“Desires and wishes are as separate as snakes and ladders.”⠀

T.G. Frost’s novel is based on Nick, struggling to make ends meet while being hounded by gangsters he decides to take an opportunity that seems simple. He begins working for an old man he helped save whilst working at the doors at a nightclub. The money is good and that improves things for a while until things turn dark. The old man is more than what he seems and lures Nick into a secret that will alter his view forever. Meanwhile, a young girl is taken from the woods by an unnatural entity, are these events connected?⠀

I had whiplash reading this book from the twists I did not see coming. Straight away the scene is set and you get a feel for the type of character Nick is. His future is inevitable from the past he has endured. Once the encounter with this old man occurs the reader gets this unsettling feeling, there is that first hint of something is up with this old man and it gets worse from there.⠀

I enjoyed that this was very dark, it was thrilling and creepy from one turn to the next. The palpable sense of dread was magnified as events unfolded. The unexplained soon sets the bar for how unthinkable things will become and that they did.⠀

I enjoyed reading this, it felt like watching a horror movie. It would be great way to start your spooky season reading.⠀

Many thanks to T.G. Frost for pointing me towards his new book.

THIS BOOK! I got in on KU and regret not buying the physical copy! Where do I start? This is a wonderful novel that has so many elements I enjoy.

First we follow Nick, a fighter who collects checks from fights at bars. He has a dark secret troubling him. One night, while bouncing at a club, he prevents an angry man from beating up an elderly man. This man, Ulysses offers him a better paying position with him. What starts off as seemingly a mere delivery job, turns out more. I just can't say more. There's a lot of darkness, ghosts, missing persons, bl00d and g0re, and more!
