I absolutely loved this story! I have read a lot of Tyler Anne Snell’s books and have loved all of them but this one might be my new favorite. A perfect start to pride month with a MM couple with just the right amount of flirty fun between them coupled with a mystery that actually took me off guard with how it all shook out. I can not recommend this book enough. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

REVIEW OF WHAT LITTLE I LISTENED TO: MAY 22, 2024
Narrator: Michael Dean

Unknown author to me.

I wasn't sure whether this was an MM romance or not as there were no reviews anywhere. It sounded like an MM from the blurb but I wanted to be sure. In the end I took a chance on it because when I checked Audible it was listed under LGBT.

Unfortunately I couldn't get into the story. It just didn't pull me in despite being a Romantic Suspense. I even had a hard time figuring out why. Was it the writing or the narrator (Michael Dean is not one of my favs)? In the end I gave up, preferring to go back to Mary Calmes A Matter of Time which I am currently relistening to.

As an avid Intrigue reader, I was so excited to grab the first M/M Intrigue! I dove in the moment it was downloaded, knowing the story would be excellent since Ms. Snell is a tried-and-true Intrigue writer. I was excited about the bodyguard trope on top of a bit of cybersecurity, and Ms. Snell did not disappoint.

Aiden is in Willow Creek as a start-up new business but is being plagued by the job he'd left behind. Mack Atwood is a life long Willow Creek resident, even though he spends more time away from the town than in it now. His memories of his hometown are harsh, and no one understands what he went through. They also don't believe his special skill until they need him to do them a favor.

Back in Willow Creek after finishing his latest bodyguard assignment, Mack's twin brother and sister drag him to a party in town where he connects with a man he's never met before. And by connect, I mean saving his life at the last moment. Unsure of what's going on, but knowing Aiden is in danger, Mack realizes his new assignment is right in Willow Creek and his name is Aiden Riggs. Nothing is more apparent than when they're rolling down a mountainside together trying to escape someone who wants Aiden dead.

The personalities and romance between Aiden and Mack were delicious in the most hilariously innocent of ways. Aiden is all talk and giggles, while Mack is the strong, silent type who prefers the air of mystery about him, much to Aiden's dismay. What surprised Mack the most was how he didn't mind Aiden's chatter. What surprised him more was his ability to open up to him about his past and how it affected his entire life.

My favorite lines were, "I have a rule about the heart. If people say your love doesn't have a place in this world, the most fun thing you can do is prove them wrong..." and "Like who you like. Love you love. Don't fight it." I'm so glad Mack took that advice to heart when it came to Aiden. While he may have been the strong, silent type, he learned that opposites attract, and opening up to the right person can help you heal your soul a little bit every day. I loved the intimacy between them and not in the bedroom kind of way (there was one bedroom scene that was tastefully done and faded to black) but in the heart kind of way. Aiden and Mack could speak to each other without words because, despite their opposite personalities, their hearts were aligned.

This is an intrigue not to miss for well-written characters, a mystery full of twists and turns that you won't see coming until the very last scene, and a love that, while some people say doesn't have a place in this world, Aiden and Mack proved them wrong by waving at the haters from their own little piece of paradise. I've already gifted this book to several people and will continue to because love wins. Kudos, Ms. Snell, for giving us these wonderful characters in a genre of romance that is often overlooked by those who love LGBTQAI+ stories. I sure hope there's more to come for Mack and Aiden, but I'm also dying to see Goldie and Finn find their forever love!

If I could give this 4.5 stars I would. I bought this in print and Kindle format and I plan to buy more print copies. I finished this book in less than half a day. Pretty typical for me.

Plot twist: 5/5 - I did not see that one coming! Consistent with everything I’ve read by this author. The best part of the book. I can tell that it was very well thought out.
Character development: 4.5/5 - I would’ve liked a little more about Aiden’s background, but I will allow that it might have existed at one time but was edited out. I don’t know.
Spice: 1/5 - I know it’s Harlequin, but honestly, I expected at least a little more. I don’t know if that was the author’s choice or the publisher’s/editor’s.

I will freely admit that Kelly Fox and Sloane Kennedy set the bar on the bodyguard trope waaay up there and have definitely ruined me for almost everyone else. That said, if this author writes more m/m, I’ll buy and read them. I’ve been excited for this book since she announced it on her social media last year. I know how characters live in your head for years and develop their own stories.

Anyone that says that they didn’t realize it was m/m obviously didn’t read the description. And seriously, I’ve read more spice and romantic tension in some YA books. This is very, very tame compared to 98 percent of what’s out there. Get over it.

FIVE FLIPPING STARS!

Tropes: Bodyguard, Grumpy/Sunshine

Intrigue's first M/M romance was an absolute treat.

I was completely and utterly charmed and enthralled by this book. I'm grinning about it while typing this up.

Bodyguard Mack Atwood has returned to his small town of Willow Creek, haunted by a childhood tragedy that occurred there ages ago. On his first day, he's asked to identify the body of a murder victim. What a glorious return! Later that same day, he runs into Aiden Riggs, a computer programmer who used to work at the same company as that dead guy from earlier. And nefarious people keep trying to snatch him. What is Mack to do but protect Aiden himself and find out answers? Well, that and fall in love, of course.

Mack and Aiden's banter was top-notch. Mack is a taciturn grump and his turn to being very into Aiden is so fun to watch. The Atwood siblings were also fantastic and hilarious, really bringing a warm, familial balance to the action sequences and multiple injuries. These guys get Banged Up in this, not that I was complaining. I love an action story with some guts.

This is pretty tame on the steam, and is a slow burn. But I honestly had no issue with that. I was just along for the ride with these two dudes narrowly escaping death, bantering, and falling for each other. Which is honestly all I need.

Dangerous Recall delivers a gripping blend of high stakes suspense and simmering slow burn chemistry that keeps you locked in from the first chapter. Mack Atwood is the kind of protector you can’t help rooting for unyielding, disciplined, and quietly wounded in ways he’d die before admitting. Aiden Riggs, with his sharp mind and vulnerable edges, is the perfect counterbalance: a quick witted tech genius who turns out to be far braver than anyone expects.
What really stands out is the emotional gravity beneath the danger. Every twist feels personal because it is their shared past creeps into the narrative like a ghost, binding them together long before either man is ready to admit it. The story pulses with tension, desire, and the weight of unresolved history.
Pacing? Tight. Stakes? Escalating. Chemistry? Off the charts.
If you love M/M romantic suspense where heart and danger collide in equal force, Dangerous Recall absolutely delivers.

This is a slightly different bodyguard story in that the bodyguard was hired on the fly after already being on the run with the other MC. The romance felt like it was rather out of the blue even though they didn’t declare anything until three fourths of the way through. I liked the characters well enough and the family was nice. But there wasn’t any diversity. The set up was pretty good. I actually was surprised by the twist at the end. But the book just didn’t do anything for me. It didn’t help that the baddie gave the long soliloquy before everything went down. There were even some hospital scenes but, sigh, no. Maybe it was because the men kept passing out with little explanation.

Still, I’d read something else by this author. The book was good enough to give the writer a second chance.

The narrator, Michael Dean was fine.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved the way the characters blended seamlessly together and drew me in. Goldie and Finn left me wanting to know so much more about them. And Mack and Aiden... I love this couple!! Individually they were great characters, but together they were perfect. I really enjoyed their flirty banter and was rooting for them from the beginning. These fun, quirky, and stubborn personalities made this a fun read. I would love to read more stories with these characters. The mystery drew me in and had me intrigued throughout the entire book. What a great entry for the first MM Intrigue book. I definitely recommend reading this if you are a fan of suspenseful mysterious and entertaining characters.

I bought this book because of the cover. I really wanted to like this book but it didn’t do anything to interest me. The cover made it look like it was going to be an awesome mystery, kind of dark but it wasn’t. It was also a M/M gay romance but there wasn’t any romance in the book and there wasn’t really any action in the story. I was quite let down by this book. There wasn’t a bit of romance or spice. I didn’t find anything I liked in this story.

I was quite excited to have a Harlequin Intrigue center on a relationship between two men. The story was definitely top notch with lots of twists and unexpected surprises. I was shocked to be so close to the end and still learning about new twists. I would have liked the romance to have more space in the book. I do wish the author would write a book each for Goldie, Finn and Ray (and thereby also give us an epilogue to Mack and Aiden’s story.

Audiobook on Scribd. Good narration and enjoyable characters. I enjoyed the interplay between Mack (smouldering tough guy) and Aiden (nerdy genius with a past). The mix of character development and action kept the book moving along. The mystery was interesting though the "who done it" revelation felt out of left field. I would happily read another book by this author.

I don’t know why I’m giving this four stars tbh. I think it’s just because I like it better than the other books I’ve read recently. Making us wait 200 pages til they kissed was so annoying. Also we get no real exploration of what their life is like after. Now I’m starting to think this is a three star book haha.

Sorry but I was not aware this was a certain type of story. I am not interested in reading that genre and almost stopped reading when it became apparent. I realize others are ok with this type of book. I just wish it would have been evident before I bought the book.

This is a slow burn with a huge payoff in the end. The suspense drives the story with twists and turns I did not expect. It will keep you reading long into the night to find out what happens!

This was a very intriguing storyline. I loved the interactions between characters and especially the two main characters. I am kinda hoping that some of the other characters get their own books. Such a great author.

I had a doctor’s appointment but nothing to read. I just grabbed this off the shelf. It was not really my cup of tea. I really liked the family bond.

Honestly, I don't even know why I stopped reading this book, but the fact that I never went back to it months later has to mean something.
