Step 1 - buy a long-dated put option that expires approximately 120 days and past the next earnings announcement. This is our sleep-at-night insurance.

Step 2 - sell a short-dated put that expires the following week.

Step 3 - manage and repeat

Example:

SCHW is trading at $74
-buy a $70 put expiring in 120 day and pay $4.20
-sell next week's at the money $74 put and collect $1.28
--if you do that for 16 weeks (120 days) you would collect $2,048

--if the underlying drops in price, you would buy back your weekly (at a loss) and sell back your long-dated put for a profit which will cancel out all/most of the loss

needs more details on executing the strategy

Too much fluff and pseudo psychology, not enough specific details to execute the strategy presented. That said, pretty good primer on options trading when combined with other resources.

only skimmed. Even that's more cuz reading 1st comment only itself would be more than enough 😓. Didn't understand properly why he's doing this strategy. Not explained easily even though it seems very basic .

THE WEEKLY CASH KACHING FORMULA: (don't even know what's this kaching is🤷)

Step 1: We select a stock we want to trade

* It must be trading at $20 or higher. Under $20 stocks do not get any love from the big funds, so many times, the premiums are very low.

* Avoid stocks over $400—this is personal

* Avoid apple . Apple is a great stock to own but a lousy stock to trade

* Avoid Chinese stocks (this is personal for me)

* ETFs, for the most part, do not have enough premium;

It must show an up or sideways, consolidation pattern, meaning it is digesting and coiling for the next move. Look over a 3-month period since these are really 3-month trades.

Step 2: We buy a long-dated put option that expires in approximately 120 days and past the next earnings announcement. This is our sleep-atnight insurance

* The average delta in most of my long protective puts is 25%.

* In “risk-on” times, and with a stock that continues to hold its own, I increase the delta to 35–40%

* If any long put delta goes under 25%, I cash it out and buy another with the 25% delta

(The lower the delta, the higher the probability the option will expire worthless. Of course, less risk means less premium.)

Step 3: We sell a short-dated put that expires the following week. That premium is instantly credited to your account

Technically, you collect the most premium at or near the money

Many more conservative investors sell more out of the money. And that, of course, is fine. The trade-off is a premium

For me, if the trend is moving along and up, the reduced risk does not offer that much more protection and is not worth losing 30–55% in premium.

I downloaded Options Trading by T.R. Lawrence to learn about investing using options. The typical stock strategy books I have read are pretty arrogant. This book takes a much friendlier approach and begins with understanding your motivations and biases. It then gets into options background, definition, and uses. Then, a deep dive into a weekly option. This means an option contract that lasts for a week.
The meat of the book is the weekly option strategies in chapter six. Lawrence explains how to select a stock and what option to purchase. He provides an excellent example for Charles Schwab (SCHW). My most important takeaway of the example was understanding insurance. Before this book, I had a completely different idea of how options insurance worked.
I got a lot out of this book and recommend it to beginners who wish to understand this lucrative investment opportunity.

A sound strategy to generate weekly income and reduce risk using options

As important, if not more so, than making money trading stock options is developing a calm and mindful approach which takes a lot of the emotion out of trading. The author encourages one to develop a trading plan which reduces the feelings of greed or fear that lead to losses. When in doubt stick to the plan and make more than you lose consistently using the author's vertical credit spread strategies trading weekly options. I recommend this book to traders looking for another tool in their search for profits in the stock market.

A plan worth reading

TR's book starts with trading psychology, the most misunderstood factor in trading in any market. He then breaks down why weekly options, strategies and his formula for trading options. His book comes with a spread sheet, if you email him, and he responded quickly. This spread sheet coupled with his strategy is a winning formula for success, however it does come with a price; and that price is practice, practice and more practice... So, don't discount or write him off because you didn't understand or practice his strategy, this is not something that you will learn over night or in 10 minutes after reading his book...

Informative & enlightening

Because of the nature of options, many of the strategies discussed in this book need to be read, reread, studied, and mused. As such, it will be a wonderful reference to which I will return when exploring the myriad of option strategies. As a novice, there are only several of the strategies I am currently comfortable exploring, but the writer's style leaves me confident that I can come back to his teachings when I am ready to branch-out to a more advanced strategy.

How do you relate to risk?

The author's experience in the securities industry comes through, he writes from what he did for a living! There are a few spots in the book containg securities jargon but the reader can reread for clarity. The author reflects Options trading is a risky business without being an alarmist. How much tolerance do you have for risk? Can you sleep at night with even only a few dollars out of your control? This book is not only a guide to Options trading it might just help you sleep better ! I will recommend this book.

Better than expected! This book makes a great coverage of basic options trading, with focus on selling options. I particularly liked the analogy with buying one gallon of ice-cream and selling it by the scoop.

A lot of condensed information is presented; taking notes and coming back to revisit them is recommended.

Main takeaways for me were sections focused on stock selection and trading plan. Some important factors were added to my checklist.

Teaches you to have a relationship with money!

This book is a true gem! It teaches you how to manage your money the right way and in an effective manner. I really liked how the author was very sentimental when it came to managing money and how it plays a big part with our emotions with money! I highly recommend!

excellent!!!

I have used your Kaching method for over a month now!! So far, I have been lucky. Just trading a small amount 1 sell and 1 buy out options. 3 different stocks and sectors! All three have returned a profit so far and it’s only been about 5 weeks!! I’m getting very excited about increasing the number of options!!! Thank you so much for enlightening me!!!!

Less of a general introduction to options trading and more of an outline of the options strategy implemented by the author. Nonetheless, a valuable and enjoyable read that has provided insight into the world of options trading. While I don’t anticipate employing this investment strategy, it’s valuable to learn about tactics traders employ to extract value from the stock market.

Understanding Option Strategies

Good analysis on various options strategies. However, I feel you must be in the arena, and be willing to suffer some losses in order to fully employ and understand the strategies discussed in this book. It all comes down to trial and error to become successful in trading options.

It is evident the author is experienced. I would recommend this book to someone with trading experience and basic understanding of options. Some explanations are basic while others require more explanation.

great read

I enjoyed this book and the topics covered in addition to the trading strategy. Found the sections covering behavioral biases, how people view money and advice on documenting a trading plan very helpful.

Good Introductory Book

Good introductory book for options trading. Most of the book focuses on understanding the basics of market trading and one particular strategy. Some advanced strategies are also briefly covered along with a good template for a trading journal.

Very much a beginner’s book for the basics in options strategies. Nothing new if you’ve already been trading awhile. But if starting from scratch it’s good for fast learning.

Neglects to properly treat the risk of diagonal put-spreads

Excellent book with clear explanations and illustrations.

One complaint with the book publisher, not the author, is the limitation on how much of the book can be copied and pasted. I understand the reason, but my purpose is to create my "personal cheat sheet" of areas of the book that were especially important to me for my future reference. I discovered this when trying to copy more passages and got a popup telling me I had reached my limit of copying.

Nevertheless, it's a great little book filled with really good useful info.

My thanks to Mr. Lawrence, the author.
