Strange things happen after Davis buys an antique book that once belonged to infamous serial killer Peter McFadden. Shortly after, Davis wakes up covered in blood, with no memory of the previous. He learns that someone close to him has been murdered, and he’s afraid he is the murderer.
This is a short, spooky and engaging read! The writing is phenomenal and the characters are very well done. There’s murder, mystery, and paranormal elements! I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this collection!
thank you Michelle Godard-Richer for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Peter McFadden is a serial killer but he’s not ready to put murdering to rest with his death. His spirit is in his favorite vintage book. Davis comes across and purchases the book and things spiral out of control from there. This was a very suspenseful, quick read. The ending seemed rushed, but it did not disappoint. A perfect book to read when it comes out on Friday the 13th.
I enjoyed this novella. I think it's often hard to implement a good twist in such a short book but the author succeeded. I definitely didn't see it coming.
Received this ARC from the author (thank you so much!!). I loved how fast paced this story was from the very beginning. The writing and story line kept me intrigued. I enjoyed the premise of the book. My reason for 4 stars is because the ending felt rushed and the writing seemed to not be up to par with the rest of the story. Overall, I enjoyed this short read and am now wanting to read all your other books!
This was a creepy short story! In just about 60 pages, the author delivers a great story with twists I did not see coming. The tension was palpable, leading to this book being a real page turner. It has elements of a haunting, murder mystery, cursed objects, and a psychological thriller.
This would be a great read for fans of Gothic by Philip Fracassi or Forsaken by Andrew Van Wey. I would recommend this book and give it a 4.25⭐️ rating!
Great, spooky, fun to read. I’ve read this author before; she always provides believable characters, well-thought-out settings, and descriptions. Hang on tight and be careful what you read.
This is a fast paced novella. Strange, things start to happen after Davis buys an antique book that once belong to a serial killer named Peter McFadden, who also is the estranged father of his girlfriend.
This is a short, creepy read with ghosts, murder, and mystery. It Even has twists and turns to keep you sucked in
With Halloween coming up, I was looking forward to reading this spooky book. This definitely got me in to "scary season mood".
There weren't many characters but it didn't need more than it had. They were all interesting and I found myself unsure whether or not to trust any of them.
The story itself was creepy and definitely has me looking at my books a bit suspiciously, especially my older books!
This story was outstanding. Excellent writing. A paranormal suspense/thriller with so many twists, and that ending ... what just happened? If you like books with ghost, possessions, and serial killers, this is definitely a book you will want to read. Did I mention a huge twist!!!
Davis buys a book from the collection of a recently deceased serial killer, that also happened to be his girlfriend's estranged father. Almost immediately, strange things begin to occur to Davis. After a murder is committed, he begins to fear he may have done it.
This is a short, spooky read that doesn't fail to deliver. There's murder, the paranormal, a creepy raven, and a mystery. Davis is a likeable character. The story is short and the cast of characters is limited, but very well done. I look forward to reading the rest of the Friday the 13th stories as they are published.
Oh, this was good. A quick little haunting with a mad surprise I did NOT see coming. I kiiiiiiind of wish there was a little more at the end, but honestly it was perfect as is.
An evil spirit lives within the pages of an old book begging to be released. Spine Chilling is a scary little horror story which scared the crap out of me! Talk about perfect reading for the spooky season. The narration is eerie with plenty of foreboding. The characters are relatable and propel the plot. The writing is akin to horror greats like King.
Let’s start with the characters. These are simply people like you and me dealing with paranormal events and possession. I connected with Davis on so many levels. He’s a booklover like me but gets more than he bargained for by bringing home a first edition book. How he handles what’s to come gave me shivers.
The descriptive narration is flawless. Every scene, every thought, every creepy thing that took place is poignantly described. It’s through the intricate details that lead to the scare factor. Michelle Godard-Richer uses her pen as a weapon to create one of the scariest horror stories I’ve ever read.
The writing of this tale is expertly penned. It’s classic horror with an interesting twist. Well written and a joy to read for horror readers.
Spine Chilling started out really well! Lucy and Esme's father has recently passed, and they are cleaning out his house when they make a horrifying discovery. Fast forward a few months, and Esme's boyfriend, Davis, secretly buys a book from her father's collection. Turns out her father isn't as gone as everyone believes...
Things kind of take a turn here. The book is clearly going in a certain direction, a direction that makes perfect sense, but then it suddenly takes a right turn completely away from that. The storyline didn't make much sense from there, and it really took me out of the story.
This really wasn't a bad story overall. A bit quick for my taste, but it was a fun read. That surprise reveal, though, just completely dropped this for me.
It’s great when a story fulfills its promise, and this story does just that! “Spine Chilling” is for everyone who has bought a used book and wondered who the previous owner was, or who has collected books. Davis Shetland purchases a collectible book that was previously owned by a murderer. The man’s deadly spirit is conveyed into Shetland through the book. Things start to escalate: Shetland wakes with blood all over himself and yet refuses to acknowledge the source of these impulses because has always wanted this book. It’s a delectable read for horror fans and bibliophiles. So, develop some backbone and read it already! You’ll shiver with delight!
I liked the story and there was a great plot twist. I just wish there would have been more depth. I am assuming it was light because of the length, one in a series of short stories. I would love to see this fleshed out to a full story. If your looking for a quick read that throws you for a loop at the end this will do it. This was the first time I have read a book by this author and I would read more by her.
I received a copy of this story as an ARC from the author.
The perfect title for this spine-chilling thriller!
When Davis buys a rare, expensive antique book, horrific things begin to happen. When he awakens covered in blood, he fears he has murdered his girlfriend's sister.
With elements of the paranormal, murder, plot twists, and suspense, this Friday the 13th short story is perfect for readers who love horror and thrills!
Absolutely lived up to its title. This book is creepy, atmospheric, and impossible to put down. The imagery is vivid, the tension never lets up, and the horror lingers long after you close the last page. A dark, unsettling read that fans of supernatural suspense will devour.
I received this short story from a new (to me) author and I absolutely loved it! So much that I didn’t want it to end. This story was different than most and that’s what I love most about it. It’s about an avid book collector that collects rare books, even if they could be cursed. Many readers have very vivid imaginations.. so was it all in his head when weird stuff started happening? Could a book really be cursed? No way, right? I’m also an avid book collector and let me just tell you, I definitely didn’t take my eyes off of my book shelf for a bit. This amazing story is short, sweet and all of the creepy vibes. I look forward to many more creepy tales! Happy reading and watch out for crows!!
Can I just start by saying I don't know why more people aren't taking the chance to grab this ARC up because it is such a well written piece of literature, I was amazed by it.
So I received this directly from Michelle as an e-ARC, and sent it to my kindle at 7pm. By 7.45pm I had finished it. It reads as a novella, I suspect around the 90 page mark (my copy had location numbers rather than page numbers) and the chapters are short and punchy. I loved the way it introduced the premise of the story very quickly and very well in the opening chapter, and I enjoyed watching the web unravel of the mystery surrounding the deaths, the constant appearance of Ezekiel (no spoilers here!) and the little twist at the end, I did not expect, but was very satisfying.
I felt like I was reading one of my own stories, that's how much the writing style matched my own and that gave me a sense of familiarity and comfort within the pages. Based on this story (the first I have read by the author) I am 100% now going to check out her other works. Thank you for the ARC, and well done on writing a great short story!
