Take the risk of getting to know yourself.

I was first introduced to Morton Kelsey's books in the mid 70"s. Have read most of his books. This particular book I read when it was first published and became a true believer in keeping a journal. Mostly dreams and dream-work.

I am leading a writer's circle and wanted to re-fresh my goals. The members of this group are Hospice volunteers who go out and help the dying to leave their memoirs with their family and friends. The purpose of the writer's circle is to have a better understanding of oneself, so that we can lead the dying patient to focus on the importance of sharing feelings.

Journal keeping is not an easy commitment to keep, one has to believe that if you are consistent with the commitment, you will reach your inner self and grow to love the intimate moments with your true self. Your divine self.

But we are so busy doing that we don't take enough time to be our true self. Our Western culture has distracted us from who we are. A spiritual being in a physical body. We have been doing it backwards. No wonder when tragedy strikes or things are not going our way, we panic.

Morton Kelsey teaches us through his own experience of journaling that it is all worth the risk. Why wouldn't we want to know ourselves better? When we put it down on paper, it becomes real and we are in touch with our inner self and can better understand ourselves and others.

He got pretty weird towards the end. And referenced his own books a lot. The first 5 chapters were the most useful.

Some good info on journaling, but he is very pseudo-spiritual I don't consider it a Christian book as the cover indicates.

I enjoy reading Morton Kelsey's works and appreciate him more the more I read. His straight-forward simplicity and honesty doesn't at all take away from the depths and meaningfulness of what he tries to convey. His tie to Jung is strong but never overshadows his basic commitment to Christ and to church life. The "Adventure Inward" is a confident and proven path and approach to journaling that Kelsey used throughout his life and encourages me to continue and deepen the exploration inward to the farther depths of reality.
