After Adrian & Juliette’s story, I wasn’t sure I could love a Carter brother story as much, but Levi & Dahlia were cute!
(I have to confess it threw me off a bit reading a book with a male MC sharing a name with my younger brother, but it also made me chuckle.)
The flashbacks between present day and when Levi & Dahlia met really set the stage and laid groundwork. It highlighted not only how good Levi & Dahlia are together but also how they’ve changed, too. Dahlia is afraid to let Levi in for fear of losing him. Levi has tried to be enough for everyone. Strong enough for this siblings, good enough for his job. But it’s never *felt* like enough. Both are grappling with grief, but grief isn’t linear. It’s hard & messy & takes time and support.
I adore police/crime drama, so the police therapist & police detective angle was so much fun! Plus, Annah tackled the stigma of mental health in the police workplace in a healthy way. I did feel like Levi was a bit *too intense* at times. I love his small acts of kindness, but Dahlia’s reluctance to start a relationship (due to work issues) did make sense so his persistence felt heavy handed at times. That aside, they really are made for each other.
Watching the Carter family embrace Dahlia and Jasmine made me so emotional. It was beautiful and heartfelt and just… ahh, so precious! 😭
