOU KILLED IT AS ALWAYS.
This is my 3rd book by Brittany. and as expected she did not disappoint, this was an amazing book with all the characters from her previous books making an appearance whether they're side characters or just seeing them in a small scene, LOVED seeing the Langston brothers again and that little surprise you dropped about a certain someone being pregs, and as always when it came to starting a Brittany book, I was scared af, because I knew that this book will break and make my heart a hundred times and make me feel every emotion on the face of the earth.
I loved how there was no unnecessary drama when it came to Mina and Dontell's relationship, THE ANGST RUINED ME, I cried 3 times during this whole book, and IT ENDED IN A CLIFFY *crying* *sobbing* *throwing up*.
Mina is such a strong badass woman and I admire her SO SO MUCH this woman deserves the world and I know that Dontell will give it to her without a second thought, he would scorch the heart for her if it meant putting a smile on her face and her as a mother is a very soft, very comfy thing, I wish we had more moments between her and Cleo, though we'll definitely see them in future books.
Dontell, dear god this man is WOW, I'm simply deceased, he's so *AHHHH*, I can't even describe him, he's everything and I'm so happy they found each other and fought for each other, it's amazing how love makes people stronger and weaker at the same time.
BRITTANY, I DO NOT FORGIVE YOU FOR THAT CLIFFY 😭😭😭, IT WAS PAINFUL AND WILL BE UNTIL THE NEXT BOOK 😭. can't wait for the next two books, especially Cain's, I want to learn so much more about him.
FOREVER GRATEFUL TO BE ON BRITTANY'S ARC TEAM. THANK YOU.
What a great start to a brand new series! I didn’t know what to expect when I signed up for this ARC but the street racing setting was enough to pique my interest. If you love Fast & Furious vibes, the single mom trope, brother’s best friend, found family and forced proximity then this is the book for you. Mina was such a strong female main character. I could relate to her fears and struggles a lot. Everything she did she did with her child’s best interest at heart. Dontell was her perfect match. Sweet and caring, as well as fiercely protective when it came to his girls, he was exactly what Mina needed to let go of the past and take charge of her future. I really enjoyed this new underground world Brittany has created and am looking forward to the rest of the series. I do want to mention that this series is a spin off and would be best enjoyed having first read her Batter Up series, as well as her Langston Brother’s duet to get the full experience. I only read Breathe for Me prior to diving into this one and did feel a little overwhelmed and slightly lost when all the supporting characters were introduced. Having said that, I did eventually get into the swing of things and it only made me want to go back and start at the beginning more. Overall this was a well-rounded read that was filled with romance, big emotions, friendship, suspense and some deliciously steamy scenes that had me fanning myself. Highly recommend.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow!! Brittany is a new to me author and after reading this book I cannot wait to dive into all of her other books!! It’s got mystery, a whole found family, street racing, dark mafia throughout it all and a shimmering brother’s best friend romance that builds up impeccably! And that ending?!? Have no fear this book is an HEA, but I have so many questions already for book 2!!
Right from the prologue this book gave me whiplash feeling every single thing and just completely captured me into this story! From there it kept me in a chokehold to see what happens with Mina and her little daughter Cleo. Then when her brother’s best friend, Dontell shows up again in her life after a brief meeting…boy was there all the sexual tension! I completely devoured every second of watching these two hold back their forbidden feelings. And WOW, once they have that “F it” moment and really give in…Brittany totally shocked me with that spice🥵 Overall, this book was packed with everything from shocking twists and turns, adrenaline filled street racing, and a beautiful romance between two people finding their way together in this dark world!
This book does have a lot of world building with a cast full of characters that come into play. I was a little lost at first as I haven’t met any of them before having not read her other books BUT keep reading because it just gets better and better! All the little details about each character actually just made me more intrigued and wanting to dive into them! I mean, hello Dean!! This is a standalone but I do highly suggest reading the Batter Up series and the Langston Brother’s duet first to enjoy each character even more!
