Rate this book
When Dee arrives on the beautiful Île de Ré, she's hoping to escape the secret that's been suffocating her for years. And what better way to forget than a lavish holiday with her boyfriend and a family wedding to celebrate?

Meanwhile, bride-to-be Willa is meant to be basking in a pre-wedding glow. After all, her fiancé's whole family have gathered on the island to celebrate her marriage to their handsome, wealthy son. But Willa isn't telling the whole truth - and she can't wait for this sham to be over.

By the end of the holiday no one's secret will be safe.
And two people will be dead.

An addictive, edge-of-your-seat thriller that asks what secrets can do when they fall into hands determined to even the scales. Perfect for fans of TM Logan, CL Taylor and Claire Douglas.

*Complicated*

At the beginning of this book, I wasn’t sure if it had a direction. However, I was captivated by the setting, which was set on the picturesque island of Île de Ré in France.

It felt like we were being introduced to characters, and initially, it was challenging to keep up.

There were several secrets, and one person was not who they appeared to be.

When I reached almost the halfway point, it began to make sense. I can’t say I warmed up to any of the characters until the plot started to coalesce. It transformed into a vigilante/revenge quest. The underlying theme was good, but the execution ended up hurting some of the characters.

This book highlighted how wealthy parents can go to extreme lengths to conceal their children’s wrongdoings, leading to a series of despicable actions. These actions resulted in tragic consequences, including multiple deaths including suicide. While I eagerly anticipated finishing the book, I found it to be an unsatisfying read. The first part felt excessively drawn out, while the latter part felt rushed and I needed a bit more. I am probably an outlier

The beginning of this story was kinda hard for me. The pace was slow and things only started to make sense about halfway through.

The characters were also on the unlikeable side. Even Dee. The characters I liked the most was Madhu.

So, overall it isn´t a bad story, there were things I liked. The setting, for instance, sounded quite good. But it wasn't what I'd call a really satisfying read, so it's 3,5 stars for me.

I nearly stopped reading this, at the start I disliked all the characters and I didn't really like what I thought I was going to be reading. However, I was very wrong and I am very glad I continued reading because this book just got better and better.

‘Lucky Girls’ by Liv Webbe is set on a gorgeous French island, in an enviable holiday home, but within the first few chapters it becomes clear that there’s no reason to be jealous of Dee and Willa - the two main characters and narrators of this captivating novel. Dee, who is not used to a life of luxury, is visiting her boyfriend Aaron’s family and has brought along her best friend Madhu for moral support - however, Dee is holding some secrets close to her chest and looking for an escape. Imposing and aloof Willa is about to marry Aaron’s brother Lukas, but Willa isn’t even her real name. There are many intriguing mysteries to unravel…

I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the idyllic setting which contrasted so well with the darkness of the tale. I also enjoyed finding out more about ‘Willa’ and the strange life she had chosen for herself throughout the book - the slow burn release of information definitely kept me gripped! The ending was incredibly tense and shocking.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find either character likeable or relatable - perhaps because they kept so much of themselves hidden for most of the novel - and a few aspects of the story were quite confusing until everything came together. Despite not liking ‘Willa’, I could understand her motivations and I will definitely thinking about this book for a while.

All in all, it was a 3.5 star (rounded up!) read for me - recommended for fans of Catherine Cooper’s destination thrillers or Katy Brent’s feminist adventures.

So excited to have discovered this author! 'Lucky Girls' is the epitome of unputdownable!

Dee is vacationing with her boyfriend Aaron. Aaron comes from a wealthy family and they are retreating to the family's second home on a French Island with Aaron's family to celebrate the impending marriage of Aaron's brother, Lucas, to the enigmatic Willa. Dee's longstanding best friend comes along for the ride.

Willa at once recognises Dee from 10 years previously, although it is instantly apparent this recognition is not reciprocated. Willa is openly rude to Dee, but chinks in her armour appear that confuse and intrigue Dee. To the reader it is very clear that Willa is not all she seems and a deeper agenda is at play. To avoid spoilers I will not hint at what that agenda might be, but I will just say it is so unusual that I am in awe of the mind that conjured up this story. I was utterly gripped from the get-go and held in its rapture throughout!!

5 stars is nowhere near enough!!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy of this outstanding and original novel.

Lucky Girls is a dark, twisty holiday thriller that grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go. What begins as a getaway — a chance for the main character Dee to escape guilt and start afresh on a beautiful island — quickly spirals into something sinister and dangerous.

I loved the way secrets, lies and past mistakes slowly peel away as the story progresses. The tension builds expertly; as the group gathers for a family wedding, you can sense the fragility of trust and how close things are to falling apart.

The characters’ relationships feel complicated and real — as layers of deception are revealed, loyalties shift and you’re left questioning who you can trust. The novel doesn’t shy away from emotional weight, and it balances glamour and dread well.

At the same time, some elements felt a bit over the top. A few twisty turns are so dramatic they border on melodrama — but for a thriller of this kind, that just added to the roller‑coaster vibe.

Overall: a gripping, unsettling read that’s perfect for fans of psychological thrillers and stories where vacation turns to nightmare. A page‑turner that keeps you guessing until the end.

Willa is the centre of attention, as the bride-to-be in a lavish wedding for which her fiance's entire clan has gathered to celebrate his marriage. So why isn't she happier?

Dee has come to attend the wedding with her boyfriend, and to enjoy their time on this beautiful island as a respite from the pressures that are dragging her down. So what's eating her?

Willa and Dee might both be considered lucky to be where they are, but their situations are different. What they *do* you have in common is that they are both harbouring secrets that could be life-changing if anyone found out.

Except that, unfortunately for those gathered for this island wedding, someone is about to demonstrate just *how* dangerous certain secrets can be...

This was an easy and entertaining read, with a good helping of suspense stirred in.

“This summer’s most gripping holiday thriller - revenge, twists and hidden secrets”.

This book had me hooked. I enjoyed the dual POV of Dee and Willa, it gave a whole new element to the book and ensured we knew how both really thought and felt.

I wasn’t expecting the twist of who the “bad guy” was and I definitely think Liv did amazing with misleading the reader. I swear I was rooting for the wrong people the whole way through.

It was interesting to find out why Willa was the way she was and everything that led up to it. I really enjoyed the link between Dee and her (even if it was heartbreaking).

With twists and turns throughout, this is one holiday thriller you’ll want to add to your TBR and a great addition to your poolside reading.

Thank you so much @liv_webbe and @headlinebooks for sending me this brilliant book and goodies to read and review !! #luckygirls 🩵

Dee arrives on a French island with her boyfriend to celebrate a family wedding. She is looking forward to being able to escape a secret she’s been hiding. Bride to be Willa is also hiding a secret. Soon it seems no one will be safe.

I enjoy books set in luxury locations and the atmospheric setting was written well in this one. I especially enjoy those focused on revenge while slowly trying to work out character’s secrets and this fit the bill nicely. Overall it is an enjoyable read, however I wasn’t fully invested in the characters and storyline. I found the pacing a little on the slow side and the book slightly dragged out. Saying that, this is a compelling mystery drama and great for an easy holiday read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.

Compulsive reading that had me completely hooked.

In parts incredibly hard to read just due to the subject matter that could be triggering for some, it really is a wonderful book.

And the tricky bits open up a conversation that needs to be had and highlighted - and its from that we get Willa's motivations and Dee's secret.

Two incredibly different leading ladies, each hiding many things, and each dating brothers of the same family.

And its for that reason they are all on the Ile De Re this summer and where not everyone we meet will live.

The blurb mentions two deaths and as the book progressed my guesses as to who would die and how, were harder and harder to make.

Really was unpredictable for me, and I was totally and utterly gripped.

Thank you to Headline and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Lucky Girls is a fantastic debut from Liv Webbe which will leave you eager to read her next novel! The mystery is setup well and has you guessing from the start, and as more information comes to light you'll be revisiting your perceptions of all the characters. All of the characters are fleshed out with their own motivations which all complement the story. The later half of the novel really grabs you and I finished the last 2/3 in one go!

Thanks to Headline & Netgalley for the arc.

What a wild ride! This book kept me guessing and had me hooked all the way through - very much a twisty thriller, very much a page turner and one that will have you questioning your theories the whole way through.

Told from dual POV's, Willa is staying with her fiancé Lucas's family on Île de Ré ahead of their upcoming nuptials, but all is not as happy & exciting for this couple as it should be. Dee meanwhile, has come to stay for the pre-wedding family gathering with her boyfriend Aaron, (Lucas's brother) and her best friend Madhu. The atmosphere is immediately frosty and we soon discover they are both hiding things from their past which could have serious repercussions on their futures...but they're also not the only ones who have secrets from the past that will come to light and have serious consequences on this trip.

Huge thanks to @headlinebooks for sending me a copy of this book to read and review - this is out now, what a great debut @liv_webbe, what a fantastic read this was.

Secrets, revenge, a vigilante, overbearing snobbish parents and an island in France, what more could you possibly ask for.

This is a well written novel that wasa good quick read. It wasn't a thriller I don't think, but it had good suspense and you do want to find out what is going on.

I was sent this ARC from netgalley in return for an honest review.

Read this book on a whim, knew nothing about the author and I thought it was really good! I loved her writing style, it was clever, the dialogue was excellent and I liked the chapter structure. Sure, some of it was a bit cliche and far fetched at times, but this is the perfect summer quick read - with plenty of twists and turns and excellent characters.

Not a bad book overall. Maybe could've been a bit shorter. Didn't really like where the messages/texts plot ended up and felt this whole storyline could've been left out.
