Her Freedom Rider mugshot has been called one of the most iconic in American history. By the time she was 23 years old, Joan participated in over 50 sit-ins and demonstrations. From her cell on death row to the infamous Jackson Woolworth's Sit-in, Joan helped change the world. Through highs and lows, victory and death, her story is embodied in seven core principles we all can harness to get back to the counter no matter how many times life pulls us off.
Incredible story about a white woman from the South, raised under the umbrella of racism and segregation, but would not assimilate these practices into her heart. Instead, she went against everything her and her community stood for and chose to fight in the civil rights battle. Being jailed, beaten, almost killed, didn’t deter her. Stories like these need spoken of and recreated in schools. They’re an inspiration to us all 🖤🤍
