A bullet rips through me, and I fall to the ground. Blood seeps out of the wound, and the light in my eyes begins to fade. I muster up her image, my beautiful wife, smiling back at me, not knowing it’s the last time she’ll ever see my face. Stars form in my eyes as they begin to fade to black. I have to hold on. I have to make it. For her. For our unborn child. I’m grasping at every straw I can find, but darkness washes over me before I can find relief. This is it. I struggle to memorize her image, and in a flash, she's gone.
