Getting assassinated sucks. Just ask Thomas, a man from Earth who made a few too many enemies. Or you could ask Lucian, the crown prince of another world who met a similar fate.
But if you were to ask either of them, then you'd actually be asking the same man, as Thomas' soul was crammed into Lucian's body during their simultaneous assassinations.
The Goddess who reincarnated him didn't do it for free, though. She tasked Lucian with the simple quest of saving the Almekian Kingdom from the brink of collapse.
At least, it would be simple for someone like Lucian, if it weren't for the God's Acolyte who's wreaking havoc in his new world. Not to mention the numerous other powerful players who don't really hold the crown prince in high regard.
With a blade lurking behind every corner, can Lucian even survive long enough to see the crown placed on his head?
Action, magic, and intrigue. And a cute foxgirl companion, of course.
It's not easy to find time to write with a 9-5, but I've wanted to get The False Hero out of my head and onto paper for a long time. My goal isn't anything lofty, like quitting my job to become a full-time author. No, I'll be happy to break even on my investment (full color illustrations are not cheap!). Even if nobody reads my books, I'll keep writing. Why, you may be asking? Well, simple--because I want to read them!
I hope those of you who've been enjoying the series will stick with me as I continue down this fun and adventurous journey.
I picked this up because I like the author's False Hero series and this one promised older protagonists so there'd be less constraint on party dynamics. Yes, I'm skating around sex and a probable harem. Anyway, I wanted to see what the author did with that as a setup.
And now I don't care any more. The problem is that the guy Thomas isekais into is a disgusting human being and that means Thomas is forever tying himself into knots keeping up the charade that he's still that guy so he can be king. So he "saves" a foxgirl soldier being picked on by inviting her to his chamber because everyone knows what a womanizer his predecessor was. And yuck. Keeping that as the pretense means he's supporting that premise and encouraging people to continue thinking of him as this reprobate.
And I, for one, have little interest in that as a plot dynamic. So I'm out and calling it one star.
I’m afraid I wasn’t convinced right from the start of the book and after about half-a-dozen chapters the story still didn’t feel right. I know it’s fantasy and Thomas was ‘thrown’ into a contrived situation as part of the story, but I really didn’t think the author had thought through where it was going.
I think part of the problem early on, was that the author has put the middle aged Thomas in the body of a teenager and has forgotten he was supposed to keep his original intellect and wisdom, instead of making him completely lacking in all common sense.
After the poor start the story did improve and Thomas/Lucian did make use of some of his previous life knowledge, although as an American politician I would have expected him to be better adapted to dealing with a corrupt vicious system.
Overall this was a decent read and I was beginning to enjoy the story towards the end, although during the big battle the author indulged in one of my pet hates; Why in the middle of a big fight do the protagonists stand around having a chat?
Ehh. It didnt scratch the right part of my brain. With Thomas being reincarnated into Luciens body, I expected a bit more maturity out of Lucien. He could have pulled it off with a near death experience changing you, but he just fumbled around. I really did like Emilia! She was probably the only character I liked. Overall, I wasnt a fan of how the story was progressing. Lucian is a jerk in the worst possible ways and Thomas did nothing to improve the reputation even though he could have. Not every book is a hit.
Having read all of the False Hero books to date, I figured I would give this one a try too. It did not disappoint, and in fact I was caught up considerably. Similar style but different story kept me intrigued to what will happen to this new hero. A worthwhile read!
At the actual epilog I nearly put the book down and ignored the series. The 2 final "extra" chapters really saved the series here. Think a realist saves the kingdom, but mixed with in another world with a smartphone.
It's a light novel (an anime in book form) so you need to be ready for the cheese. The characters are just tropes. The dialog was uninspired. It was an ok distraction overall.
This was a fun litrpg with the action starting pretty quickly into the story. The MC is reincarnated into a new world, into the body of a royal who has been assassinated. He doesn’t retain the memories of the royal but of his past life and unfortunately for him this means he has a lot of missing information including how much of a shit person the prince was.
The MC is here to try to save the world and he comes off as kind and compassionate. He has to learn his skills and build allies and find out who is trying to assassinate him.
Eventually, it is revealed to be his uncle who tries to take over the kingdom by force but the MC is able to defeat him and maintain the title for now. He knows there is a war coming and priority is feeding the people and preparing for war in the spring.
Overall, the story is interesting and fun. There is a touch of slice of life with progression to build skills and get stronger. I will continue reading this series.
