This has been a wonderful book to begin learning the art of calligraphy with. The basics chapter covers tools and materials, techniques, and other general tidbits. It’s organized in a chronological order, but you are given a suggestion of which ones to start with as a beginner. As it dives into devoted sections for each script, you get a concise but solid background of each script, along with specific techniques, what makes each one unique, and instructions for constructing each letter, with variations when applicable. The ending sections cover modern techniques and tools, along with pictographs, decorations, celtic knotting, and layout tips. All in all, it has made the beginning of this journey very informative, and i’m confident is learning the art in a proper way (rather than all those modern hand-lettering books that may or may not be based in actual calligraphy and proper construction of characters). There’s plenty of information for me to use this for years to come.
