I am inspired with a story and this story has its definite shape as it acquires my thoughts. But I cannot say that this is what happens always. at times, there just a tiny seedling that drops onto the soft cushions of my mind, awaiting favourable conditions for germination, just like the peepul seed. It is also true that every now and then many such seeds drop into my mind. It is not possible to differentiate the peepul seed from that of grass. Yet, I can surely hear the wind passing through the dense foliage of the peepul. These stories resemble the wind passing through it.

I want to give 10/5 stars. The book is so fabulous! It's not our nostalgic imagine of the time gone by. Its an account of the harsh reality of 1950 around.

One after another, he writes stories that are sketches of real life, real people, all set in rural Maharashtra.

These portrayals are not politically motivated or tainted in any hue, which is one of their greatest strengths, noticeable only if one is aware of just how much the colonial diatribe of over a millennium and half of hatred against India has dirtied the waters of view of India, so that few even see things clearly.

Here, we see people as they are, without external paint falsifying realities. People are themselves, villages feel real. It isn't all rainbow hues, it's often horrifying or dismaying, but it gets to ones heart, every single time.

Amazing book , with fluid and captivating story telling style. No one can beat the simplicity of "Gadima". Also parochial language used which take to the hinterlands where that story is set.
