From award-winning author Tara Wyatt comes a sexy contemporary standalone romance set during a steamy Boston summer.

If smartass carpenter Adam Hennessey hadn't stood up Charlie Grant over a year ago, he might not find himself on the other side of a slammed door. But when Adam volunteers to repair Charlie's deck as a favor to a friend, that's exactly where he finds himself. Does he regret standing her up? Yes. Does he find the cynical, sarcastic sports journalist unbearably sexy? Also yes. Does she hate his guts? All the yes.

Charlie's not the forgiving type, especially after a broken heart in the past has left her jaded, but she can't deny that Adam, with his beard, tattoos and panty-melting smile (oh, and muscles--can't forget to mention the muscles) might just be winning her over. With a second chance on the line, Charlie will have to decide if getting nailed by the smoking hot carpenter is worth the risk.

This is a steamy enemies-to-lovers second chance story that'll make you laugh, make you sigh, and make you turn the pages as fast as you can!

Short and Sweet

These two made me laugh. Although the story was short I was invested quickly and was rooting for their HEA. Really enjoyed it!

4.5 out of 5

Another one I read a while ago and didn’t review. In fact I’ve read it twice, the second time just recently. I wasn’t far into it the second time when I realized I’d already read it but since I enjoyed it the first time and was in the mood for something light, I kept going.

Charlie Grant is angry. Her neighbour was backing up and mistook the brakes for the gas pedal and pretty much took out her back deck. Luckily one of his good friends is a carpenter and does this kind of thin. At this point Charlie gets more than angry. The carpenter in question, Adam Hennesy turns out to be someone she knows; someone she is most annoyed with.

Both Charlie and Adam had signed up at the same online dating site and connected with each other. Right off the bat each thought the other was someone they could develop an arrangement with and they planned to meet in person. But then Adam had cold feet and didn’t show. He didn’t call, he didn’t write and his profile went down. Charlie was beyond disappointed. And now he’s back in her life and she doesn’t want him there. She was very hurt by his actions

But Adam had a reason and while, yes, he should have called her, that was rude and I don’t blame her at all for being pissed, but when they connected online, he had just come off a divorce and while it was fairly amicable, he still needed time to heal and get past his failure. And he knew that there was already a powerful pull between them. But now that she is back in his orbit, he decides it’s their time now and he’s determined to make this second chance work. Just as she’s determined that it won’t. He already had his chance and he blew it.

This book is such a treat. I love blue collar heroes and Adam is pretty near perfect. And Charlie makes for a strong heroine who know her worth. This is the second book I’ve read by Tara Wyatt and I am most impressed. And just to appease the shallow in me, nice cover, yes, nice, nice cover. I just wish some of her lengthier books that are published by big publishers weren’t so darned expensive. But she has a number of self-published books so they should keep me going for a while.

3,5 stars. Perfect beach read!

This is a short fun read. Charlie and Adam met at a dating app and he finally asked her out after weeks of messaging. We’ve all been there once, you have a connection with a guy, you plan a date and it goes all down the drain. In Charlie and Adam’s case he doesn’t show up, deletes his dating profile and basically ghosts her. They meet 6 months later by accident, when Adam’s best friend (and Charlie’s neighbor) accidentally crashed her porch and promised Adam would fix it. She resents him at first, but Adam is eager to fight for a second change. The story ends with a HFN ending.

Safe read. Adam and Charlie both have a past. Adam is divorced for a year and it was nice to read for a change that there was no cheating or whatsoever involved. They’ve been together for 10 years until they grew apart and fallen out of love. Still painful, but these things happen. He dated after his divorce, kissed a few women, but no mention of him having sex with them. Charlie was left by her fiancé the day before her wedding and she’s not willing to open her heart so easily again. No cheating between the MC’s (Charlie was cheated on by her ex-fiancé, off page). No OW/OM drama or sex with OP.

"She was still standing, but she wasn’t the same. It was as though her broken pieces had been reassembled slightly off-center, some of the cracks still visible."

I usually shy away from whats considered novellas unless they are useful in a series I'm reading or starting. Most authors can't seem to take a new couple with a new story and create a fulfilling and complete story in so little page space. Imagine my surprise when I finished this one from Tara Wyatt. This is my first read by her and it definitely persuaded me to check out if she had anything else I could devour.

Told in a POV that was fairly foreign to me (like 3rd person but from each lead's perspective), this novella is about second chances and opening up to love even if its completely broken you in the past. It is short but don't worry, Tara was able to bring a story to life and make it feel like a full length novel....but with an ending that promises HEA yet leaves it open for any follow-ups in the future.

"Because liking led to loving, and loving led to losing, and she couldn’t do that again. She wouldn’t."

After going through a divorce, Adam hasn't really felt ready to totally put himself out there....especially after the disaster he caused when he stood the woman who caught his interest on the dating site so many months ago. But when his best friend calls in a favor, to fix some damage on a neighbor's house that he caused, Adam comes face to face with the very woman that had him running scared all those month's ago. Things are different now and hes ready to prove that he isn't the same man he was.....if only the woman standing in front of him wasn't determined to get him off her property for good.

"And it was fine with him, because he didn’t want money. No, he wanted something better. A second chance."

Charlie is jaded, left by her fiance the day before their big day. She isn't in the market for love, she won't risk getting hurt again. But when her past online crush shows up to fix her deck and ask for forgiveness and another chance, she finds that its harder to get her body and mind to agree.

Can these two find love a second time? Or are they both too scared to put their hearts on the line again? This story does end with a HFN ending, giving the reader the opportunity to imagine their own HEA long term.

“I’ll curl your toes and make you an omelet in the morning. Can’t beat that.”

Overall, this was a great intro for me to this author. It was the perfect break I needed between the dark and heavy full length novels I am used to losing myself in. It was well written and perfectly paced. Most importantly, it is able to tell a full novel-size romance in a novella-size package and still be able to make it connectable and relatable. Im a fan for sure!

What had possessed me to pick up this second chance romance, I used that term loosely, I don't have a clue. It was a fast paced romance that left me feeling nothing. Nothing people, nothing. A barely there plot, boring characters and lackluster romance is was I left with at the end and needless to say, it was mediocre at best. And that's pushing it. Overall, I was left with a forgetful read that'll be long and forgotten before you know it.

When second chances come unexpectedly, do you see it as a sign to correct the mistake or just move on? Adam and Charlie 'meet' and have this chemistry, but things don't work out, and connections are severed. They "move on" but only to have that opportunity happen in an unlikely occasion.

Adam and Charlie's story was pretty cute. I enjoyed their banter, their chemistry, their tension, their build to what could be a fantastic relationship. I enjoyed Adam's inner thoughts, his remorse for the first screw up, his drive to get her to realize how great they are together. This was an easy quick read. I enjoyed their story very much.

Can it only ever just be sex?

Nailed is the first book that I have read by Tara Wyatt so I was not sure what to expect. But the description looked like it could be a lot of fun and it was as a short story so I figured I would give it a try. I am happy that I did read this cute romance between Adam and Charlie.

Charlie, a young woman, lives in the Boston area and is a sports writer for the local paper. A year ago her fiance left her the day before the wedding because he was in love with someone who can do the "womanly stuff" that she can't. Can we all say Chauvinist together please!!!

Adam owns a building company and was divorced a year ago after they were together for 10 years, 4 married.

Charlie and Adam first have a "relationship" through an online dating site. They spend time messaging each other and really enjoying themselves. One night Adam asks to meet and Charlie says yes. When the time comes Charlie shows up but Adam does not. He then ghosts her and finally deletes his profile. Can we all say JERK really loud please!!!
Anyway, they end up meeting in person finally six months later because Jared, Adam's best friend and Charlie's next door neighbor, drives his jeep through her fence and takes out her back porch. Jared of course asks Adam to fix it and so the story begins. They both have trust issues and must learn to open up to each other, but can they?

This short romance story is basically a second chance on a first date.
She was looking forward to their first date only to be let down. Her concession to her misbehaving attitude is how long it took him to realize his mistake. But this sassy woman is not about to give in to easy. It gets harder and harder to resist eventually she notices that resisting is not the only thing that is hard.

SEcond chance for Adam. Adam got a little scared when he was supposed to go out with Charlie on a date and he stupidly stood her up, not he is supposed to help his friend Jared by helping him fix the deck that Jared messed up but when Charlie sees him she did what I would have done slammed the door in his face..The book was cute my only issue it was too short..Enjoy!

Adam and Charlie met online, where Adam was a jerk. In real life, he's someone to swoon over, and more than makes up for his past. Charlie is one tough lady, and exactly what he needs! This is my first book from this author, but it won't be my last!

This was the first book of Ms. Wyatt’s that I have read and I really enjoyed it. It was a quick second chance romance that will leave you smiling when you are finished. Adam wronged Charlie in the past by standing her up for a date because he was scared and he was brought back into her life because of his friend, Jared. Charlie never wanted to see Adam again but because he was helping rebuild the deck that Jared destroyed by accident he was brought back in her life. The attraction between them was there but when it got to real, she got scared. It was a fun story and anyone who has picked this up, you won’t be disappointed.

The cover beckoned me and the blurb. This is a rather short novella, but also complete and steamy.

Charlie and Adam meet online through a dating site and hit it off. But when they decide to meet, Adam never shows and ghosts Charlie. Six months later they meet again, when Adam wants to repair her damaged porch and angry sparks fly.

Short, hot and sexy. Good read.

Really enjoyed this book. He wronged her in the past. Now he gets to see the result. It was redemption time for him and he knew it. She was very upset with him and let him know it. It helps that they let some things go and were civil to each other. You can't hang on to the past if you want to move forward. She needed to do that for herself.

This book was short, but not short on awesomeness.

Charlie has been hurt in the past and she’s cautious about opening up her heart to someone again. Being practically left at the altar could definitely do that to a person.

Adam is incredibly sexy and although he’s also had troubles with love in the past it doesn’t stop him from taking a chance again, and he tries really hard to win Charlie’s heart. Who could blame him, she sounds adorable!

This book was fun and sexy and was a nice quick, make me smile, read. Nothing but good things in this story.

3🌟

I was instantly attracted by this steamy cover, so when author offered me an ARC I wanted to read it! The first thing that surprised me was the section CONTENTS where I saw how short this book is.

This was a very short and enjoyable read. Perfect epitome of Summer reads. It partly contains friends to lovers and enemies to lovers tropes, which you will find about in the beginning. But it’s definitely a second chance romance novel.

The story follows Charlie and Adam, who accidentally meet (but they sorta “know” each other). The attraction is instant and the sparks are there, but I haven’t quite felt it. I had a bit of issue with their past. Both of them have been hurt but they think their connection is worth the try.

There’s a lot of steamy moments! Adam is one sexy, bearded, tattooed stud. And Charlie is witty, freckled, not your ordinary kind of girl.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this one. If you’re in a need of a quick, second chance steamy romance novel then grab this one.

Adam gets a phone call from his best friend of 30 years Jared he tells Adam that he’s had an accident he was reversing into his yard when he accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes and he drove into his neighbours yard causing damage and Jared said that the dragon lady went off and then she threw a pot plant at his head which made Adam laugh but Jared said that he panicked and he offered Adam to fix the damage which stopped Adam laughing he couldn’t believe it his friend is a bad driver and he needs to stay off the road. Charlie is staring at her computer she has taken over the Red Sox column for the Boston Globe but she is stuck on what to write, every week she has to prove herself especially because she’s a woman who’s 28 and has very limited experience. Her editor wants her to write an article on women’s interests but Charlie knocked it back she doesn’t care about any of that it just wasn’t her, Charlie always knew that she wanted to be a sports journalist not some Betty homemaker it just isn’t the kind of person that Charlie is. Charlie’s front door bell was going off then someone was knocking on her door she had a look through the peephole and her heart nearly went into her throat it was Adam, Adam who she met on-line and she was crushing bad on him but 6 months ago he asked her to meet him at a bakery but he didn’t show up and his profile disappeared and she never heard from him again but now he is standing at her door and Charlie didn’t know wether to kiss him or rip him to pieces. Adam was shocked when Charlie answered the door he said that he’s sorry and that he owes her an explanation but Charlie didn’t want anything to do with it and she slammed the door in his face. I loved this story it’s funny and heartwarming I couldn’t put it down I was so engrossed in this story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Adam's friend plows into his neighbors yard taking out the fence and her deck. He calls Adam to help bail him out of trouble by getting him to agree to fix it for free for him. Charlie is stunned when she opens her door to see Adam the man she talked to online about intimate things and made plans to meet however he stood her up. He didn't even answer her messages. He thought he friend was joking about her throwing things at him until he was on the receiving end. Before she started he saw the hurt in her eyes so he knew he needed to fix things between them. Can Adam explain why he didn't meet with her? Will Charlie give him another chance?

This is hilarious and will draw you into their antics from the get go. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Holy crap this book was a can't put down.
Charlie is in a slump at work and in romance. When her neighbor drives through her fence and send his friend to fix it she is not having it.
When Adam see the woman on the other side of the door he knows he is in deep trouble, however if van just get her to talk to him things maybe ok.

This was a fast paced book friends to enemies to lovers. I loved it

I love how witty the banter is between Charlie and Adam. They are a match in the book, both adde scared abd have been through heartbreak in different forms but similar. They both were scared and afraid in different times of their relationship. But understanding and love for the future with each other prevailed.
