Carson I’m the Rookie. That’s how they want to label me. The new guy. But I’m damn good at what I do. I don’t have anything to prove. Except maybe to him. I’ve watched his career for years. So yeah, maybe I want to impress him a tiny bit. But I also can’t help riling him up and ruffling his feathers. He wants me to do things his way, but I don’t work like that. I may be the Rookie, but I’m about to school the Ace. Brayden I’m the Ace. I know what I’m doing, and I can’t stand arrogant newbies who come in, thinking they know it all. I’ve always hated that. But I’ve never despised anyone more than Carson Hayes when he saunters in like he owns the place. The kid is good, I’ll give him that. But he has a lot to learn. I’m the Ace around here, the one everyone goes to when they finally realize they don’t know it all. And the Rookie is about to learn why.

i pretty much adore everything nicole writes, so it really isn’t a surprise for anyone that i liked this one as well. however, it was quite short and without an epilogue, it made me feel as if i didn’t read the entire book. that’s a shame because i liked the rest quite a lot.
Tropes: age gap, rivals to lovers, sports Feels: 3.75/5 Steam*: 3/5 Kinks: flip f***ing Angst: low HEA: yes Pairing: MM Triggers/potential icks/content warnings: homophobia, past death of a friend, unsupportive parents, race car accidents
This book is about 31-year-old bi Brayden and 21-year-old gay Carson. They are both professional race car drivers. They are both in the closet, but Brayden is more open to coming out because he's nearing retirement. Carson is too early in his career to come out, I would wreck his chances a bit, especially because the club they work for is run by a homophobic owner. Brayden is a seasoned vet and Carson is a rookie. At first, Brayden does not like Carson because he is wild and takes risks and he seems like he doesn't take the job seriously and understand that their career is life-threatening, they could accidentally kill someone or hurt themselves if they slip up. Carson is signed to the same club that Brayden works for, and Brayden is strong armed into mentoring Carson to create publicity for the club. They want to sell the bromance angle.
Carson hero worships Brayden, and the both of them are attracted to each other from the start. It doesn't take long for them to realize it's mutual and cave to their attraction. Especially because Carson is a wily little s*** who wants to poke that bear and get a reaction out of Brayden. Their dynamic was cute. Hooking up once turns into Carson insisting on repeats. They go from this will just be one night to let's keep hooking up to exclusive friends with benefits to I love him he's it for me. But then they struggle about a future and coming out. But they are solid with each other it's just the public persona they need to present that causes conflict.
I'm torn about how to rate this book. But in the end I've decided to apply what I like to call "novella standards" to this book. Which means I judge it less harshly, because there's only so many pages that the story is being told in, so I feel like I can't hold it to the same standards that I would apply to a longer book. This book was only 159 pages of actual story, the rest of the pages were about the author's other works.
There was a lot that I really liked about this book. I am a sucker for a low angst, steamy, funny, sweet Love story where there's a grumpy character and a bratty character and they squabble and then give in. I like the trope of whoops I accidentally fell in love. And they were protective and possessive of one another! I loved the jealousy scenes and when they were afraid for the other person's safety due to race car accidents. I'm weak for characters that can't stay away from each other, that rush to be together, that get grabby hands for each other and pout when they can't be close to their loved one, especially when there's some platonic touch thrown in there as well as sexual touch. So this book was very much up my alley.
I also loved all the appearances by Jenny. She is one of my favorite recurring characters in Nicole's books. She is such a boss. She is strong willed and whips all the little shits around her into shape. I also love the appearance of Cooper again, as soon as he was mentioned I knew they were going to be adopting an animal! And when they left that charity function and it was revealed that they had adopted a pet, I was like, Cooper strikes again! No one can say no to Cooper, he is magic.
So what didn't I love? I think the author made a dumb decision about the use of the word couple in this book. She had the characters harping on about being a couple. The use of the word couple was so inorganic. I like when the characters realizations are more stream of consciousness and revealed in involuntary ways, like when their actions or inner monologues accidentally give away or drop breadcrumbs that they are down bad for their love interest. That is more natural to me and I like to see it for myself via actions and thoughts rather than be told it and have a word or an idea repeated so often that it's shoved down my throat that that's where they are. And I feel like the author was also laying some bread crumbs of their feelings but then just took that hammer to us and kept repeating the word couple over and over. So that annoyed me. Clearly enough that I just wrote a paragraph about it. LOL
I also thought the book ended far too quickly. Yeah I would have liked it to be a longer book. But the conflict of their careers was resolved on page 157 out of 159 pages. There needed to be more time after that career conflict was resolved to wrap up their story and show us the direction of their happily ever after. It was just too easily wrapped up without addressing things.
But I enjoyed all the pages that I did read and I'm applying Novella standards, so four stars.
Some notable moments:
"“I’m not teaching him, Jenny. It’s not my goddamn job.” And yeah, sure, I’ve taken plenty of racers under my wing over the years. I don’t mind that in the slightest, but when they’re arrogant little shitheads that call me old man? Hell no."
I fucking love Jenny. She is my hero. The world needs more Jenny's. "Jenny stands up and walks over to me. “You sure you’re okay?” I nod. “Yup. All cleared at the hospital. Just bruised up. I’ll be fine. Nothing can touch me, sweetie.” Brayden smirks, and Jenny grabs my chin firmly, her eyes deadly. “Call me sweetie again. I fucking dare you.” “Fuck.” I wince. “Sorry.”"
*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.
**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.
___________ Temporarily putting this as five stars until I read it, then I'll rate it based on the book. It's just not fair that someone 1 star'd it before it's even out.

Too short, but one of the better stories this series has to offer.
🟢 Kind of rivals/teammates 🔵 Age gap - 10 years 21/31 🟣 Gay/bisexual, both closeted 🟢 Good chemistry 🟡 Coming out 🌶️ Good sex, the right amount, descriptive, I really liked their first time; both vers
Very promising with two good main characters who find themselves on the same team - Brayden already a professional at what he does and Carson a rookie with a small crush on Brayden who has to now play bromance with him for the media.
“My dick gets excited by a hot guy, but my brain knows I don’t want you. I like guys around my age. They can go for hours. Don’t have to wait for them to get hard, and they don’t need rest and a sandwich before fucking me again.”
Even if the chemistry was in fact fantastic and they were great in bed, I think other elements in the story started creeping in way too soon - like love, like forever, like willing to throw away their careers for the relationship? It was a bit too much too soon.
The visuals were great, the tension was there, I think the story had to have a few more chapters before Carson and Brayden went to talk about forever, they just sounded cum drunk and talking about forever and pets and kids was just a bit too unrealistic at that point.
I did like the story, it's a quick read, it pulls you in and the ending is a sappy, cheesy everythingworksout with no epilogue, so I'd say it's a decent ending to the series.
This was such a good read, I loved it! The chemistry between Brayden and Carson was incredible, right from the first chapter. There was so much tension and heat. I feel like this series keeps getting better with each book. I love getting to see characters from the other books in the series as well.
Brayden "The Ace"... veteran racer, bisexual but firmly in the closet, at the top of his game professionally, but aware retirement is around the corner. Carson "The Rookie"... brand new to the sport, gay but not public about it, and in need of a mentor. After a decade of racing, Brayden is the perfect fit to teach Carson that cockiness and recklessness are very different things in a sport where a split second decision can literally mean life or death. At first the bromance is fake, but it doesn't take long before the Ace and the Rookie are heating up more than just the track.
The whole series is sweet and fun, all quick reads with straightforward plots. I find them quite refreshing to read in between longer books. My only issue with this book- why does the poor beagle puppy never get a name?!
Rating: 3.5 Angst: 2.5/5 Steam: 2/5
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Age gap, rivals, teammates, closeted, 'bromance' - so much going on, so many layers and such great characters! I love how Carter chips away at the armour that Brayden wears as a shield. Carter is so sweet, charming and determined! Brayden's history and worldliness are no match for Carter and I love that when he surrenders, he really goes all in!
I also love some of the world pivots that take place in this story... and how the racing community changes too.
This did not fit with the other three books in this series at all. It was just endless sex scenes strung together with barely any plot.
We don't get to really know much about either character and there are massive time jumps that aren't indicated at all, so it makes what is there feel really disjointed.
Not a great way to end a series that was otherwise pretty entertaining.
really loved this sweet story! easy reading at its best! the whole series is great but this one is probably my favorite! i will always recommend this brilliant writer!
"Everything drives me crazy. Especially Carson fucking Hayes." - Brayden
"This is different and kind of strange, but I like it. And I'm not sure how the hell I'm going to let this go when the time comes." - Carson
I really loved this book it's the 4th book in this serie, I haven't read the first 3 books in the serie yet. I'm excited to read about the others stories too.
It's clear from the beginning that Brayden doesn't like Carson, Carson is a bit reckless that is stressing Brayden out. That has all to do with his own history.
I think Brayden's history about his friend adds a lot to this story. I can't imagine being in a place on daily basis with what happened, to be reminded of that.
They are both over thinking a lot (especially Carson) and I love that they always see when the other is overwhelmed.
Coming out is very scary especially if you have a very public career. I love the conversation they had about this, they made each other feel seen.
"It's too damn hard to have to wait to openly love the person you love. We shouldn't have to." - Brayden
"It just isn't fair." - Carson
I really felt for the characters and I was smiling while reading it. I really love Jenny, she's exactly who the guys need. She deserves the world.
I received an ARC of this book. Thank you so much ❤️ This is definitely a five star book for me.
The Rookie vs. The Ace is the fourth book in the On the Track series by Nicole Dykes but can be easily read as a stand-alone. Brayden is the Ace, a ten year veteran of the racing circuit and one of the best around. Carson is the Rookie, a first year racer on the circuit and new member of the team. The PR team wants Brayden and Carson to hang out both at the track and away. They want to push the mentor/mentee relationship and a bromance will only bring in more money for the team owners. Brayden wants nothing to do with Carson, thinking him reckless, impatient and unwilling to listen. Carson has grown up admiring Brayden and wants his respect while keeping his aggressive racing style. The forced proximity leads to more than friendly feelings between bisexual Brayden and closeted Carson and soon they can’t keep their hands off each other. They soon need to grapple with the choice of being with each other openly and the need to stay secret to save their careers. Holy time jump Batman! This book started out very promising. I loved the banter between Brayden and Carson and could see the sparks fly off the page. Once they got together however there would be weird time skips. We would see something from Brayden’s perspective and instead of hearing from Carson, we would jump weeks or even months into the future. Now I didn’t need to see every race on the circuit, that’s not what I’m saying at all, but when they are discovered and Brayden is threatened by the team owner, we never see the fallout where Brayden tells Carson. Instead we jump five weeks into the future with a cursory “owner sucks and we have to stay hidden” throwaway line. This book could have been 100 pages longer and it would have been even better.
Everything drives me crazy. Especially Carson fucking Hayes.
❥ Dual POV ❥ MM Romance ❥ Dislike to Love ❥ Racers ❥ Age Gap ❥ Grumpy/Sunshine ❥ Secret Relationship
This is definitely my favorite in the series so far, and it was just what I needed. It was short and sweet, low angst and with the perfect amount of spice, and most important of all, two extremely loveable MMC’s who got aaaaallll the good chemistry.
Brayden and Carson aren’t friends, in fact Brayden can’t stand Carson, but he needs to pretend to be best friends with him to keep his spot on the racing team. Carson is the new guy, the rookie, while Brayden has been on the team for a decade already, so Brayden is also forced to take on a mentoring role along with the forced bromance. Carson doesn’t mind much though, he’s been lusting after Brayden for a while now.
So their (b)romance doesn’t start out that great, being forced and what not, but it doesn’t take long for Carson to charm Brayden’s pants off, and they do that thing where they pretend they can hook up and not catch feelings. It’s honestly one of my favorite tropes, and it’s done so well in this book. But neither of these guys are out, so it quickly becomes complicated.
I really adored Carson, he was such a sweetheart, but Brayden… There is just something about a grumpy guy, who gets a bit more grumpy when someone is flirting with who he feels is his, and who’ll punch a guy if they maybe not accidentally crash your guy’s car in a race.
A great story about overcoming fear and going for what you want and to be your true self, and about finding love when you least expect it.
“I didn’t even hate you when I wanted to hate you. Now that I love you, I could never hate you.”
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I absolutely loved this series from the author, and I had high expectations for the final book. It absolutely did not disappoint. While it's disheartening that we won't be reuniting with the characters, I have faith that Nicole will find ways to incorporate them in future books.
The story revolves around The Ace, Brayden, and The Rookie, Carson. Brayden, a racing legend, initially finds Carson's risky behavior irritating, despite their mentor-mentee portrayal. However, their relationship evolves from casual hookups to genuine affection. Their banter and intimate scenes intensified my adoration for them. Brayden's unwavering support for Carson's career decisions resonated with me, and Jenny, a character in the story, was a favorite of mine for fiercely supporting Brayden and Carson. The satisfying happily ever after ending left me thoroughly delighted. Overall, I absolutely loved this book.

“I didn’t even hate you when I wanted to hate you. Now that I love you, I could never hate you.”
(ENG) A lighthearted story with characters that make it fun to read. Brayden is already a legend in the racing world and is asked to mentor the newest member of the team, Carson. The chemistry between them is clear from the start, but their internal monologues were what I enjoyed most about the story. I think it's the spiciest book in the series and very well written. Short and entertaining, don’t ask for more.
“I’m not jealous. I’m not. I don’t get jealous. I’ve never been a possessive lover. But if this fucker sweeps Carson’s hair back one more fucking time, I might break his arm off and beat him with it. So there’s that.”
Bray and Carson ?? Yes pls!!!! Nicole always excels in amazing tension and spice - and this book was not shy of it. Pretty much from chapter 1 the intensity was there and as always, i engulfed it all in one sitting. I do with the story was a tad longer so we could have had a longer resolution and epilogue but all around - another great instalment to this series 😌
Oh, it's finally here, Nicole Dykes has nailed it once again! I've been waiting for this for so long and it did not disappoint. I am a HUGE fan of this series and this one fits in to it just perfectly 😍
It follows Brayden (the ace) and Carson (the rookie) as they find themselves on the same racing team. Because Carson is all fresh, shiny & new the team puts him in to the path of Brayden. The plan? Get him to act as a mentor to the impulsive new rookie - I mean what could go wrong?! Bahahaha. Cue rage from Brayden (lol) at what he sees as babysitting the annoying kid, and a bit of hero worship from Carson (bless him) that he actually gets to be around & learn from THE Brayden Beckett. Mentoring soon turns to fake bromance, which turns to real bromance then relationship reeeeeeeally quickly and I am here for it!!!
I absolutely devoured this book and I could not put it down. Honestly, I loved this so much I couldn't stop reading it and I downed it like it was a shot of tequila (but without the regret afterwards!!!). Loved the little cameos from the others from the series too (Hi Coop 👋, I miss you!) and I can't actually find fault in this at all - except that I've finished it and it's over and I must return to my dark cocoon again 🌚
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review
"He's standing before me, naked and beautiful. So very mine. Except He's not."
This was such a fun age-gap sports romance! I'm really enjoying this racing series by Nicole Dykes and The Rookie Vs The Ace was no exception! Carson was such a fun MC. He's young and enjoying the ride his life is taking him on. He's finally made it to the big leagues in racing and he's got the cockiness to go with it.
On the other hand we have Brayden. He's the ace. A legend on the track. And he has no time for egotistical rookies who take too many risks. But it seems what Brayden wants doesn't matter because his PR team want him front and center showing the rookie the ropes. To say Brayden is not looking forward to "faking" his way through a friendship with Carson is an understatement. But it's part of the job and Brayden always does what's expected of him when it comes to his work.
I loved how Carson slowly made his way through Brayden's armor. He was so charming and upbeat. He was impossible not to like. An excitable puppy is how I would describe him. Watching Brayden open up to Carson bit by bit was so amazing. I really felt they suited one another. Brayden kept Carson grounded, while Carson reminded Brayden that life could still be fun. Though there was a touch of angst for the couple to endure at the end, I think it made them stronger for it. Either way, I'm positive it turned out for the better!
The pro veteran racer Brayden is ordered to take the rookie Carson under his wing and act like his friend. Only he despises the young guy who's crushing on him until he no longer hates him but wants the opposite. With previous MCs back, the guys get to soak up their happiness and aim for their own. They can't keep their hands off each other but have to hide from the world. I loved this one and their honesty and attraction to each other. I received a copy of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.
Aweee Brayden & Carson are so cute together. The character development for them both was pretty good mix that with the banter between the two and you have an amazing couple. This author does such a great job with these stories and I’m always excited for the next one!
I’ve enjoyed this series and was looking forward to this book . I did enjoy it but not as much as the other books Maverick & Cooper are still my favourites.
"I’ve never felt like this before, and it’s terrifying."
Brayden has ten years of experience as a racer. But in this field you always have to play a role, in this case, being the "teacher" of the rookie. They must pretend to be good friends, despite Brayden's initial reluctance.
"I didn’t even hate you when I wanted to hate you. Now that I love you, I could never hate you"
This is a fun, short, hot, low angst and cute story. I loved these two idiots! 🫶 They were so cute together!
This is a teammates to lovers romance, featuring Brayden and Carson, and is the fourth and final book in the On The Track series.
This book was fast paced. I finished it so quickly thanks to the audio book, loved the audio. Liam and Tim narrate a lot of Nicole’s books and I am here for it, they do such a great job with her characters. I would be a happy woman if they read all of her books forever.
There is instant attraction between Brayden and Carson and it doesn’t take long for their chemistry to turn physical, hubba hubba, and then it’s on for young and old.
Both MCs are so well suited for each other. I love that Carson saw what he wanted and went for it and wore Brayden down until he pounced. Lots of spice, lots of feelings and no break up.
Little sad this series is finished but I know Nicole has a couple of new series in the works, so I have them to look forward too. I think I’ve read everything in her back catalogue now, loved them all.
Things to expect in this MM romance are: Teammates to lovers Small age gap (31/21) Ace x Rookie Forced prox bromance Grump/sunshine Fast-paced Super spicy Dirty talk All-in HEA
ARC kindly provided for the author in exchange for an honest review
I officially have a favorite book in the On the Track series! I didn't expect Bryden & Carson to steal my heart like this but I loved their love story, the initial animosity between both characters and how well they work despite being so different.
Bryden is the experienced racer despite that he constantly feels insecure due to his age, he's a grump when Carson is around, the loneliest in the group and I loved the tragic story that Nicole gave to this character, his relationship with Jenny and how Bryden is willing to do anything to keep his place on the racetrack.
Carson is completely different: the cocky, conceited and very aware of his talent rookie, ALWAYS manages to push Bryden's buttons, whom he secretly admires and finds very attractive. Carson has a charming personality and I loved reading his true colors, his desire to fulfill his dreams and to be happy too.
Bryden & Carson have my favorite relationship in the entire series: I love how different they are from each other and how they constantly clash because of it, but still can't help what they feel for each other. I loved reading Bryden opening his heart to Carson, giving himself a chance to be happy, and both of them fighting to stay together despite the difficulties.
[I received an ARC for an honest review.] Rating: 4 stars (8/10) Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tropes: training the rookie, forced bromance, one-sided 'hate', age gap, fast burn, coming out, racing Review: I have been looking forward to this one for a while, but I was also not sure what was going to happen either. We really haven't seen much of 'The Ace', just heard of him a couple of times in earlier books, so I wasn't sure what kind of person he was. And our 'Rookie' was a new character who has come from dirt racing into the big leagues. Brayden has been asked (forced) to coach the Rookie, as well as sell their bromance, since he's become kind of boring to the racing world (consistent and no drama, very private), so he needs to sell it to get his ratings up. He finds Carson completely insufferable and egotistical, and he wants nothing to do with the risk-taker, especially given Brayden's history with racing. On the other hand, Carson has admired and maybe hero-worshipped Brayden for a long time, and he so badly wants to get in his pants. He quickly breaks down Brayden's walls and gets those pants dropping 🤭
This story is really a novella, at only 160 pages, so it is very fast-paced. I really enjoyed the ways they slowly opened to each other, and how Carson wormed his way into Brayden's heart. It really wasn't that angsty between them, except for some events that happened near the end. I did find that the first 30 or so pages were probably too fast-paced, and the one-sided hate/rivalry didn't quite hit because of it, as well as the ending being very sudden, but the bulk of the story was fun and juicy and I really enjoyed them fighting their desires and trying to hide what was growing between them, only for them both to not be able to hide it any longer. As always, I loved seeing the other characters too, especially Cooper and Jenny, the cutest cinnamon roll and the badass manager who gets things done. This little group of racing friends is so much fun, and I don't know if there are going to be more books, but I look forward to whatever else might be written in this series.
Oh well... Another series that ends. And yes, sometimes it's good that it ends and gives way to new stories/series, but... it's hard to say goodbye to characters that you've grown attached to.
Brayden and Carson's story is about a veteran racer who knows that even he is one of the best and has been for years, he doesn't have many years left at the top, and one who thinks he is going to be the next "Best" but who is just getting started.
Brayden can't stand Carson. He believes that he is careless and overly aggressive on the track, as well as cocky and overconfident. But Carson couldn't be happier. Finally he is among the greats, more specifically, he is next to his idol, someone he has always admired as a driver, but also someone to whom he has long been attracted.
Forced to share time together due to another PR stunt that wants to take advantage of their supposed "bromance", Brayden soon begins to discover that Carson is much more than he seems, and the attraction between them is impossible to resist and feelings begin to grow. But neither of them is out of the closet, and both fear what it could mean for their careers, although Brayden worries more about how it could affect Carson who is just starting out.
I have to say, so far I loved the story. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that the ending seemed a little rushed, and that again Jenny (and I'm not saying anything against her or that I don't like her) came to the rescue with a solution that appeared almost out of nowhere or at least, that's how I felt it, even though some time passes until everything is solved.
However, that didn't stop me from enjoying the book, nor is it going to stop me from recommending it. The story is entertaining, and as always with Nicole's books, there are banter, cameos of characters from previous books, romance, SEEEEEXY and SPICEY times and a lot of love.
I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
So two things I love this author. Her books are just good to read. So why the three stars, here goes
The book and story itself was a good book and Nicole even says up front she doesn’t know anything or much bout the race area but this is of course not the basis of my review. But does has some little tag in my head.
The first chapter for me was a bit hard to get into the book but after that it was easy reading, and the character came through loud and clear, he was tough, uptight and the ace. He can see his team owner kinda thinking he is also on the way out. The rookie is this wild younger man who is on the team to up the ratings of the team and the next big thing. The two are meant to be ‘good together’, when the ace Braydon hates the rookie Carson, and Carson knows this nd used it to rub Braydon all the time and get on his nerves etc.
They fall in lustthen love. It’s an easy read. The points I didn’t like, the puppy in the story is not needed and was just left on the side and we’ll really just grated on me, due to being not really there but there when needed. Could’ve been a pot plant.
I thought the holiday taken was a bit to low end. Most peeps that have money don’t go to ordinary resorts, they go to high end resorts on high end islands which are hugely private. If you don’t want to be seen you won’t be.
Thirdley the angst level was very low, which is great but was it really angst? That’s my thought I don’t think it was. Plus the ending was really cut, it kinda ended when the book was still moving forward.
In saying all this it was still a nice red. Have fun with it and enjoy the race.
“What do you think, Ace? Ready to show this rookie the ropes?”
Zooming straight off the dirt track and blowing smoke on the tracmac now, Carson is the new rookie wanting to make a name for himself in the racing world.
Knowing each bend and ranking high in his career, Brayden the Ace is an old timer.
Only now with Carson on the race team, Brayden must take him under his wing and sell an all loving fun bromance…before he’s thrown into the wreckage.
“It wasn’t supposed to be that damn good.”
“What? Afraid you’re going to get addicted?”
A fun, light heartfelt, easy read from Nicole. Was good to finally have Brayden & Carson story, having that age-gap and slightly different backgrounds from how they started out. They have a good storyline, Carson already having a crush of aspiring after Brayden and then forming a loving crush. Both are forced to become close friends to create the bromance, leadership and positive image.
It doesn’t go down very well with Brayden but he knows that this could end being his last season and Carson is fresh wanting to become an all star racer. Both hide who they truly are to the public, but soon it becomes clear that they develop feelings for each other. It is nice how this does form, both characters soon open up to each other and join the other hot racers already on the track.
I do feel as though more could have been added, some more information would have completed it and with this being the last of the racers too. But, an enjoyable racing MM read.
I’m living for the first time-maybe ever. And it’s because of him.
The Rookie vs The Ace is book four in the On The Track series. This MM romance story is about Carson and Brayden.
Carson is the twenty-one year old rookie that is signed on to be a professional racer. He is a gay man but not public about it. He is talented, but he also is very cocky and thinks he knows it all. Brayden is the thirty-one year old "Ace" that is a veteran racer. He is a bi-sexual man but also not public about it. He is super grumpy when he finds out Carson is joining his racing team, especially when Carson constantly tries to get under his skin. And to make matters worse, his agent Jenny informs Brayden he needs to take Carson under his wing and then form a bromance with him.
Brayden and Carson find themselves spending more and more time together, and soon we see how their bromance ends up turning into so much more. I was a big fan of Brayden’s jealousy and when he acted like a caveman. Brayden and Carson’s chemistry was amazing and I really enjoyed watching them fall for each other. They had to keep their relationship a secret as their careers were on the line, and I couldn't wait to see how it would all work out.
This has been an amazing series, and I loved seeing some of my favorite characters make appearances in this book. Nicole has this way of writing characters you can't help but fall in love with, and Brayden and Carson are no exception. I can't recommend this series enough, and I hope you will love Brayden and Carson's love story as much as I do!
I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
4.24 stars. Name something negative about someone and Brayden has thought them about Carson. He hates his guts. The guy thinks he owns the tracks, well he doesn’t. He’s just the Rookie! He also hates his other thoughts.
Carson isn’t blind, he can see how hot Brayden is, and certainly when he’s furious. He doesn’t understand why the man hates him.
Oh boy, Carson is an arrogant son of a b!tch, Brayden wants to kill him. Carson is vibrant, with Brayden ten years older, Carson seems a puppy, a happy puppy.
When the real reason reveals why the management added Carson to the team, it pisses Brayden off. They have to play besties, and bromance, if they don’t follow what is asked of them, they won’t like the outcome. Gosh, grumpy Brayden is hot, and Carson is an eager puppy. Before they know they are buddies, with benefits, dang hot I can tell you!
Lines get blurred, colleagues, buddies, f*cking, claiming, feelings, no strings, and they don’t talk. Yup, that’s asking for trouble.
Oh, did I say certain people on their racing team is a homophobic prick? He so is!
I adored this story, Brayden and Carson were both wonderful characters, the feelings were all over the place and palpable. The story is quite interesting and written at a fast pace, it’s engaging, and entertaining, it has fun, and sexiness, and nicely crafted!
