I had the pleasure of photographing this incredible cookbook for Nikk Alcaraz. The recipes are creative and indulgent and Nikk does a great job at guiding the baker through the process. It’s a cookbook that many might view as a fall and Halloween recipe book but it’s so much more and is useful all year round for anyone who likes the more peculiar side of life. Oh, and the photos are beautiful as well I guess. Lol
I’m somewhere between a three and four star rating on this one. It’s super fun to look through and the recipes might be really yummy, but nothing I immediately wanted to run out and buy ingredients to make. Also, some of the recipes are quite complicated and could use more detailed instructions (or photo step-by-step). I’m always irritated when templates aren’t included in the book. Here you have to scan a code or visit a website. Hmm. Glad I waited for a public library copy. Not one I am destined to purchase.
I love the creativity of this cookbook. The photos are beautifully done and the recipes are interesting and fun. My main complaint is I wish the steps were listed, rather than paragraph form. I also wish there was an estimated time, but I understand that’s dependent on skill. I am a beginner baker. So this book is absolutely above my skill set, but I’ve enjoyed trying!
"Peculiar Baking" by Nikk Alcaraz is a refreshing take on baking that combines creativity with delicious results. The book features a variety of unique recipes that push the boundaries of traditional baked goods, encouraging readers to experiment and have fun in the kitchen. Alcaraz's clear instructions and engaging writing style make it easy for bakers of all skill levels to dive in. With beautiful photography and inventive flavor combinations, this book is a must-have for anyone looking to add a quirky twist to their baking repertoire.
I met Nikk Alcaraz at an exclusive book signing for his latest cookbook: “Peculiar Baking: A Practical Guide to Strange Confections” - this was held at my favourite bookstore “Alice’s haunted little bookshop”. Gorgeous cover and wonderful recipes, which for someone who doesn’t bake much, they’re easy to follow with awesome photography. I look forward to impressing family and friends with the epic outcomes. Great tips and baking advice too. Thank you and it was so good to meet you.
The best cookbook I've ever seen in my life, no joke. Every recipe gets me super excited to bake! Exactly my aesthetic. I pre-ordered it the moment I saw it available, and it was absolutely worth every penny! 💕
I stumbled upon this book in a KU search and it fit my OTPS challenges and my peculiarities in so many ways. It is delightful and comes with templates for decorating.
