This is an excellent look at what it means to be a man in a world that is increasingly antagonistic to any kind of masculinity. Ramos is unapologetically Christian in his approach and foundation, while still allowing non-Christians an opportunity to find what it means to be a man without diminishing their feminine counterparts in any way. Biblical manhood is not about lording authority over women, but rather it is about leading as a servant, in their God-given role. A must-read!
Helpful principles for Christian men who want to explore topical biblical engagement of masculinity.
I would recommend for a new young men’s group, as most of those types of groups have all thrust and no vector. Ramos helps provide vector to young men.
I enjoyed about 20% of what Ramos outlined. The other 80% seemed to be part personal memoir and repackaging parts of “Blue Like Jazz” and “Velvet Elvis.”
The book as a whole is a motivating work. The part that hit me the hardest was about being present with my family after work, when I’m tired, when they need me the most. Men need to read this book, learn the lessons, and finish strong. The exclamation at the end is so powerful.
An excellent perspective on manhood, fatherhood, marriage, and what Christian masculinity really looks like. Even as a woman it has helped me grow and honestly recognize the great ways my husband is leading our family.
This hit home a little too much lol. A powerful book to help men finish strong, step up and lead. I enjoy Jim's writing style and his blatant slap in the face. Keep writing and I'll keep reading.
