Takopi's Original Sin is a truly brilliant manga with a fantastic plot, fantastic artwork that perfectly complements the tale, and multi-dimensional characters who you can relate to and feel for. It also has incredible emotional moments that even moved me to tears (the ending). This brief manga was incredible to read and is undoubtedly unique.

I'm probably on the unpopular opinion side, but I loved it.
The ending was so emotional and I think it was wrapped up perfectly.

The story in general feels very heavy since the very beginning, and this feeling does not chamge throughout the volumes. The plot is indeed very serious and this mysterious creature was used perfectly during the whole narration.

The set of characters was very well crafted and every one has their strong personality.
Another aspect that I loved was the art. I loved this style so much and those full page portraits were amazing and full of feelings.
I felt what the author wanted to tell and the art helped so much during this journey.
A beautiful yet hurtful mini series that I'm very glad I decided to get.

By volume 2, things get very ambitious in a way that doesn't exactly feel planned out. I respect the desire to go big, but nothing particularly worked for me. In fact, as things went on, the new direction began to detract from what I felt originally worked in the first handful of chapters. The ending was nice but felt a bit unearned. I feel like it needed more time to flesh out its concepts but at the same time I was mostly ready for it to be over.

Regardless, Taizan5 is starting a new series in Jump soon and I am very excited to see where it goes. I feel like with the right guidance and proper planning this author could make something truly great.

Taizan 5 really knows how to destabilize everything you thought you knew—just like in Volume 1, this second volume hits the restart button on the plot around the ten-chapter mark, flipping your expectations and forcing you to question everything again. That’s what makes this story so compelling: even when the lore is unclear or confusing, you stay deeply invested because the characters feel raw and real. What stood out most in this volume was how painfully honest the depiction of trauma and survival is, especially through Shizuka. Her birth wasn’t her choice—it was the result of the failures of the adults around her—and yet she carries the blame for everything wrong in Marina’s household. When Marina dies and Shizuka feels relief, it’s not cruelty, it’s survival. The feeling of finally being free from the person who made you want to die is one of the most honest moments in the book. Shizuka may be manipulative, especially with Naoki, who she knows will do anything for her, but that’s not because she’s evil—it’s because no one ever showed her how to be safe or loved. Her thoughts are strange and twisted, but they’re what happens when a child has no role models and grows up trying to protect herself. Even Marina, for all her violence, wasn’t born cruel; she was reacting to her own broken situation. In the end, none of the main characters—Naoki, Shizuka, Marina, or Takopi—are truly wrong. They all acted as best they could given their circumstances. I really appreciated that the story didn’t end with a neat resolution. There’s no perfect happy ending, but there is understanding. Takopi helps them realize that their lives may be painful and unfair, but they don’t have to endure it alone. That message, simple and grounded, was beautiful in its realism. For a manga that balances childlike whimsy and overwhelming darkness, this volume hit hard—and I wouldn’t trade the read for anything.

I didn't like it as much as the first Volume, but it was still enjoyable. I didn't expect where this was going and when the ending finally came, I was a bit confused. But the ending made me cry.

Vibras similares a Oyasumi PunPun.

Uff.. Lépe si to vysvětlit nemohu..

Když to shrnu..

Když tuto sérii budu porovnávat s jinými či spíše podobnými divnými až creepy, smutnými a všelijakými sériemi.. Tak si zaslouží 5/5 hvězdiček..

Tato série je jeden velký mindfuck!

Cukup kaget dg plot twist yang diberikan divolume 2. Tapi lumayan bingung dg ending yg diberikan, ini ko begini yah? Loh ko gitu?
Tetap esensi dark yg diberikan masih melekat.

sadly worse than the 1st volume. too much messing with time in different ways and one character is forgiven everything and faces no consequences because of the sad backstory. I love the art style though

A tady to šlo do kytek.

""Talking... brings happiness-pi!""

The suffering continues to snowball a bit, but... everything kind of works out in the end(?). Things didn't go the way I did predict, but I suppose really I should have expected this a little, at least with the mention of a in Volume 1....

This is one of those stories that has quite a few "conditions" for the audience to accept in order to enjoy. Firstly, the "misery-porn" could definitely be a "turn-off" for a lot of readers. Second, I'd say the "humor" of Takopi's naivete is probably awkward to get used to, and I imagine a good many readers ignore it in favor of focusing on the "drama" rather than the "irony" of Takopi's character. The ending could be seen as "sappy" or "too clean," which could be a turn-off as well. And, this is what affects me most, at the end of the day the "ride" is all about floating on the suffering so the last chapter can make you feel better, meaning the whole thing is rather "manipulative," and it's a question of whether you're a) dumb enough to let it affect you without questioning, b) too cynical to fall for it, or c) in the middle, where you can see that Taizan 5 is trying to work your heartstrings like a puppet, but you have time to kill and let him do it.

There seems to be a "big thing" in the West where readers assume the manga was "axed" because of how short it was, but I don't believe that to be the case, even if it really does feel like it sometimes. From my understanding, the manga was always popular when it ran, and it was on the digital Jump+ platform, which... seems not to have high standards anyway. The physical tankoubon releases also sold very well. Everything points to Taizan 5 having planned the manga to be only sixteen chapters. But... it really feels like the and parts are glossed over, so I kinda wish we have a few more chapters to flesh those bits out.... And, more superficially, enough extra chapters to warrant a third volume would allow a cover for Azuma-kun, which I feel is something we're sorely lacking.

I kind of wish we could get an anime film adaptation of this, but I know that would mean a bunch of stupid people would find out about it and overhype it much worse, like what happened with Koe no Katachi....

Like Shizuka literally killing her half siblings/ fathers kids •_• and cutting the stomachs open to find her dog………. But the plot twist was awesome, love time travel. The ending is nice too. Takopi did his purpose after all. Happy ending.

If you wanna read more about my overall thoughts on this story, I have another review for the other book.

I do still like these books overall, but I personally feel the second half is weaker than the first (though admittedly, I wasnt really paying a lot of attention to where that line is)

It's not that nothing interesting happens.... Because they do! But I felt it felt sort of rushed and forced towards the end.... Endings are hard, I feel I'm rarely satisfied with them... But at the same time, for a story about how complicated sadness and happiness is, I feel like it was resolved all too quickly. Or maybe I'm just not getting the point.

Also, I forgot to say before... I really like the part where the mother is begging takopi to bring her daughter back after he pretends to be her... I think sometimes abusive parents in stories are always completely blind to those things, or don't care. It's sort of refreshing to see an abusive mother who also has a deep love for her daughter in her own way. I think that's closer to the realities I've seen, though both do exist.

Hmm this was an interesting concept, and I love what they were going for. I feel the story (especially in the first volume) was waaay too heavy and dark to match the ending though.
This is coming from someone who believes in speaking honestly to children; I just think the angst could’ve been dialed back a notch. Kids can still relate and empathize with rough times without exposing them to an absolute barrage/slog of depressing content. Seriously gave me some PunPun flashbacks…
