Review : This is the second book of the trilogy, so if you haven't read the first book yet, you should. As it's a direct continuation of the first book.
But in this book the author takes us on the journey of Kaal, how he becomes what hes is now. From the very beginning, from the ancient time, 600 BCE , how it all started. First 30% of the book is the tales from the past , then we came back to the present day and what happened right after the first book. But after this point we follow the two timelines of what happened in the past, the journey of Kaal, as well as what is happening currently. But the main focus in the story is Kaal.
Just like the first book this is also a page turner and thrilling book with folklore, myths, science, history with some current situation sprinkles in it. And it did not make the story jumbled but somehow interesting, intriguing.
And I somehow like this book more than the first book and the book doesn't suffer from the second book syndrome at all. Yes at times it felt slow, feels like the scene going on, but it never loses the tension and thrill that you couldn't even skip it.
So there's nothing I have that much complaint with this book except some little things, which I don't want to mention and spoil. But would definitely going to recommend if you're looking for some good mythological sci-fi mix fantasy. It's an ongoing one and you can easily catch up before the next book comes up.
With Shaurya's transformation an exciting mystery that keeps readers on edge, the modern setting adds a surprising twist. The connection to Kaal's abilities gives the plot an air of mysticism. The book expertly examines how fate, mythology, and human decisions are intertwined and provides readers with a deep, immersive experience. It is a superb move that smoothly combines fact and fantasy when Kaal's genesis tale is revealed in The Protected Rakshasa.
It is extremely impressive how the author managed to weave a complex story that connected the past and present while yet maintaining a sense of intrigue. With its provocative ideas, likeable characters, and deft narrative, "The Protected Rakshasa KAAL" captivates the audience.
The storyline is intriguing. Scenes have been described by the author in a well-paced manner. The storyline advances in a quick-paced manner. The author's imagination is an impeccable force behind the narrative. The author does an amazing job of putting that imagination into action.
The book has clear language throughout. The book has a gripping writing style. The book's cover has a captivating design. The book's title has an intriguing wording.
I liked reading the book since it was different to read.
It is a captivating addition to the KAAVACH trilogy, marked by its intricate storytelling, well-rounded characters, and skillful blending of historical India and contemporary society.
One of the standout features of this novel is its expertly woven narrative that seamlessly transitions between two distinct time periods – historic India and the present day. This interplay between past and present not only adds depth to the story but also keeps readers engaged as they follow the enigmatic orphan's journey from a humble beginning with a family of potters to becoming a scholar at the prestigious Mahant Ashram. This historical context serves as a rich backdrop to the modern introduction of the most powerful person on Earth, Shaurya, whose connection to Kaal's history unveils an enticing mystery.
The characters are another highlight. The protagonist's transformation from a vulnerable child to a learned scholar and warrior is a testament to the author's adeptness at character development. This evolution is intricately depicted, making the character relatable and endearing.
The modern characters, particularly Shaurya, are equally intriguing, adding depth and complexity to the narrative. While some characters could benefit from more in-depth development, they collectively contribute to the story's richness.
The author's writing style deserves praise for its seamless transitions between past and present narratives. His vivid descriptions of the settings immerse readers in the story's universe, maintaining a consistent and captivating tone throughout. The author's ability to blend ancient legends with modern thrills enhances the overall reading experience, making it engrossing and intellectually stimulating.
The thematic exploration in the book is thought-provoking. It delves into the theme of power and its impact on individuals, examining the choices people make in their pursuit of ambition and the responsibilities that come with great authority. The story also touches on deeper themes of destiny, self-actualization, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.
It leaves a lasting impact on its readers, prompting contemplation on the intricacies of human nature, the consequences of one's decisions, and the interplay between fate and free will. The enigmatic journey of Kaal into The Protected Rakshasa piques readers' curiosity, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated conclusion to the KAAVACH trilogy.
In conclusion, for those who relish a blend of mythology, mystery, and contemporary intrigue, it is an essential read. Pranay Bhalerao showcases his storytelling prowess in this compelling and thought-provoking work, foreshadowing an intriguing conclusion to the series. It's a book that offers a unique and engaging reading experience, leaving readers eagerly awaiting the trilogy's final installment.
I remember reading around 3-4 books written by Pranay last year in 2022 and I was surprised with his scale of imagination while creating a universe in which he weaves his stories. The latest book I read by him was the 1st part of a new trilogy (“Kavaach Trilogy”) he had introduced reading which I was amazed by the world he had created. The series became promising with the 1st book itself and I am glad that within a year, Pranay has managed to draft the 2nd book and released the same recently. This 362-pages book is named “Kaal: The Protected Rakshasa” which is typically based on one of the two prominent characters of the book – Kaal.
Even though the book is part of a series and the last book was read by me a year back, the way Pranay has given start to this book makes the reader comfortable without getting confused with the multiple groups and characters. Just as we read the life of Krishna separately apart from his massive involvement in Mahabharata, author has given almost the same touch to the story of Kaal where we get to read about his whole life right from his birth to a phase where he finally gets involved in the Kavaach saga. I am surprised with respect to how Pranay made it possible to make it an easy-read without even giving a brief of what happened in the 1st book as a recap or something. This tells about the writing prowess he holds.
Pranay has managed to give a great shape to the development of Kaal’s character where he is a very innocent boy in childhood – then gets into a training module where he starts analyzing about the extra-ordinary events happening with him – later, as a lover boy who starts getting involved in a relationship fearlessly – as an intellectual youth - and finally into a warrior who is ready to take on anyone. The story around all these events progresses smoothly making us enjoy each of the phases and rooting for Kaal – even at the instances where we know he is not completely right.
His chemistry with his parents in his childhood is very nicely projected which shapes up his future regarding how and why he turns so evil over a period of time. His life in ashram is portrayed along with other themes of nepotism, favoritism and the struggle one has to go through when one tries to push himself up in the status ladder created by the society. I liked how Pranay was able to describe the whole tantric and other mantra-level hawans etc. very clearly that as a reader, we can imagine how the whole ceremonies are being carried out. A book that belongs to a genre where the ancient Indian history or mythology is touched upon needs description of such processes widely so that readers are aware of all that goes into developing a culture which is so vast and popular. Pranay just utilizes this specialty well and doesn’t leave a chance anywhere of not making us go through such events deeply.
Like the 1st book, even here the story keeps moving to and fro in two different eras- the ancient 600 BC and the modern world. Yet again, author has been able to make the transition happen very organically without making it sound complex and difficult. He has been successful in implementing this form of story-telling where there is link between two different time-periods and how to shuffle between both of them in order to narrate the happenings. It generally sounds as if both the stories are happening parallelly which makes it exciting and mysterious for the reader to know about both the worlds and its respective characters at every point of time.
In the 1st book, I had felt that Pranay has narrated the story as if it’s a pitch for a screenplay adaptation rather than a novel. Thankfully, this time Pranay has drafted the story well where it gives the literary feeling in every sentence. Similarly, there weren’t much philosophical aspect in the 1st part whereas this time, he has been able to provide such insights in between wherever there was a scope to describe any response with the element of life.
Personally, talking about few scenes – I liked the chemistry between Kaal and Nandini a lot. I liked the whole relationship arc of Kaal and King Nandak. I liked the last confrontational scene between him, King and the secretary. All those moments where the dark figures keep returning back to Kaal are nicely planned in the story. It gives a great push to the story – the twists and turns just after that makes the book reach another level. The insecurity of Adhiram and Radha throughout the story regarding losing their son hits the emotional nerves every time they have a conversation between themselves.
Not taking anything away from the other characters, Rudra is given enough scenes in this book as well in the present timeline. What happens after all the devastation (mentioned in 1st book) is discussed and his chemistry with his folks and realization of his superpowers keeps up the excitement in the story. I am excited to know how Rudra is going to rule over the next parts of this series. Similarly, Shaurya, his group and his world are also discussed regularly to build the base for the clash that’ll happen in the present timeline – somewhere in the next book.
Overall, the book is a perfect page-turner. Pranay is a brilliant story-teller who knows how to keep you hooked. He is capable of converting a complex storyline into a smooth-read with his writing abilities. I gave the 1st book 4.25*; as this one is a notch better than it; I will give 4.5* to Kaal – the 2nd book in the series. And now I wait for the conclusion to be released as soon as possible.

Pranay Bhalerao did wonders with the second book in the KAVAACH trilogy. After the first book, THE PROTECTORS OF THE KAVAACH, every reader, including myself was left wondering about KAAL. KAAL might have been a rakshasa in name, but he was so loyally guarded by his kind and so devoted to his creators that it made questions arise. Was Kaal really as evil as portrayed to be?
The second instalment gave us an understanding of KAAL and his origins.
It began with a very detailed description in 650 BCE in Avantika Nagari, also known to modern-day as Ujjain. There we got to witness a holy ritual performed by an AGHORI SAGE that granted him immorality. The descriptions of the city are so beautifully constructed that they teleport you right there. Even when the process of Shav-Sadhna was explained, the eerie illustration gave even more life to the story.
The story proceeds as we witness the Gondwana Empire in 622 BCE in modern-day Madhya Pradesh. Zonta and Sutra’s friendship was one of a kind and so was the relationship between Sutra and Agni.
As the story goes on, the plot thickens. On every page, there are incidents you do not expect to happen. The title first makes sense when we learn about the re-birth of the Aghori sage in the form of Agni and Sutra’s son.
We move forward seamlessly switching between timelines of ancient history and the present day. The connections are depicted so well that every time a mystery unravelled, it had my jaw on the floor. Several characters are introduced who play some or the other part in KAAL’s story, taking the profundity of the story to another level.
Once again, the book ends on a cliffhanger leaving the readers salivating for yet another book. This book is sure to be once in a lifetime experience for the readers who inhale and exhale in mythological fiction.
Mystery, faith and religion come together in this beautiful piece of fantasy🤌
•• INSIGHT: Pranay Bhalerao's "The Protected Rakshasa KAAL" is a mix between fantasy and reality and a mind boggling addition to the KAAVACH trilogy. It not only is an eye opener towards redefining evil and good, it also manages to change perspectives of its readers towards what the contemporary society would term as ungodly. Toggling between history and modern society, the tale talks about an orphan taken in by a poor family of potters, and then narrates the journey of his wisdom and psychological growth. It also shows us the other side of rakshasas, as described by our scriptures, on what and why they became what they are known as. The effect of power and karma is well narrated and is quite elaborately described in the story.
••REVIEW: The author has done a great job in combining research with fantasy. It is well understood that Pranay is a person with deep faith guiding his thoughts, and his art of developing multi- faceted characters is quite exposed in the narrative. The story is in-depth, excellent in language and opens a well-built pathway and interest for its next edition.
••Favourite Line: “ When you have to choose one path out of one right sand one wrong, the choice is easy. But when life throws a situation at you where you need to decide the convenient path out of two rights and two wrongs will be Dharma and Adharma for you.”
••STRENGTH: There is a lot of history and in-depth understanding of storylines that is well communicated between the reader and the author. Not for once will the narrative feel boring or exaggerated to its readers
••WEAKNESS: Might not be a good pick for those looking for simple reads, needs quite a whole lot of perspective and interest in this genre
This an outstanding book for anyone keen in reading a mythological tale with a spin of urban fiction to it.

The book Starts with the City of Mahakaleshwar - Ujjain where Aghori is performing Sav Sadhna. The narration of that particular scene is enough to send chills. And the story turns again in two timeline narrations- one many centuries earlier and the other in current time. ✨ While the past timeline narrates the Story of Aghori and a boy- Kaal, the current story timeline takes you to many cities of India starting from Shivgarh where Rudra meets Tanya and starts his Quest to complete the prophecy. While in Banaras Shaurya also sets his plan into motion for getting to the secret of immortality.
The book has narration of Cult practices, suspense, quest, a mystery to solve, Vedic Mantras, scriptures, taking you to the lost city of Dwarka, banaras, Ujjain, kurukshetra and many more. This is again a fight of Good to overcome the Evil powers and Save the World. ✨ Keeping the concept of Narayana and Nara at the centre of Story and Karna's protective Kavach mentioned in the Tales of Mahabharat, this is yet another Mythological fictional Story that is gonna give you that adrenaline rush if you also love reading this Genre.

This is indeed a captivating journey, and the comprehensive exploration certainly fills in the gaps and provides a richer understanding of the character and motivations, digging into some of the questions that were raised previously.
Ambition, when unchecked and driven solely by personal gain, can blind the individuals to ethical boundaries, and has the potential to lead to one's downfall owing to risky decision making, and same can be seen as the story begins with introduction of how this need of an Aghori to become immortal seemingly was the kickstarter.
Building upon the foundation laid the previous book, this not only continues the story but also enhances it, allowing readers to witness the evolution of the characters and the unfolding of the plot in a more profound and satisfying way. It's an exciting continuation that kept me engaged, hence I am going to give this FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As an ardent reader of books, it feels like a quest when I read mythological fiction. This book is nothing short of such an epic journey. A journey, that started with the Mahants passionately protecting Karna’s Kavaach(armour), now takes us further as we delve some more into the origins of Kaal!
As the author deftly intertwines ancient chronology with technology from the present times, the reader is bound to be hooked from the beginning.
