No other book for beginning bird watchers involves the reader so actively in the exciting first steps of learning to watch birds. This workbook is filled with quizzes and exercises that prepare the reader for going birding and help beginners develop a sense of accomplishment and progress. With each chapter covering a different aspect of bird watching, the author guides readers along a threefold learning how to really see birds, how to sort birds by category, and how to learn the easiest birds first. Plenty of room is provided for writing and sketching, and answers are supplied in the back of the book.
Book 25 2012 Reading Challenge -- took me some time to get through, because it is a work book. I learned to appreciate the Peterson guidebooks, which point out special features in various birds to help the birder tell one bird from another. Plus his use of sillouettes of birds sitting and of birds flying is super helpful for identifying. A terrific book that definitely helped build my birding skills.
I loved this book! Awesome job to help any birder develop skills needed when out in the field birding. A great reference as well! I would recommend this to anyone interested in birding!
