Jan Coffey, Nik James, and May McGoldrick are pen names for USA Today bestselling authors Nikoo Kafi and Jim McGoldrick. Together, they have crafted over fifty fast-paced, conflict-filled historical, contemporary, and Western novels, and two works of nonfiction.

Nikoo’s education and training was in engineering. She worked in robotics and submarine shipbuilding. Before earning a PhD in sixteenth-century Scottish and English literature, Jim pursued a hundred and one jobs, including a decade in submarine construction.

Storytellers at heart, Nikoo and Jim were always searching for careers that gave them time for both family and writing. Then, after thirteen years of marriage, they recognized each other’s creative strengths. Nikoo is all about characters and feeling. Jim is about action and sense of place. Their first attempt in writing fiction together produced their award-winning novel, The Thistle and the Rose. Since then, their stories have touched the hearts and minds of millions of readers all over the world. Their work has been translated into over a dozen languages and counting.

Nikoo and Jim are four-time Rita Finalists and the winners of numerous awards for their writing, including the Daphne DeMaurier Award for Excellence, the Romantic Times Magazine Reviewers’ Choice Award, three NJRW Golden Leaf Awards, two Holt Medallions, and the Connecticut Press Club Award for Best Fiction.

The authors make their home in California.

I enjoyed the book. Stayed up all night reading, wanting to find out who did it. Poor grammar at times was bothersome.

A very interesting plot, but too too long. For once I couldn't guess the murderer. Worth a read. Kept me intrigued.

Unexpected plot twist. Lots of dead bodies. Well written with good character development. There were some characters that just provided side plots that were filler.

A sister’s belief in her brother’s innocence. Her own life in dangers only proves to her that there’s more to this story.
I didn’t detect who the true perpetrator was.
An intriguing who done it.

I think this is tied for my Favorite by Jan Coffey first place was Silent Waters now it is both a tie! Readers we have a tie! Two kids come home from school to find their parents dead and that is where the journey begin but not where it ends. Well written as I always expect from this writer. I love the almost lyrical style of this one or maybe it is just me and when I read it it seemed that way. This is a must read for 2014 and you will smack yourself in the face with a book if you miss out one this one. I really can not find a single bad thing to say well done JAN COFFEY!!!!!!!

I enjoyed this book despite its indecision whether it is a romance or a mystery. There's plenty of misdirection and blame spread around so that the true culprit is a surprise, although lots of foreshadowing sent me back to reread certain parts with an "Oooooh!" feeling. The town still feels like a place I probably would not want to live!
