Silverweaver: an Ilia Archives Novella

Rate this book
When the hunter...
...becomes the haunted.

Second-rate ghost hunter Anya Iteri is the black sheep of a family of metalweavers—powerful mages who can forge iron, shape steel, and even bend blood. Down on her luck and struggling to pay rent, she bribes her little brother, a city guide, to let her drum up business on one of his tours.

The plan is simple. Summon a hibernating ghost to give the tour a show, return it to its slumber, and collect a hefty tip. But the moment the tour begins, Anya encounters a ghost of a different kind in Eleira Soti, talented hunter and former love of her life, newly returned to the city after years away. El’s familiar face leaves Anya fighting distraction and attraction alike on the city’s most haunted grounds.

The night goes from bad to worse when a malignant spirit emerges from the veil, bent on destroying the tour and everyone on it. Racing against time, Anya must team up with El to trap the ghost, save her brother, and prove, once and for all, that her abilities aren’t as second-rate as others think.

4.5/5

In "Silverweaver" by Cameron Montague Taylor, readers are treated to a thrilling novella that seamlessly blends elements of the supernatural with themes of complex familial relationships. Anya, a determined yet incredibly underestimated ghost hunter from a family who expected her to be a surgeon, finds herself in need of a job. Her medical student younger brother hosts ghost tours on the side for money and she requests to tag along to increase his tips by wowing the tourists.

There is a delightful second-chance sapphic romance between Anya and the formidable spirit weaver El Soti. Against the backdrop of a city teeming with spirits, the tension between Anya's lingering feelings for Eleira and the urgent need to confront a powerful supernatural threat creates a compelling setting that propels the narrative forward. The novel's richly developed world-building showcases the fascinating abilities of spirit weavers and metal weavers, immersing readers in a vividly imagined world. Furthermore, the exploration of complex familial relationships adds layers of emotional resonance.

"Silverweaver" is a delightful and immersive read that expertly balances elements of romance, suspense, and lore. I NEED a full series with these characters. Immediately.

Thanks to the author for an eARC. This is an honest review.

Do you like Legends & Lattes or Can't Spell Treason Without Tea and wish they were just a tiny bit spookier but still just as cozy? Well NEVER FEAR Silverweaver is here!

Lovely, charming, a bit spooky with well-drawn characters and relationships, I ate this book up.

THRILLING, SPOOKY, SAPPHIC ROMANCE

Cameron Montague Taylor’s novella Silverweaver is adult first person POV gas lamp fiction set in a Victorian/Edwardian era magic-based world. The strong, decisive, slightly snarky female protagonist, Anya Iteira, is plagued by a lack of confidence in her metalweaving as she defies the expectations of her family. She falls on hard times after the breakup with her more powerful and competent spiritweaving girlfriend, Eleira Soti. Anya yearns for the comradery and intimacy when she and Eleira were a team helping stranded ghosts cross over and destroying dangerous malevolent spirits. The major thread of the sapphic romance comes in to play when unplanned circumstances bring them together to deal with a surprisingly powerful supernatural foe in a Byzantine abandoned cathedral. During the action-packed magical battle scenes, Anya gains confidence in her abilities while reconnecting with Eleira.

For me, this was a quick and enjoyable ARC read. The main characters are fleshed out, likable and relatable. A dark and spooky setting is perfect for the fast-paced plot. Emotional bonding, not spice, is the focus of the romance. The magic system is interesting, but being a novella, the world-building is limited. Future works using this magic system to showcase the bigger picture on how it influences society will be enjoyable to see. Fans who enjoyed the Babylove series by I.S. Belle and/or My Dearest Darkest by Kayla Cottingham will most likely love Taylor’s Silverweaver.

If you’re looking for a quick read to get you into the spooky season mood, Silverweaver by Cameron Montague Taylor might be the one for you.

What I liked:
-I enjoy a good ghost story.
-There was a lot of world building in a short amount of time. Sometimes this can be a bad thing, however the world was easy enough to understand and follow along and I enjoyed the fantasy/magic elements.

What I didn’t like:
-I was left wanting more. It was a little stop and go, with a spot of excitement followed by a lull of not much happening. I feel this is where the story could have benefited from being a little longer so the scenes could be a little more involved.

Overall, I appreciated the world I was plopped into. I was left wanting a little more from the “ghost” aspect, however I can definitely see where this book would appeal to some who get anxious with non stop action and high stakes.

Two words: Masterful writing. I don't say that lightly. I received an e-ARC copy and devoured it in a single sitting. If you want to be taken on an exciting journey into a world of metal-manipulating mages who hunt ghosts-among other myriad professions such talents allow-and experience rich world-building, complex character relations(rife with conflict), and a dash of romance in the midst of a simple task gone horribly awry, then this spooky sapphic snack is your perfect cozy Halloween read. The romance strikes a perfect balance between pining and fluff without overshadowing the immediate danger the characters find themselves in. Taylor *weaves* (yes, pun intended) an immediately engaging tale of strained familial bonds, the courage to make oneself vulnerable, the weight of societal expectations, forgiveness, and the power of self-acceptance. I enjoyed this story immensely and was only sad because it was over so soon. I can't wait to read Cee's next sapphic story if we should ever get one, whatever it might be!

Fun and gripping; even in such a short space, the sibling dynamic tugged on my heartstrings, the romance had me cheering for them from the moment El shows up and the lore is intricate and beautifully set.

✅ Unique Worldbuilding & magic system
✅ Well rounded & interesting characters
✅ Ghosts, Demons, and more - oh my!
✅ Second chance sapphic romance subplot
✅ Plot driven but not at the detriment of it's character building

⚠️ Too Damn Short! Yes - yes - I am aware it is a Novella and perfectly Novella length but I am chomping at the bit for more! What a tease!

I am severely late in posting my review. However, in these months I still find myself thinking about this one. It's an immersive and gratifying read despite just being a snapshot into a larger, more interesting world & story yet to be told. I want to know more about the ghost hunters Anya (the silver weaver) & El Soti (the spirit weaver), and the world they live within. Their past, their future, and everything in between. I aggressively & desperately need more.

I digress, as long as you're okay with the length being a tease of a novella, I fully recommend. 10/10

Please help me peer pressure the author into writing more.

TBH, this is more of a 4.5 star for me. I recently had the opportunity to read an ARC for Silverweaver: an Ilia Archives Novella, part of an asynchronous collection of standalones by Cameron Montague Taylor and, y’all, I can’t wait for this to hit the shelves. It is soooo good! An underdog MC with the perfect level of snark to cover her soft insides, a touch of sibling rivalry, and second chance romance? Yes, please.

When second-rate ghost hunter Anya teams up with her fellow metalweaver baby bro on a piece-of-cake ghost tour to collect some coin, Anya inadvertently runs into her ex, who just so happens to be the biggest bada$$ in the ghost hunting world. What could possibly go wrong?

Everything, that’s what!

With a super cool Airbdender-esque magic system, Taylor weaves together an action-packed ride full of family ties, messy breakups, light politics, humor, heart, sapphic swoons, and more in this Gaslamp fantasy.

The writing is tight and the descriptions are right on the mark.

The relationship between Anya and her baby bro, Taran, reminded me a lot of the relationship with my own bro who's many years younger -- sometimes we're the best of pals, the next we wanna rip the other apart. Same for Anya and Taran, but it was the moments they truly say the other that made my heart swell. Same with the interactions between Anya and El. It was obvious in every word, glance, and near-touch that these two are fabulous together. Two halves of the same whole kind of thing, and the light-spice romance was not only refreshing but also very well written. Cheers for WLW books!

Taylor's use of an Airbender meets Grisha kind of magic system was totally cool and felt fresh within the Ilian society where magic is a common thing. The magic is also tied to the people's belief systems, which are explain in nice layers without feeling too expository.

With high-stakes action and really cool use of magic-turned-weapon, I was on the edge of my seat through most of the second half!

Really, the only bit that hit an odd chord for me was Anya's age. She's noted as being 28, but read much younger for me. But that may be because I read mostly YA and this felt very YA in tone and character behavior. In any case, it wasn't anything that pulled from my enjoyment.

Silverweaver is definitely a solid read and a great start to the Ilia Archives! Perfect for fans of Susan Dennard's Witchland series and Leigh Bardugo's Shadow & Bone series.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This novella is short and sweet, with a unique writing style that kept me entertained throughout the entire read. It could easily be read in one sitting, as it is fast-paced and filled to the brim with action. Along with that, it has a compelling sapphic romance plotline.

Silverweaver is written in first person, from the point of view of the main character, Anya. I’m not usually a fan of first person storytelling, but this book was so eloquently written that it might have changed my mind. The prose is incredible and unique, as well as giving a very engaging point of view to the world and relationships between characters.

The action in this book is enthralling, and it was fast-paced enough to keep my attention for the entire experience. The descriptions of action-filled scenes are extremely well written and engaging, and every action had a logical reason behind it. This definitely left me on the edge of my seat a few times, equally worried and curious about what might happen next.

The characterization was another thing that I enjoy about Silverweaver. Each character is unique with compelling and reasonable motives. The dialogue from each character feels distinctive, and it is always easy to tell who was speaking, even without reading the dialogue tags. All the main characters are fun to read about and invoked emotional reactions from me.

The romance in Silverweaver, while short, is fascinating. I love the casual sapphic representation, and the characters have incredible chemistry. Anya’s inner monologue shows how much that she cares about El, and it was so exciting to see them gradually grow closer. I would love to hear more about El and Anya in future installments in this series.

I like the worldbuilding in this book, and I think it would be amazing to delve into the history of this world more in future installments. The worldbuilding in Silverweaver was slightly confusing, and it felt as if there was more to say about the backstory of this wonderful setting. I can’t wait to see what else this world has to offer in the future.

Overall, this is a great first installment in the Ilia Archives series, and I can’t wait to see what else the author has to offer. Anyone who wants a short, fast-paced thriller and/or spooky sapphic romance, Silverweaver is for you.

Note: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Silverweaver is a gem of a novella. I blew through it in a few hours on a rainy Sunday, because it’s a novella, yes, but also because of its excellent pacing and interesting, yet easy-to-comprehend writing style.

Most of the story takes place in one night. Ghost hunter Anya convinces her tour guide brother, Taran, to let her accompany him on a tour of a church. What is meant to be an easy, pain-free task takes a turn for the worse, and chaos ensues. It’s action-packed, but not to the detriment of characterization or emotional moments.

From the beginning, I was invested in the main character, Anya. She’s critical of herself, but not to the extent that her head was an unbearable place to be for the duration of the story. Her character growth was satisfying and tied in nicely with the external plot and relationships.

I enjoyed experiencing Anya and El reconnecting through Anya’s point of view. There were a few moments where Anya thought one thing to El, but because she was nervous, she said something else. I found that to be endearing and extremely relatable.

As an older sister to a much younger brother, I thought the relationship between Anya and Taran was well done. The author captured the way siblings talk to each other—especially siblings who are separated by so many years and different experiences with their parents. It was clear that they had their differences, which at times meant they didn’t treat each other as well as they should, but beneath it all was an undercurrent of unconditional love.

While we only got to experience a small piece of it, the world felt whimsical and dark at the same time, with unique gaslamp elements woven throughout.

My only criticism is that I wish we had more time with the characters and the world. While I loved that it was a quick read, I found myself wishing the story went deeper than was possible in the short space of a novella. I’m excited to get a chance to explore the world of the Ilia Archives series.

I recommend Silverweaver to anyone looking for a light, spooky fall read!

I want to start off with thanking Cameron for the digital ARC of her novella Silverweaver.

Silverweaver follows Anya a ghost hunter who also happen to be a metalweaver. To try to make some money, she convinces her younger brother Taran to take her along on one of his ghost tours of the city where she would summon a benign spirit to entertain the tourists. On the night of the tour, Anya is greeted by her ex-girlfriend Eleira who was once her partner as a spiritweaver and another hunter that Taran brought as backup. The spirit that is summoned is not what is expected and the night goes to hell.

This is an excellent start for a series. I love the magic system what little we see of it in the novella. It has such potential to be explored in later installments. That really is my only complaint is that I wanted more world building that you usually don't see in novellas. I hope Cameron writes more to see what else this magic can do and what others are out there.

Anya is a fantastic main character. She comes from a metalweaver family who expect her to become a doctor like her parents but drops out of school to become a ghost hunter. Her family doesn't understand why she did this and do not support her. She was an up-and-coming hunter with her partner/girlfriend Eleira who is a gifted spiritweaver before Eleira was offered a chance to go to the capital which she took. Anya has a lack of confidence in herself because of her family thinking she won't amount to anything as a hunter and then El leaving her behind for better opportunities. The relationship she has her brother is strained because he thinks the same way as their parents but after glimpsing what Anya is really capable of their relationship begins to mend.

This is a nice spooky read for right of the start of spooky season. It is a well written quick read that is very enjoyable. The characters are likable and realistic with how they bond emotionally with each other. Definitely recommend this for fans of gaslamp fantasies.

NOTE: I received an ARC digital copy of this book at no cost, and the author and I have worked on a project together in the past. However, she asked for nothing more than an honest review.

Novellas can be tricky. You have to combine a short story's demand for lean, streamlined storytelling; but you also have to produce a thoughtful plot with rich, detailed characters and worldbuilding. Fortunately, Cameron Montague Taylor checks all of the boxes in a fantastic gaslamp fantasy thriller.

The story follows Anya, a ghosthunter with a particular talent with metal, trying to convince her dubious brother Taran to partner with her on a job. Taran, who makes money guiding ghost tours in a world in which ghosts are fairly commonplace and (mostly) benign, reluctantly agrees, bringing his tour group to a location in which Anya will summon a cheerful ghost, impress the tourists, and bring the tips rolling in. But when Anya's exgirlfriend Eleira is one of the tourists, and Taran brings the world's most arrogant hunter as backup, things go badly sideways when the spirit that shows up is not benign. It's angry as hell.

Taylor's prose is excellent, and she creates a vivid world with a huge amount of potential for stories in the future. We get glimpses of how the magic and lore of the world weave into daily life (the reveal of why metalweavers make effective surgeons is awesome). With the characters, the interaction and reveal of the relationships between Anya and Taran, and Anya and Eleira, do an excellent job of fleshing out each character without slowing down the plot.

And that plot moves like a damn rocket. The story is compact and lean, and works beautifully as a standalone. My only real criticism is that this is a small glimpse of a much bigger world that I wanted a lot more of, and I'm hoping Taylor continues to tell stories with these characters and this world.

(I received an ARC of this book, for an honest review)

While I read most genres of romance, it’s been a while since I’ve picked up some spooky mage romances. I have to say, Cameron Montague Taylor’s Silverweaver makes me want to load my e-reader with many more. Silverweaver is a beautifully written novella that captured me from the very first line, and I basically devoured the whole book in one sitting. Her characters might have powers well beyond the reach of unmagical folk, but they were very relatable as people. Anya, the main character, descends from a line of metalweavers. While she’s very talented, she struggles with family disapproval of her dropping out of medical school to work as a ghost hunter and, as a result, she doubts herself. I loved how the book wove her interactions with different people – her younger brother, her ex-girlfriend El who comes back to town, one of her ghost-hunting competitors – with the action surrounding the dilemma they found themselves in.

Most of the action takes place in a single location. I can’t imagine how challenging it must be to keep a story moving forward when the setting doesn’t change, but Cameron kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat the entire time. The sapphic second-chance romance focused on the emotional aspects of Anya’s and El’s interactions, and it grabbed onto my heart and didn’t let go as I rooted for them to reunite. The story was complete in the novella form, but I definitely wouldn’t object to seeing more of Anya and El in future stories in the Ilia Archives series. (Hint, hint.)

(I received an ARC for this book)

An intriguing plot, fun characters with depth and history—Silverweaver is a wonderfully-packed novella that kept me entertained. Though life got in the way of reading it in my planned weekend, the immediate fast action (and those cliffhangers which kept inciting me back) easily allowed me to pick it up once again and continue where I left off. Silverweaver works as a standalone, but certainly grabs attention with it's interesting worldbuilding, and now I can't wait for more instalments.

Since this is a first person narration, we are in Anya's head and her perspective for the entirety of the novella, and at times I think that hindered my enjoyment of the overall story. I would have loved to see more voiced/differing views from El and Anya's brother, and how they affect Anya in return. Additionally, the ending chapters felt a little rushed to me. I understand (and prefer) the author not wanting to drag out the story past it's welcome, but I couldn't help thinking longer 'aftermath' scenes of the main events would be more enjoyable.

Despite that, I came away with a positive experience with this short tale, and will buying a physical copy as soon as I'm able to annotate.

SPOOKY, SAPPHIC, SPECTACULAR.
The three S’s are front and center in this bite-sized spooky season read from Cee Taylor. Our main character, Anya, is everything an underdog should be - snarky, self conscious, and soft on the inside.

When Anya convinces her less-than-thrilled brother (sibling rivalry anyone??) to let her tag along on a ghost tour, she is faced with several horrors: another ghost hunting “spirit weaver” who is highly skeptical of her abilities, a more-than-she-bargained-for malevolent spirit, and (easily the most terrifying of all) her hyper-skilled, über talented, ex girlfriend.

This novella has all the ooky-spooky vibes: vengeful spirits, creepy old cemeteries, ultra-haunted churches, and a second chance romance to ramp up the anxiety.

Taylor’s writing style fits perfectly in this Victorian/Edwardian gaslamp fantasy world, and is just the right amount of modern to make her prose feel elegant while still easy to digest. Coupled with a unique and intricate magic system, this novella sets the stage with some incredible worldbuilding that will have you standing in this creepy old church right along with the MC.

If you’re looking for a quick read that will pack a huge punch and leave you yearning for more, you’re not going to want to miss this one.

Great book, but I read it wrong. I read it at my computer as a break between tasks.

Silverweaver deserves so much better.

This cozy spooky sapphic romantic fantasy should be be read curled up in a comfy chair and blanket, with a hot cocoa or hot milk flavored by hazelnut syrup, maybe a mulled cider or wine, wafting curling tentacles of steam and scent through the dark air, the only light in the room is the one spotlighting the book's open pages (or the eBook reader), shoes kicked to who knows where. Whether you are surrounded by holiday decorations during December, or the icy glow of the moon reflecting off the snow and into the window during January and February, take the time to appreciate the book.

Family relationships spar, leaving the deep cuts only family can give. Lovers grown apart by obligations and expectations of others, return together as they have aged enough to understand their true personal needs. Happy holiday goers explore the spooky landmarks of the big city. All these people are placed in danger when greed and avarice wakes something best left sleeping.

A short read at 113 pages, it's perfect for a winter night of snuggle and jump scares. Not quite a horror, Silverweaver walks on the spooky side of fantasy.

This was absolutely a fun afternoon read—unless you’re chasing after a toddler the majority of the time in which case it may take you two sittings instead of one. It immediately drew me in and kept me in by the second chapter. The world building is excellent, compelling and reminds me of a cross between Supernatural and The Legend of Korra. If you like ghost hunting, steampunk and elemental powers this is a great add to your collection. The dynamic between all the characters felt very natural and despite the short length of the novella I found myself really caring for some of the characters (El is precious). Anya and El’s second chance romance is absolutely adorable and very sweet. And the action as well as pacing for the first ten chapters was on point.

However, the final fight against the big baddie and the pique of the romance fell a little flat for me. It almost felt a little rushed and I found myself wishing they packed more of an emotional punch. If anything I just wanted more description/build-up particularly in the climax of the romance.

Other than that it was a wonderful reading experience and will absolutely recommend it to others.

I received an ARC of Silverweaver, and I enjoyed it! It's a quick little adventure with spooky magic, relatable characters, and a second-chance romance. Ghost- and demon-hunting isn't really my thing, but the magic system Taylor created for this world is super intriguing and leaves lots of room for cool twists that fit the logic we've been presented with. For example, . It's a novella, so things move fast, which for me was to this book's detriment on a few different counts. However, the characters charmed me enough to make up for it. They're fun to hang out with, and I empathized easily with their struggles to find themselves as young adults in the professional world.

I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest review of it.
This was a refreshing and fun, quick read. It's hard to develop feelings for the characters in a novella since there are so few pages, but I would definitely like to know what else happens in this world. It's a really interesting premise, and I genuinely hope I can come back to read more about what happens here. The only thing I missed was the high stakes/angst feeling. A lot of the "getting attached" to characters and to the world-building happens via the number of pages (and good writing, obviously). Since we don't have the extra pages, I feel I could have become more attached to the characters and the world if the stakes for the story were higher, but that's just personal opinion. I definitely recommend the read.

‘Whose heart wouldn’t be moved to wonder by a city of ghosts and memories?’

And it is indeed a wonderful world to be immersed in, built swiftly and smoothly through the story with just the right amount of detail to draw the reader in without bogging us down.

As soon as Anya, our narrator, asks her brother (in the very first paragraph) ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’, we know the worst must be on its way!

What follows is a neat and fun story, swift to read, with great characters, action and tension. The majority takes place in a single location over one unpleasant and dramatic night for our cast.

Anya is enormously relatable for anyone who has ever felt imposter syndrome or sibling rivalry, has disappointed their parents or been abandoned by a lover for their ambition.

I received and enjoyed an ARC of this novella for review.

Silverweaver is Cameron Montague Taylor’s first novella to introduce us to the land of Ilia. There is a lot of world building going on, but it is gracefully incorporated into the telling of the story, and the exposition of the main characters. The characters are relatable because they face the same societal and family pressures that we do, but in a completely different setting. It’s a big job for a little book.

Even as we’re presented with characters with completely familiar insecurities, failures, and judgments of each other based on incomplete information, their story carried us through a land with unfamiliar magic, customs, hierarchy, and supernatural rules. I ended up caring about the characters, but even more, wanting to hear more about this world. I expect I will continue to read each new offering in this series as it becomes available.

There was no reason I should like this book. I don’t do scary. Ghosts? Nope. Demons? Double Nope. I don’t do romance books. Characters stopping in the middle of action to wax poetic about how beautiful their love interest is? Blech. While I have nothing against the LGBT community, sapphic love stories just aren’t my thing. Despite all the odds, I loved this book.

It wasn’t about ghosts and demons. The main character just happens to be a ghost hunter. The demon just happens to be the hurdle the main character has to overcome. It wasn’t a sappy romance book with unrealistic portrayals of love and physical affection.

This quick read was immersive into a new gaslamp/steam punk world with magic characters who can “weave” different elements, including spirits of the dead. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

4.5/5 stars: This was my first time trying out any sort of cozy fantasy book and I have to say - this one really set the bar high. Silverweaver is fast-paced without sacrificing its emotional story, and I found myself genuinely connecting to the characters during the short read. The story is spooky and yet comforting - I can definitely see myself reaching for this one time and time again on a rainy day to enjoy this brief glimpse into Anya’s world. I’m really impressed by how the author was able to fit in a good amount of worldbuilding in the novella without sacrificing precious space, how they developed the characters, and still tied everything up in a satisfying and sweet ending.

Thank you for the eARC version in exchange for an honest review!! It was really a treat to get to read this book. :-)

I am now slightly obsessed with this book.

Right from the beginning this novella captured my attention and did not let it go. The amount of world building packed in is incredibly impressive but it never felt like being lectured, but I definitely want even more.

The internal conflict of the main character is as compelling as the external, spooky conflict and feels incredibly raw and realistic.

The vibes of this novella are also impeccable- I am so glad I got to read it right as the weather turned cool - it is the perfect autumnal read and I will definitely re-read it for October.

Thank you so much to the author for the ARC- I really hope there are more stories from this world in the future

A fantastic novella featuring ghosts, a sapphic relationship, family drama, and a fun magic system. I've never read a gaslamp fantasy with a sort of element type of magic system but it was a great introduction to this subgenre and can only expect to read more thrilling adventures from this series. I really liked the dynamic between the main character and her brother as this sibling rivalry felt grounded and reminded me a little of my relationship with my siblings and the romance was just so sweet. This is the perfect book to read if you want to read something magical but don't have the capacity or time to read a longer story.

I found this novella fascinating. Though it is set in a fantasy world, the descriptions reminded me so much of settings I’ve visited that made me feel I was there in the story. If you like gothic horror and fantasy, you will likely enjoy the vibe of this story.

I also found the magic system fascinating. The book is called Silverweaver because the main character is able to manipulate metal, including silver, in practical and artistic ways within seconds. There are also other weavers, including Spiritweavers who are able to commune with the spirits and help souls move into the afterlife. Many of them work as ghost hunters.

There are difficult family dynamics and a reunion between estranged intimate partners. CM Taylor packed so much into this world and this story. I can’t wait to continue within this world.

This book is perfect for anyone who was sad Lockwood & Co was not picked up for another season and would like to see it as an aged up, sapphic, second-chance romance story. It was such an enjoyable, quick read. Loved the ghost hunter vibes. The worldbuilding was very well done, feeling complex but understandable, and lived in. And all characters were complicated and conflicted. Both the external plot with the ghost hunting gone wrong and the conflicted relationships between characters were well developed and entertaining. Paranormal second chance romance.

In the land of Ilia, people have one of a few special powers where they "weave" an element. Those gifts also enhance certain sensitivities that make them better with their power. A young woman broke away from her familial expectations of working in the medical field to be a ghost hunter. The story is about one job she pushes her way into that gets way out of hand. The setup and execution of the plot were well done. The entity was quite scary, and the novella ended without a cliffhanger. It had potential for a series, but I didn't look into whether it was one or not. I'd definitely read it, though.

If you are looking for an amazing read full of action-packed adventure, with the angst of familial strife with sibling relationships and parental expectations, and that perfect touch of second chance romance, Silverweaver is the book for you. This Ilia Archives Novella is a quintessential read for the spooky season with a haunting that will have you turning pages wondering how Anya and company will manage to get themselves out of this predicament. I enjoyed every moment of this fast-paced novella and the ending is quite frankly one of the most satisfying I have read in a long time.

Wow! What a great, fun, spooky, sapphic read!

You never know what you’re going to get with a novella, because it’s so hard to fit everything into such a short word count, but Cameron Montague Taylor managed to weave a thrilling tale, enticing world-building, and characters with depth and history into a very short space. It was satisfying, but yet left me wanting so much more.

I really hope there will be more to come in this setting and with these characters in the future, because it was a fantastic read.

I did receive an ARC and am leaving an honest review.
