Any witch would be lucky to live in Celestial Haven.
At least that’s what new mom Oakley Brooks tells herself when she moves to the idyllic supernatural suburb with her sister. If raising a witchling and adjusting to a new neighborhood wasn’t hard enough, Oakley has a sinful secret.
Her magic is running out. And if the truth about her dry spell is uncovered by the tight-knit coven’s rumor mill, she’ll be sent packing.
After her sister doesn’t return home from a night on the town, Oakley begins to worry and enlists the help of two of her neighbors: a charming personal trainer who conjures up once-forgotten feelings and the coffee truck’s resident brewista who’s as broody as he is enigmatic. Could her magic be playing tricks on her or are these two tasty treats actually interested in the hot mess mom down the street?
The full moon closes in—the perfect opportunity to recharge her magic. Oakley must decide if she can accept the consequences of her gift or if she’ll let her magic disappear forever.
As they continue to search for answers about her sister, two things become Secrets never stay hidden and something wicked is brewing on Starry Night Lane.
Wicked in the Pines is the first part of a supernatural MMF why choose paranormal romance duet set against the backdrop of the Pacific Northwest. For readers looking for Practical Magic and Wednesday vibes with a splash of spice and a dash of mystery.

The girl that grew up trying to find a magical realm hidden in her closet, L.R. Friedman hopes to transport readers to beautiful, sexy, dark and magical places through her stories.
Oh my gosh, the way I blew threw this had me realizing at the end of the book, thirsting for the next one and some water because I had been so focused on the book I didn’t realize I was hungry and thirsty 😅 so yeah. I enjoyed it a lot. Practical Magic vibes with a mystery and why choose. Honestly, I’m not sure it could have been teed up any better for me. And I need to read the next one in the duet, now 😍
Oakley thought moving with her baby was going to be the hard part. Leaving his dad, after he proposed, and moving in with her sister. But her sister is nowhere to be found after her date. Any her magic she has been suppressing is desperate for a recharge under the upcoming full moon, and her Desire is latching onto several attractive and available men. Oh? And her ex is coming to help her find her missing sister and get settled. Any sleep deprived witch could handle this, right?
Thank you to Sunny Babe PR for the copy, all thoughts are my own.
Just what I needed to kick off the fall reading season! This is a book that immediately immerses you in the world from the first sentence and it is SO FANTASTIC. I loooooved the witchy premise, the “whodunnit” of it all, the motherly love, the spice, and o m g the characters are just so intriguing!! I could see this neighborhood of witches so clearly in my mind, from the lavish parties to the coffee cart! Speaking of coffee cart— our two male love interests?! Way hot. And I LOVE that for Oakley. ;)
The mystery isn’t QUITE solved yet, so I am definitely interested to see how this all plays out. And like… Atlas and Oakley? I think I need him in the mix TOO!
Immediately reading the next one. I’m freakin hooked!
Shout out to Sunny Babe PR for the eARC of this read!!
You have to add this one to your Fall reads! Omg, so good! Perfect for fans of Practical Magic!
Celestial Haven is a small town hidden from the world where the supernatural can live a normal life. Well, as normal as it can get for paranormal’s. 😂
Oakley is a single new mom who moves in with her sister to raise her son in this perfect picturesque neighborhood. That is, until her sister goes missing and enlists a few the help of two of her neighbors to solve the mystery and find her. Her so thought idea of perfect neighborhood has many secrets. And they never stay secret.
With her magic dwindling, the stress of being a new hot mess mom, her sister missing, can these two hot men seriously be interested in her, or is her new mom hormones getting the better of her?
What I loved about it: 🧹 Witches, magic and potions 🧹 Each witch has there own special magic that’s different from everyone else’s 🧹 The MC’s are older 🧹 Did I mention it’s Why Choose??!! (MMF) 🧹The neighborhood reminds me of every suburban neighborhood, including the nosey neighbors. 🧹Small town mystery romance. 🧹 Slow burn and angst 🧹🌶️🌶️🌶️ (with book 2 promising to amp up to 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️) 🥵
The first thing I noticed about this book, it was well crafted. Written in a way that is so relatable. It is my first Why Choose book. The way this represents motherhood and the struggle of postpartum is so real like it’s talking about your life and the struggle you go through as a new mom not knowing if you are doing the right thing. The characters are lovable and the men are just so sweet and thoughtful I don’t think they are available in real life lol. I loved the magic abilities that each character had and how they had to recharge with the new full moon every month. The investigation of Hazel’s disappearance kept me intrigued wanting to know more. Oakley,Lynx, and Saros relationship is just so interesting I love them all and how they work together. Their attraction is over the roof. Loved The nicknames 🫠 “Wicked” and “Midnight” Loved seeing Oakley embrace her gift and take charge of her life to be the person she used to be. The end was satisfying yet somehow left me wondering what’s yet to come with the investigation and Atlas. I can’t wait to read book two. This book is defiantly special because it tackles subjects that you don’t read much about in other books.
My favorite Quotes “It was so weird to be moon-blessed with an ability that affected every romantic relationship I’d ever had.”
“If there was anything sexier than a gorgeous witch in gray sweats, it was a gorgeous witch in gray sweats holding my heart in his hands.”
“I’m so used to being the one taking care of everyone else. It’s strange to be on the receiving end of it.”
“I never felt burdened taking care of my friends or family but for some reason, the idea of needing help made me feel weak. Incapable.”
“One day you’ll make some witch very happy. It just won’t be me. Not in the way you want.”
“I had to go before I dragged you out under the stars.”
“The most sexy, strong, and stubborn witch I’ve ever met. To the point that you’re currently pissing me off,”
“Why was I so hard on myself when I could see the beauty in everyone else around me?”
“People are only strong because of the traumatic shit that made them that way.”
This was such a cosy and bingeable book, short and sweet but with enough action packed in to keep the reader interested and invested in the characters.
I loved the rep of a single mum navigating life in a new town (which had all of the witchy vibes!!) I’ve never read a book with breastfeeding in it before and found this really refreshing, I find representation like this really important! Another selling point was her navigating her life now vs before, her body and life had changed drastically and she was trying to find herself again.
The romance in the book was of course central to the plot but one of my favourite things was the bond between her and her sister.
There’s also a whodunnit mystery incorporated into the book which isn’t fully solved yet so I’ll be picking up the next one to continue the story. This was a lovely cosy read to lead into autumn and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
When recently separated mother of an 8 month old baby Oakley comes to live with her sister in the perfect witch community, she doesn't expect to meet not one but two sexy hunks that'll make her life more exciting. The perfect neighborhood is not as perfect as it seems, as there are secrets and baddies hiding in plain view that can change the calm community for ever. When her sister disappears, the hunks will be there for her like no one has ever been.
I really liked how the post-partum mum life was portrayed, and how both Lynx and Saros made Oakley feel sexy while accepting she's a mum-baby inseparable team. The magic system, with the potions and the moon, the mix with modern tech, was quite interesting. And the poly relationship will need to be further explored to be realistic, though I am sure book 2 will give us all the good times.
Also, can we take a moment to talk about how pushy Atlas was? He constantly disrespected Oakley's boundaries and I dislike him sooooo much.
I can't wait to read book 2 and learn what happens next!
Cosy witchy read perfect for spooky season.

OK! This book… where has something like this book been my whole life?!?! It hits every paranormal romance need and more. If your looking for a book that will leave you with a book hang over— look no further! Thanks for ruining me in the best way possible ❤️
L.R. Friedman is one bad witch, y’all. I am absolutely obsessed with Celestial Haven and I could not put this book down!! As usual, L.R. Friedman brings the magic, awakening all of your senses with the beautiful imagery written on the page. As someone going through my own season of feeling lost and like I’m drowning in the chaos, this book could not have come at a better time to remind me that every season changes. Another amazing novel, and I cannot wait for the next in this series!!
I stayed up way too late reading Wicked in the Pines because I could not put it down! I've been a fan of LR Friedman's writing for awhile, and Lauren hit it out of the park with this one as well.
I absolutely loved the post partum representation with Oakley. It's been awhile since I've been a new mom, but I still remember clearly that feeling of needing to find yourself again during that time and I wish I had read a book like this then. Seeing Oakley's empowerment and realizing her worth, was so powerful. Also, she was so relatable! All the craziness that comes with nursing and diapers and spit up can be hard to deal with at the time and it was cool to see a character in such relatable situations.
And the spice? Oh my goodness!🔥🥵🔥🥵 This was my first why choose romance and I loved it. Soros and Lynx were both incredibly written book boyfriends. I am always a sucker for the grumpy MMC, so I especially liked Soros.
Overall, I wish Celestial Haven was a real place. I would visit in a heartbeat! I am totally craving a Midnight Mocha from Luna's now and could totally go for one of Lynx's pumpkin muffins. I'm excited to read Midnight with the Hexed to see how their story concludes!
I’m not going to lie, the beginning of this book is tough to read from an emotional standpoint. It deals with the depression and changes that women frequently deal with during the post partum stages. While it is hard to read it is so real and I love that the author doesn’t lie or sugar coat what it’s like after having a baby. Overall excellent book with funny and sexy parts that you will love. Highly recommend!
I read Wicked in the Pines for a review tour hosted by the author, L.R. Friedman, and Bound By Mischief Author Services. Thank you to both for inviting me along and for the gifted book. I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
Witchy reads are my favorite, especially during the Fall season. And, I love finding new-to-me authors. This book ticked off both those boxes. The spice was an added plus!
I resonated with Oakley so much. I went through the body image issues (which I have most of my life) post partum just as she did. The fear of never looking or being like you were before giving birth is a very real struggle. The author portrayed this perfectly with Oakley. She doubted so much about herself and I know this story will hit home for so many women.
I love Lynx and Saros! I like getting Lynx’s POV too. There were many times when I thought for sure this guy wasn’t all he portrayed himself to be. He just seemed too good to be true. There are secrets and a few twists. You just can’t help but want happiness for them. Saros has a story and once it starts coming out, my heart just grabbed hold of him.
This story gives me The Bedford Wives vibes. Everything and everyone seems so cheery and perfectly witchy. But, we never really know what goes on behind closed doors and almost always nothing is quite as it seems. So, when Oakley’s sister goes missing, everyone seems guilty to me. I would’ve liked a little more creepy/spooky, especially surrounding the mystery part of the story. But, that’s just a personal preference and in no way takes away from the story as a whole.
The spice is HOTTT! They are well-written scenes. I love the why choose scenario. Just know that these scenes are explicit. I’m hoping for more of this romance in the next book.
It ends on a surprising cliffhanger of sorts. I can already see where this is heading, but I hope I’m wrong. I’ll be reading Book 2, Midnight with the Hexed , very soon!
I loved Wicked in the Pines and recommend it to fans of paranormal romance, spicy romance, why choose, MMF spicy romance, unique magical gifts, mystery, and witchy reads.
~♡☆"Secrets never stay hidden in Celestial Haven"☆♡~
Thoughts Sooooo this was not what I expected. It wasn't bad, but I won't be reading the second book. Even though this isn't my usual vibe the experience wasn't all that horrible👀 The story was interesting until it wasn't and it felt like had been solved, that is probably why the second book won't be seeing me.
~♡☆" I've found most people don't see themselves as they truly are," Saros said, nothing but sincerity infusing his words." ☆♡~
Characters ☆Oakly: Firstly this is such a pretty name. She wasn't that bad. I liked Oakly very much. I think that I was a little too different from her to relate to her javing a child and the changes that came with having a child. There was absolutely no shame in it whatsover it just felt unrelatable and because of my lack of understanding it felt annoying at times, WICH IS PURELY A ME PROBLEM
Lynx: He was so sweet almost as sweet as the things he baked. I loved how understanding he was regarding Oakly's situation. Also he sometimes (most of the time) caused some butterflies in my stomach.
SarosI really wished to get to know him a little more. I know you can get to know him better in book 2 but I won'tbe reading that. He came off as a very wise person and the fact that he read and occasionally wore glasses that made him look hot had me sold. I also loved his nickname for Oakly.
~♡☆" People are always more interesting when they don't realise whose listening. " ☆♡~
Oakley Brooks is a new single mom who moves to Celestial Haven with her sister for a new start. Any witch would be lucky to live in Celestial Haven. This is what Oakley tells herself but if the tight-knit coven's rumor mill finds out Oakley's sinful secret she’ll be sent packing.
After her sister doesn't return home from a date, Oakley begins to worry and enlists the help of two of her neighbors: a charming personal trainer who conjures up once-forgotten feelings and the coffee truck's resident brewista who's as broody as he is enigmatic and just happens to be the charming personal trainer's husband…
Could her magic be playing tricks on her or are these two tasty treats interested in the hot mess mom down the street?
As they continue to search for answers about her sister, two things become clear: Secrets never stay hidden and something wicked is brewing on Starry Night Lane.
I love how different this book is from other witchy books. It has so many great tropes! I mean come on a witchy, why choose, with a quirky postpartum FMC how can it get any better? I absolutely adore Oakley she's so relatable and real. I love seeing her grow and fall back in love with her body. Confident Oakley is a mood 😍 it might be a slow-burn but it’s packed with spicy tension! I can’t wait to read the second book of this duet and find out what the future holds for these three!
2.5 stars. This started out as intriguing, but just didn't make a lot of sense after some time, yes, even for a modern fantasy book. Definitely a love letter to new moms as it heavily revolves around Oakley's son and all the crazy experiences motherhood brings on which realistically, I get. And it's in A LOT of detail on what exactly that entails, especially while breast feeding.
It's a quick read, so I guess I shouldn't have expected more world building, but it just felt like it was missing *something*. Especially when this is also meant to be a mystery with the FMC's sister missing. Then the 'bad guys' are exactly who you think, but I'm guessing it'll expand in the second book with how it's left open. Much like a lot of questions are left open once this finally starts to reach the end, but not enough that I'm salivating for the next book. Frankly, I was more interested in the one character that was killed.
Don't expect much on the spice as you don't get that final satisfaction from it till nearly the end of the book and even then, you don't really get it fully with the MFM. Guessing... more in the second book.
I was left wanting, but I don't think enough to pick up the second one. Maybe when I just need a break from the heavier/longer fantasy reads as that's why I picked this up in the first place.
This witchy book is the perfect fall-time read to kick off your October! It’s funny, it’s mysterious, it’s got some great slowburn spice and an ending you won’t want to miss 😉
We’re introduced to such an endearing cast of characters right from the start. Oakley is a brand new mom- just moved into a new neighborhood with her sister, trying to start a new, more independent life away from Aspen’s father, and letting her magic slip away each full moon that passes. Along her journey to find her sister (and decide if she wants to save her magic), she meets Lynx (ahhh, Lynx 😏) the local personal trainer and Saros, the local broody brewista. And let’s not forget Atlas, Aspen’s father, who of course shows up in town (he is truly a delight, I wanted more of him!) This book has lots of banter, intrigue, and slowburn spice, but it also has so much heart and love wrapped up inside.
This was one of the first books I’ve read within these genres with a cast of characters that are actually around my own age, and I loved it so, so much. We don’t realize how much we need age representation in adult books until we get it! These characters are all in their 30s and 40s, and Oakley is a nursing mom (yes, lots of milk jokes ensue 🤣) and I adored every scene little baby Aspen was in. It was also really refreshing and healing to see a new mom who feels she’s lost a bit of herself, and getting her journey to reclaiming herself and her body after becoming a mother. 🩵 Thank you for telling this beautiful story!
Overall, this was such a fun, moody read for the upcoming Halloween season, and I LOVED IT. I was lucky enough to read the arcs for both books in the duet back to back, so stay tuned for my review of book two, Midnight With the Hexed, very soon! (Be warned- the spice level for book two is much higher than this one 🌶️)
I liked the story, I liked the characters. I think the witch neighborhood idea is so cute and made me feel in the spooky mood. I liked that the FMC had a baby and the main love interest was so sweet and kind with her and helped her love her body the way he sees it.
At the same time that’s one of the reasons for the lost star. I have two toddlers myself. I get not recognizing or loving your body after kids. That’s why I loved that Lynx didn’t care about any of that. But it was a little overkill with the writing of it. A lot of time is spent writing about spit up, bodily fluids, breastfeeding and even a scene where her breast milk freaking sprays him in the face on accident, like? I started to feel like I was breastfeeding myself, which isn’t a journey I want to read about. Also I’ve never had my breast milk explode out of my boobs and spray men in the face.
The other reason is a bigger deal for my lost star but I just didn’t feel any angst, there isn’t any banter. Lynx shows up to welcome her to the neighborhood and just simply falls in love with her. I’m hoping that in the second book there’s some better angst and back and forth with her and Atlas considering he’s her ex. We will see.
Overall I did enjoy this book as a simple, witchy read with a splash of spice.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I loved this book. It had the vibes of Practical Magic.
Oakley is a single new mom who moves in with her sister Hazel, in Celestial Haven. The town is a a small town hidden, where the supernatural can live a normal life. Her sister then go missing and she enlist two of her neighbors help to find her. Turns out Hazel isn't the first to go missing.
Oakley's struggle as new mom and stressing over her place as a witch in the world, felt really real. The men in her life is are just so sweet and thoughtful. I really love how the characters have different magical abilities and it isn't just magic. The system felt thought out, with the recharging on new full moon every month.
There were a lot of twist and turns and I loved it. Loved it got solved by the end, but it felt like there is more to come.
I wanna start off by saying this book got me into my fall reading mood. Also, I don't read Why Choose very often, but this book had me in a choke hold.
This book was amazing and always kept you intrigued, with a fast paced flow (I read this book in a couple hours with work and breaks in between. We follow Oakley who is the FMC who is a first time mom and seeing the representation is something I can relate with. And don't even get me started on the two MMC in this book, cause I could go on and on about them. The development of each character and how they interact with each other was sweet where you would kick your feet and well written. This book ended way to fast for me so I will be picking up the second very soon.
If you enjoy *MMF Why Choose *Paranormal Romance *Slow Burn *Single Mom *Found Family Then this book is for you
This is a why choose paranormal romance with characters who will suck you into the first of two books in this duology.
Oakley, Lynx, and Saros are this blend of spicy meets fantasy and connects to reality.
As a mom myself I throughly loved Oakleys journey of relearning herself after having her son. There is so much that goes into one’s postpartum journey and LR Friedman handled this so beautifully!! I loved how Oakley was so strong in her own right and yet vulnerable with all the newness that comes with motherhood.
Let’s say the spice level of this is HOT!!! Like you will need a cold shower or an ice bath after jumping in with this lot!
I loved how the mystery and paranormal aspects of this story added depth and a true plot line keeping an excellent pace.
Overall this is a fantastic why choose with enough witchy magic to put you under a spell as you enter Celestial Haven!!
This is such a fun witchy read! When Oakley moves into the idyllic suburb of Celestial Haven she finds herself immersed in a picture perfect community. Problem is that her sister seems to have gone missing. Not good timing since Oakley’s magic is nearly gone and she’s not even sure if she wants it back.
Oakley gets help from the hot fitness trainer neighbor across the street who’s keeping a few secrets. One of them includes his involvement with the equally hot barista that Oakley has her eyes on.
It’s a steamy read with a bit of mystery. There’s a recluse witch, a DA trying to hide things, and a series of missing women.
There were a lot of details set up in this book that I’m hoping will be expanded on more in book two.
Thanks to Sunny Babe PR and the author for proving me a copy to review.
Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Book - Wicked in the Pines by @lrfriedmanauthor
Thank you for the opportunity @sunnybabepr and @lrfriedmanauthor
I will call this book really interesting and witchy🧙🏻♀️ But i like this one. This is the first part of a duology.
I like those books in which the FMC are not perfectly portrayed. In this book first of all FMC - Oakely is a witch, who is in her Postpartum phase and her body is going through changes. She is also figuring out her gift, while handling her baby boy Aspen.
The book is a combination of suspense and how can we forget the spicy romance part😉
There are other characters - Lynx, Saros, Hazel, Atlas with their respective gifts. These characters make this book more interesting to read.
Thank you to the author and @Sunnybabepr for the gifted e-book.
I really enjoyed this quick paranormal fantasy read. The story follows Oakley Brooks, a single mom and witch who has recently moved into the neighborhood of Celestial Haven with her sister. When her sister goes missing, Oakley has to rely on two hunky guys in the neighborhood for help. The witches in the story have unique powers and secrets, making it a perfect read for the fall season.
It was refreshing to read about a new mom navigating through motherhood. The character development was well done, and the ending set up the sequel, "Midnight With The Hexed".
I highly recommend this book if you're a fan of witches and magic. It's available now.
I'm a huge fan of LR Friedman's Blaze Legacy series, so when I was offered an ARC of her newest series, I jumped at the offer.
Wicked in the Pines is about a new mama (her son is 5 months old at the beginning of the story) and her journey of self re-discovery. As a mama to 2 littles myself (one of which I'm still nursing), I could completely relate to and empathize with Oakley's issues. I loved seeing her return to herself and all the sexy power that came along with that.
In addition to Oakley, you meet a bunch of other witches that make up the Celestial Haven neighborhood. I can only hope that some of these relationships develop deeper, more permanent roots while there are others I could definitely live without. I won't give away any spoilers, but I will say that I never liked that Witch anyway.
I'm already itching to get my hands on part 2 so that I can find out what happens between Oakley and her men. I'm also curious to see how much her Desire takes control and if she ends up with 3 men in the Pines on the next full moon.
I can't recommend LR Friedman's books enough. There's some sugar but always plenty of spice and more naughty than nice.
I will read anything by L.R. Friedman at this point. Compared to her Blaze Legacy series - which is my absolute favorite - this one was a bit spicier and more grown up but had slightly less world building. There is still a great amount of worldbuilding here though, its just not as heavy of a read. If you like MMF this is for sure going to be your thing, especially if you enjoy stories about witches and mysterious kidnappings. It was such a fun read and had the perfect amount of spice for my taste while still having a really fun plot that kept you reading, i even stuck in chapters at work because i just couldn't put it down. While i think you're supposed to like Lynx the most (and i do like him), Atlas is by far my favorite because he is the most my type. If you like the quiet and grumpy type then yours will be Saros. Oakley is an extremely relatable FMC that goes through all the same body image issues we have in real life and i really enjoyed the fact that all the characters are in their 30's and 40's. I am really looking forward to book 2 to see what comes next now that the plot has thickened with the event that ended the book.
I am so thankful for this book ... this was an amazing representation of a mother who lost herself a bit, and was trying her best to learn to adapt to her new "norm".
I LOVED Oakley! She is a badass! I loved her attitude, her perservance, her determination to do what was NOT only best for her, but for those that mean so much to her.
I LOVED Lynx's helpful demeanor since he laid eyes on Oakley. The love and care he showed her and Aspen 😍
Saros was another great character; just took some adapting because of his own challenges. I LOVE how he tried his hardest.
Hazel's character was great! I especially loved her relationship with Oakley. Hope to see her more in book 2.
Here is my review!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My first witchy book of the season ❤️
This book follows sister witches who have moved to a house on Starry Night Lane. Oakley is soon on the search for her sister when she suddenly goes missing. The Handsome neighbor is suddenly showing up more often and soon is diving head first into the case to help her find her sister. Whats better then one handsome witch on the case, well two!! Lynx and Saros help Oakley not only renew her powers but also due to their double lives solve a case that’s been taking down witches!! In the end there was a bit of a twist and a great lead into book two! I’m excited to see what the witches of Celestial Haven get into as they try to find the real threats!
The slow burn into sexy delicious heat. Unbeatable. I knew this was going to be spicy but I wasn't ready. I think I might have been even drooling at one point.
Oakley is the character that I needed to read when I had my children, I remember feeling everything that she felt, and I feel so seen. I mean I didn't have two men lusting after me, but a girl can dream right?
And the neighbourhood?! It was dreamy, and witchy without being cheesy, I found myself giggling over some the witchy names ie Brewrig. I wish this was a real place that I could live or at least visit and daydream about.
This was the perfect witchy, spicy slow burn mystery romance. I did not see the twist coming, and I was disappointed when it ended, because I NEED MORE!!
