Snoopy neighbors on Millionaire's Row!

All the window peepers seem to be focused on one house. 👀

Four friends get buried in secrets and try to dig themselves out, but someone is two steps ahead of them.

YouTuber, Juniper Rose is obsessed with solving a cold case involving one of the residents, Geneva O'Connor. She has created True Crime Over Wine podcast and is posting videos and interviewing key players. She has landed an interview with Geneva's hubby, who has been questioned by police. She has started her own "suspect list" online and adds new suspects weekly. She always encourages viewers to smash the"like" button and share their own theories.

The ladies are jumpy and walking on eggshells, constantly looking over their shoulders, and desperately trying to keep their secrets from coming out.

There are some mouth hanging open moments, crazy juicy tidbits, and a killer twist that made this one a fun house of cards! One particular scene in the woods had me howling!

Love this author and this was another fun, point the finger at someone, girly girls, murdery mystery!

Enjoyed the audio narration from Zoe Mills the podcast was super fun / Thanks Libby/ Published on Sept 5, 2023

Frankie Crawford is a mom of six and a devoted wife. After the devastating loss of her friend, Geneva, she and her family have left the wealthy enclave of Sandbanks and relocated to London. Leaving, however, meant walking away from the two remaining women who knew her best. Nadine, the strong, logical lawyer who has kept them on the straight and narrow, and Zara, a chic doctor who has molded more than one aging face. Despite their close ties, however, their friendships begin to drift without the rock of Geneva to hold them together.

For Geneva’s husband, Elliot, however, moving on was not possible. After all, right from the start, as the public and the police looked for his wife’s killer, all eyes focused on him. But despite a police investigation and strong public sentiment of his guilt, he was never arrested, instead vanishing without a trace. Now, however, he’s back and he’s reappearance has thrown the women’s lives into turmoil.

Compounding Elliot’s reappearance is Zara’s mother’s death. Drawing the women back together in the glitzy beachside community, they find their meeting awkward and unrecognizable. Just the same, the secrets they hold bind them together just as Geneva foretold.

Only making matters worse, there’s a new face in town. Juniper Rose, a true crime YouTuber, has fastened her gaze on Geneva’s death as the subject of her next series. Surely with just a little bit of digging, she’ll be able to piece together what happened five years ago. As more facts come to the surface, her attention turns from the husband to Geneva’s three friends. It seems they have secrets that they’ve each been hiding. Secrets that could put them front and center in the hunt for Geneva’s killer.

As the truth begins to come to light and lives begin to crumble, one person is determined to keep their own secret buried. Geneva was anything but an innocent victim, and maybe her death was just the past coming due. Either way, however, someone in Sandbanks has something to hide. Something even worth killing for all over again.

A powerful trip into one truly toxic friend group, The Secrets We Buried was full of epic twists and turns that kept me guessing throughout. From the slow unwinding of their hidden secrets to the firestorm of a climax, my eyes were locked on the page from the very first word. What in particular did I love? Well, read on and all will be revealed…

The strongest piece of this book was easily the the friend group that took center stage. With three women who had plenty of dastardly secrets and a fourth willing to do whatever it took to keep them in line, they were spellbinding characters to say the least. Even better, we got to see each of them from their own perspective through the well-written multiple POVs. I do think one more POV would’ve cemented this plot into five star territory: that of the perpetrator behind it all. I can’t add much more or I’ll surely spoil the plot, but, needless to say, I’ve always loved a villainous narrator, so it would’ve been a great addition here.

Now onto that plot. A riveting mix of a slow burn first half that transformed into a jaw-dropping climax, I greedily gobbled up the pages. I especially loved the true crime YouTuber angle. With enticing transcripts woven into the storyline, they provided explosive reveals right, left, and center.

The only piece that bugged me was how melodramatic and overdone the last third felt. Stepping away from perfection, it felt decidedly over-the-top. So much so, in fact, that it actually took away from the book. Did it ruin it for me? Not in the least. But I did feel like the climax and conclusion could maybe have used done smoothing out.

As for those delicious twists and turns, they were whiplash inducing to be sure. Even better, they were all preceded by a brilliant cliffhanger at the end of each chapter, just begging for me to read just one more page. And every time that I thought I had figured it all out, a wholly mind-blowing revelation blew my guess straight out of the water. One after another, the story shifted and twisted until it was all laid brilliantly bare.

All said and done, most of this book was an utter home run. With a delectable Big Little Lies meets Desperate Housewives vibe, I was sucked in from the very first page. Full of calculating characters, shocking secrets, and one misdirection after another, the suspense was stretched out over much of the book, building and building until an epic explosion. I mean, there was even yet one more twist on the very last page. Leaving off with somewhat of a cliffhanger, this avid reader is just praying for a sequel. Either way, this novel is not one to be missed. Rating of 4 stars.

Most of the book was great, and then the last couple chapters were absolutely dumb. The conclusion was so unbelievable, it totally ruined the book.

Frankie, Nadene, Zara & Geneva are neighborhood friends. Geneva turns up dead and her hub, Elliott, disappears without being charged. But why, he must have done it, isn't it always the husband?

Juniper is a podcaster trying to get to the bottom of this 5 year old case.

I'm super duper nosy, so I liked reading all the secrets and there are plenty and guess who knew them all...Geneva. This was somewhat predictable and somewhat enjoyable. Meh with the final shebang, though.

Narration notes:
She did a great job. She provided proper emotion when needed.

It’s always unfortunate when a book starts slow, and has too many chapters that are indistinguishable. As it progressed, it did get more interesting for a bit, and then the twists got more and more absurd. The ending was bad enough to ruin the very few interesting bits it did have going for it.

What a bummer!

Zara, Natalie, Geneva and Frankie are all friends. Their backstabbing friend Geneva is murdered on the beach one night. Her husband Elliott is sent to prison for five years for her murder. He is released and podcaster Juniper Rose looks into his case. A hornets nest is stirred up and lies and secretes are revealed. This was an awesome read with enough twists and turns to give whiplash. Thanks Embla Books and NetGalley for this ARC that will be released September 5, 2023!

This book seemed to have so much potential but fell completely flat! 4 friends one dies and 5 years later a podcast is started about who killed Geneva. Geneva had dirt on every one of her friends and held it over all of them which made them all suspects along with her husband Elliot that was having an affair with her friend Zara. All truly unlikeable characters and none of them trust or like each other as friends. Turns out the murderer was someone Geneva was mean to in high school - here’s where it all went wrong for me. The girl was years younger so doing the math at least grade 9 and she supposedly had a rose tattoo at that age that was the tell tale sign that she was the killer 🙄 almost DNF but I skimmed to the end

Friends Frankie, Zara, Nadine and Geneva were close until Geneva was found dead on the beach.

Podcaster Jupiter Rose is investigating this murder on the 5th anniversary of her death.

The story is told with alternative chapters from the friends perspectives.

Who can you trust? All the friends seem to have secrets. But how far would they go to keep their secrets buried!!

I would highly recommend this book, be warned you might read it in one sitting.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I...did not like this. The writing didn't jive with me at all. The sentences felt like someone just listing facts out over and over. It didn't flow together and it was a masterclass in telling, not showing. I don't want to sound harsh but I don't think there was a single situation, personality trait, relationship etc. that was shown to me in a believable way.

Sometimes an author gets so caught up on wanting a SURPRISE TWIST that they fail to understand that the twist is only good if it makes sense. This one came out of left field and absolutely did not make sense, and I am actually pretty mad about it.

I digested this book in one sitting because I love a good 'whodunnit' especially when it centres around a friendship group! We have four friends who one of them dies (Geneva) and the blame seems to lie within the other 3 women in the group who all had secrets and a reason to want to kill their friend Geneva.
There was so many 'omg' moments that I really loved and I was heading towards a 4.5 star rating, until the last remaining chapters of the book. I love me some nonsensical twists/ endings, but this one took the complete mick and frankly didn't make any sense! I'm so gutted as I really did enjoy the book up until the last 5%.
I also liked the podcasts/ transcript style the book had.

If you love Desperate Housewives' and PLL then this book is for you!

This was a good book but I was a bit underwhelmed with the final twist. I did enjoy the premise and the way the story unfolded. I did like that we couldn't really trust any character and they were all a little sus.
Overall good read but not amazing for me.

The perfect neighbourhood. The perfect friends. The perfect murder.

When Frankie moved into her new home, it was a dream come true. Living on one of the most exclusive streets in the country, where gleaming white houses looked out over golden sand and deep blue ocean. Nothing bad could have followed her there.

Her new neighbours -Zara, Nadine and Geneva- soon took her under their wing. The four women became inseparable. Until the morning when Geneva's body was found on the beach.

Suspicion was immediately cast on Geneva's husband. But when the police didn't charge him, he vanished without trace. Now, five years later, he's back.

Soon no one is beyond suspicion. Dark secrets that have been hiding behind closed doors begin to be revealed, with devastating consequences.

What really happened the night Geneva died? And how far will they all go to make sure their own secrets stay buried?

🤔🧐🤯MY THOUGHTS:🤯🧐🤔
I am 2 for 2 so far this year! This book was insanely good. A fairly new author and definitely new to me, gives us a book with an unexpected twist at the end. Mystery and intrigue are ample and trying to figure out the who… had me guessing almost to the very end. This was a great page turner I won’t be forgetting soon!

Only read it because it was free on kindle. This book was not for me. Very modern. Basically expected the ending but then another twist at the end made it not realistic. It read like a Netflix drama. Easy read but the dialogue made me cringe. Not worth the read.

Geneva was a b list celeb as an actress on a soap, she was murdered 5 years ago, her body discovered on the beach. Her three best friends Zara , nadine and Frankie all have secrets they thought were buried with Geneva. However here comes Juniper who has created a YouTube channel “true crime with wine” and she’s determined to solve the case. As the episodes are broadcast the list of suspects grows and the three best friends become increasingly distressed.

Lots of secrets, lies galore and mini reveals

Ended up skimming a large part of this.

Three best friends ( who are horrible to each other) get together for weekly Wine Club, until one night one of them is killed. Dun dun duuuunnnn…..
Frankie — has five kids, married to Mike. Moved away from Millionaire’s Row(dumb name) after Geneva died.
Nadine — no nonsense lawyer
Zara — having an affair with Geneva’s husband
Geneva — horrible person not sure why anyone would be friends with her? She was murdered five years ago. Everyone blamed Elliott.
Elliott — Geneva’s husband. Having affair with Zara.
Juniper — in relationship with Elliott. Has successful podcast about Geneva’s cold case.

Geneva had secrets about everyone.
Frankie took a paternity test and found out her oldest daughter, Callie, is not Mike’s. She was r@ped shortly after they were married and she never told Mike. (WHY?!)
Nadine was swindling her clients and embezzling money.
Zara was having an affair with Geneva’s husband. There might have been something else — I don’t remember.

Geneva is found on the beach after Wine Club. Someone took a picture of Frankie, Zara and Nadine all standing around Geneva’s body. The police find out (five years later?!) that Frankie had texted Geneva to meet her at the beach.

Spoiler : Geneva bullied Juniper in high school. Juniper made it her goal to look like and act like Geneva and get Elliott to fall in love with her. Five years ago she enlists Callie, who hates Geneva because she’s blackmailing her mom about the paternity test. Juniper and Callie go to the beach and Juniper kills Geneva.
BUT SPOILER— it was Callie’s plan all along.

When Geneva turns up dead on the beach, her three friends vow to keep their secrets in tact and buried with her. But five years later, wannabe You-Tuber and true crime documentary maker, Juniper Rose, turns up vowing to get to the truth. It’s always the husband. Everyone thinks so, even his best friend. But Juniper believes he is innocent, and seems hell bent on finding the real killer…

Oh. My. Gosh. I was NOT expecting that!!! What a page turner! I binged this book in a day and a half and enjoyed every moment.
I couldn’t wait for the next You Tube episode and genuinely felt like I was watching it, rather than reading it. I had absolutely no idea who the perpetrator was, and that twist at the end… wow! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Someone please make this in to a film!

Would give it 6 stars if I could and would 100% read from this author again.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Embla books for my advanced copy.

This is a gripping physiological thriller which is told from the pov of strong female characters. It centres on the unsolved murder of Geneva

I love yhe narrator and the novel idea of a youtube video detective looking to solve the crime by lookkng at thise close. The husband who was tried by public opinion and has been tormented for years but never arrested and her 3 friends. Whi saw her on her last night and each has a secret shecwas threatening to reveal
The narrator deals with some tough issuses including eating disorders . The cgaracterscare multilayered. The first half of the act sets the history and the pacing is a little off and its the chapters from the youtube thst build thd tention. You do feel rhe tentiom in act 2 portrayed by the emotion of the narrator . Its then full of actions twists and turns. The end act hiwever with the final reveal left ne a little flat as i felt it just set the dcene for a sequel.
This was hiwever a good quiick listen with a modern take on a who done in. Throughtly enjoyable lost it self a litle and the ending fidnt resolve my questions. Sequel needed.
That you netgallery and publisher and author and narrator for a solid 4 star listen.

Frankie, Zara, Nadine and Geneva are four friends who all live on the plush Millionaires Row in Sandbanks. When Geneva is found dead on the beach one morning, everyone quickly assumes it's her husband Elliott that's responsible, the police can find no evidence but with the public still treating him as a suspect he leaves town. Frankie also decides to leave to start a new life with her husband Mike and their children. Now, five years later, Frankie returns for the funeral of Zara's mum and they rekindle their friendship, but the return of Elliott also stirs up some memories for the friends. True crime YouTuber, Juniper Rose, who is trying to clear Elliott's name by looking into Geneva's death, brings suspicion upon all three of them, uncovering dark secrets that they've been trying to hide for the last five years, but where is she getting her info from, and who really murdered Geneva?

The Secrets We Buried is a gripping tale told from multiple perspectives across a dual timeline; the present day and five years earlier with the events leading up to the untimely death of Geneva, it starts off quite slow with the author building up a picture of each of the characters within the chapters and then the YouTube video transcripts entwined intermittently through the story. It's a dark and suspenseful tale with twists and secrets galore, keeping the reader guessing throughout as to who the real perpetrator is, everyone at some point had the finger pointed in their direction, well almost everyone, because the real twist came right at the end, I was not expecting that! A great read from a new to me author, whose work I look forward to reading more of in the future.

I'd like to thank Embla Books and Netgalley for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

This book was a good read, I liked the podcast style of this and how the podcaster was delving into an unsolved murder case and interviewing people who were associated with Geneva, and how everything unravels as the podcaster delves further in.
There were enough twists to keep me interested and the storyline was great. I didn't have a clue "whodunit". The ending left me gobsmacked.
I would recommend it.
