The picturesque town of Haven may offer sanctuary for all, but the irony is getting harder to monsters are vanishing. Aline knows better than to meddle. The runaway Princess of Faere learned the hard way what happens when others see what her magic can do. No, it's far better to focus on her own problems like running The Monster's Den and staying off the paranormal council's radar. Tragedy strikes Haven as things are finally starting to come together for the lonely fae, and Aline has no choice but to intervene.
The blows keep coming when the paranormal council initiates a full-scale inquiry into why monsters vanish from Haven. It seems her house of cards is about to tumble. Can she trust the ghosts of her past and the unhinged monsters desperate to be a part of her future to help keep her safe? Will they even want to when they see what she's capable of?
This book is set in the A Monstrous World Series. It's an interconnected standalone that features a new female main character, but it was designed so that you can jump in here if you prefer. It's these characters complete romance. No cliffhangers!
I love the mix of monsters. They are so sweet and loving to Ali, though badass monsters to everyone else. I actually loved these guys a little more than the guys in the first book. There was Atlas, an orc/giant hybrid, Malice, a nightmare demon, Silence, a Seelie fae prince, and Hex, a Fae/kraken hybrid. And of course, all sorts of crazy shenanigans happen when you're a Fae princess on the run for murder.
This was an easy fun read, though it did have what could be a triggering issue being dealt with for some so please check the warnings. I am loving this little monster town of Haven and can't wait for Nadia's but especially Charity's story because Dragons. Sexy dragons.
“I’ve got you,” he says in his language as he brushes his thumb over my bottom lip. “And now that I do, I’m never letting you escape. Try to run, and I’ll be forced to hunt you.” He grins, making the experience sound purely sexual. “You have my solemn vow that I will murder anyone who tries to keep me from you from here on out.” My heart flames in response to his words. I can feel his sincerity, and it’s overwhelming as hell. “I hope you’re happy, little one. You’re mine.”
Another great book by Jillian West! I loved this sweet and spicy romance. I am always a fan of unique peens and appendages - The FMC, Ali’s, variety of monster mates come with tentacles, shadows, and “will it fit” size. Plus, oviposition goodness.
There is very minimal angst. She has four mates (fated and chosen) who are all in and will burn the world down to keep her safe. Her orc/giant mate even goes so far as becoming a serial killer to protect her identity. That’s love!
This book is fast-burn and incredibly spicy. Two of Ali’s mates are virgins, but that doesn’t stop them from deviant thoughts. Ali is mated in multiple forms with MF and group partner combinations (DVP is on order)!
The extended epilogues are the icing on the cake. The Monster’s Wife ends in the sweetest HEA for all.
It is a standalone, but I recommend reading The Monster’s Den first for the best reading experience. There are crossover characters and plotlines.

• Monster Romance • Woman on the run • Found family • Infertility topics • Pack full of different monsters • Strong FMC • Affectionate MMCs
I've never really tried out a shifter romance like this and I'm loving it. I've read all of Jillian West's Omegaverse romance books. So these were next on my list. And she's never let me down in the past! 🥰 I devoured the first audiobook of the series and quickly moved on to the second. Especially when I found out it was going to be Aline's book! I loved her character in the first book. These can definitely be read as standalones, but it's been so much fun to follow the series. However, Jillian does a fantastic job of filling you in on what you might have missed.
I LOVED Aline and her guys! Every one of them brought something special to the pack! I enjoyed getting to know them so much! Getting to understand each species(?) has been so much fun!
This was also my first tentacle spice book! And I really wasn't sure what to expect. And hot d*mn it was spice. This whole book was probably the spiciest book I've read by Jillian West. And if you have read one of her books in the past I'm sure that seems like a hard thing to do! But she did it. She does spicy and sweet so well!
I also enjoyed seeing glimpses of Emerson and her guys!
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW Duet Narration Narrated by Melissa Moran and Michael Gallagher
Again! I'm blown away! Absolutely devouring these audiobooks! Melissa has done such an amazing job bringing each of these ladies to life. And Michael, just wow, I can't get enough of his accents. His ability to switch from one accent to another is mind blowing. He's so incredibly talented.
Two things that annoyed me. Why isn't this linked to the series? And why don't we learn where Nadine has gone?
For most of the book I was leaning toward 4 stars but it picks up as you go. I don't read grovel because it never lines up. Her husbands didn't do anything terrible but damn did they grovel. Idk if that was even the authors intention but it was good shit.
Also baby fox 🐙 he gets 5 stars alone because I once tried to shove my little brother in the toliet too
“The Monster’s Wife” is another brilliantly funny monster romance from West. This book is book two in the series, and while you could read it as a standalone, I would highly recommend otherwise.
As we learn from book one, Aline is on the run from something. Or rather, two men. In “The Monster’s Wife” we learn just what it is that she’s been hiding from and the role these two men play.
The harem in this book is delightfully funny. Atlas is half orc half giant and 100% my type. His faith to Aline was beautiful and I love how he remained devoted to her even after the truth was revealed.
Malice was an enigma. He was a new monster to me, and I had trouble visualizing him at times throughout the book. However, he brought so much comedic relief to the harem and it was so needed!
Silence and Hex…my babies! These two fae men went through hell for Aline. I loved their character development and how they stood by Aline unwavering.
Each man helped lift Aline up and make her into a stronger woman. I so enjoyed reading about their journey to becoming free from Faerie, while also seeing them fight for a future. If you’re looking for a charming, comedic monster romance that is equal parts entertainment and seriousness, give “The Monster’s Wife” a read.
4.4 stars. Very similar kind of vibes to ‘Knot Guaranteed’ from this same author. I mean, different, but same same. FMC in this one also has fertility issues. 🤷🏻♀️ There’s other similarities, but I can’t think of them at the moment. Mostly I think it was the overall vibe of the book.
I really enjoyed reading this. It was hot as hell with all the different kinds of monsters and their fun…appendages. 😂
Plus, two of the guys were virgins. Love that shit.
Safety + other info: • interconnected standalone • no MM but two of the guys kiss (they don’t have feelings for each other) in order to show the pain a mate feels when they are intimate with someone else • Silence and Hex both felt pain every time the FMC was intimate with someone else due to the fated mate bond, but the FMC did not know they would know she was with someone else/ it caused them pain, so she is remorseful • FMC hooked up with a bartender a few years ago • FMC celibate for three years • Atlas (orc/ giant) was rejected by the mate his family wanted him to have. This was before he met our FMC. No other info on his past. • Silence (fae prince) celibate 23 years • Hex (half kraken) and Malice (nightmare demon) are virgins • no OW/OM • set at a s3x club (FMC doesn’t offer services, I think she was more of a manager) • One scene where the FMC is intimate with two of her mates and the s3x club watches. The FMC was glamoured to look like another woman for the crowd but her mates do not see the glamour. • One scene where FMC takes her mate to watch two of the side characters having s3x but he does not want to watch them. He only wants to look at the FMC
What a great blend of angst, spice, and sweet! Ali was strong because she had to be, but we get to see her walls come down as Atlas burrows his way into her heart first, with Malice not far behind. Silence and Hex are complete wild cards until we find out from their POVs what happened the day of their wedding in Faere. And when they realize how everything seemed to Ali, they make a real effort to mend the rift. A quote that describes it perfectly, "I can't change the past. I can only do my best to fix our future." As always, I adore that the author gives us multiple epilogues to see things from each character's POV as their HEA comes to fruition. Don't ever stop doing that!! Excited to see more stories from the other monsters!
Absolutely FREAKING loved this book. Delicious ♥️Monster♥️Smut
We get Aline, the fae princess’s story this time around. And the author does a fab job of weaving old characters as well as diving a bit deeper into new ones too.
We have a kraken mate who is also half fae prince, full fae prince who is a soothsayer, a demon who devours people fears and a half orc half giant who is a gem of a dude and former horde leader in faere. WE GET ALL SORT OF MONSTER PEENS AND EGGS PEOPLE WE GET EGGS.
We get Aline’s history meshed in w the incoming mates-the author did a super job if balancing the time among all her men too.
And of course we get perfect epilogues where we get to see their brood and how they live their lives.
🚨Content warnings are always well done by this author and always at the very start of the book.🚨

Aline’s story absolutely held the same story style and overall feel as Emerson’s story in The Monster’s Den, but with very different mates and obstacles. I adore the world building in these books and highly recommend reading them all in order.
Aline is very sweet but troubled. Her past was heartbreaking, even more so when she has to face those she left behind. She’s also a total bad-ash and isn’t afraid to put people in their place when needed. She’s definitely strong fmc goals.
Her mates are all a little psycho with their own backstories that play very well into not only how they interact with Aline but also each other. They’re a drool worthy group and the spice was phenomenal between each of them and their mate!
I can’t wait to get more of this world with Nadia’s story!
If you love monster romance then this is the book for you!! I absolutely loved the first book in this series The Monsters Den and this one was no different! I so enjoyed this story from cover to cover and these monsters are 🥵🤤. This one starts out while the other one is in motion and they intertwine. Aline is a powerful fae and she’s been running from her 2 husbands since her wedding. Hex the kraken and Silence the shadow slayer/prince are the husbands bound and determined to find their wife. Atlas is the orc/giant who has been working with Aline and just wants to get closer to her. Then there is is Malice, the nightmare demon who worships her. I can’t praise this book enough and I can’t wait to read the next one!🖤
Aline’s origin story is heartbreaking, but her men come right in and build her up. Even her complicated relationship with her two husbands is heartbreaking but sweet.
This story also represents for the women who have infertility issues and it’s done in a great way… obviously in a fantasy way as well… but it really was beautifully done.
Anything Jillian West puts out I will read. I love her omegaverse and while she is just going into more PNR Monster I find that this is really just a genre of romance she is going to excel at. I love this world that she has built and I really love seeing the gang fro the first book in this series just consistently showing up! In this we have a nightmare demon with shadows (YES!!!), a fae Kraken prince, another fae prince, and a half orc/giant!!! What else could you want! This also deals with a heavier topic of infertility due to backlash. Our FMC face backlash due to an event that happens in the beginning of the book that we are told about and even witness. Reading this makes me really want to go back and read The monsters den all over again and then this one. It will be a book that I will have in my phsyical collection so i can always remember it when i see it and reread it when I feel like I need a comfort read!
Oh, Ali is one of my favorites in this world. She was lost, hurt, alone, and running from her past when it all caught up to her. Watching her build her pack and forgive her husband's was so beautiful to read. Love this book.
I love everything jillian writes and the monster’s wife went beyond my expectations. This was a lovely read - as are all of her other works. Ali has shot up to the top of the list for favorite FMCs and her men… LAWD 🥵
I was nervous going into this book because the last one was not my cup of tea, but I am glad I checked this one out.
I enjoyed this book. There was more of a build up and backstory to each relationship which made them feel more emotional than just instinct driven lust. Each of the men felt different with their own personalities and struggles to overcome.
One of the aspects I liked the most about this book was the heroine, Aline. She was interesting and had her own unique backstory with external and internal struggles she had to face throughout the story. She was more fleshed out as a character than Emerson, in my opinion, which was one of my main issues with the last book.
You get a little of everything with this group, all of them are a bit unhinged but thats what makes them fun.
The first book was amazing but I just wanted to slap the mc she lives and breaths trauma 😔 she assumed her husband's didn't want her even though she never even talked to them she ran for 20+ years strung along the orc for 3 years and then when her husband's show up she acts like the wounded party and had everyone ready to fight she's just annoying... going to skip through because the woo-woo is boring hoping book 3 is better
Jillian always knows how to give me the perfect blend of freaky deeky spice but still make it super sweet and adorable.
OK so we don't get any grovelling really so much as we really discover what went down but I still feel like the guys made reasonable strides to making amends and proving themselves.
TW for anyone sensitive to fertility issues as this is a main theme that Aline struggles with, and a lot of her inner monologue is very emotional.
MALICE !!! Fave mate hands down, his comments and interactions with everyone he comes into contact with had me cackling. 𝐈 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐤𝐲 𝐣𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬. 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.”
This book focused on the fae courts and fae politics. I found it confusing: seelie, unseelie, spring court... What?
The main trope here is miscommunication, which I don't love, but it's well done in the sense that you could see how it all happened, and it doesn't feel trivial. There were enough surrounding circumstances that made the miscommunication believable.
Still, the question why Hex and Silence didn't try to get to know Aline before the wedding or tell her how they felt about being her fated mates is never answered. This is a pretty big plot hole. Sure, they had reasons for looking so unhappy on their wedding day, but what about before the wedding? Aline says they never made any effort to get to know her.
The issue of Aline's magic is also never settled. What does her magic do and why is it considered so powerful that it's dangerous? What's so bad about it? She healed her sister, that doesn't sound like a bad thing. I was confused throughout the story because Aline's magic is the focus of why she's in hiding, but it was never properly explained.
I loved that Atlas wooed Aline for three years and watched over her, and that Malice was able to take away her pain. I also loved the devotion of Silence and Hex .
However, again the world-building was weird and skimmed over, because how can Aline not know what would happen when she slept with men other than her mates? Shouldn't that be basic knowledge for all of the fae? You should know your own species' customs and how matings work. It didn't make sense to me that she was unaware.
The truth about her situation was a bit anticlimactic, as was the confrontation at the end . And the fact that five years had passed but the conspirators hadn't acted again, what were they waiting for?? That didn't make sense either.
I didn't feel I really got to know Silence or Hex. Particularly Silence. He felt kinda constipated. And Hex, it's unclear why he had not allowed his monster (the kraken) out for so long. Again, the lack of backstory and world-building. But it was refreshing that two of the men were virgins, although it really didn't seem to make much difference when they got down to the sexing.
There were also side stories about Laz, Vivie, and Saber -- and Chastity, Bane, and the wyvern, which were so skimmed over that they were confusing. In the end did Vivie and Saber get together? Did Chastity and Bane? If both Saber and Bane thought Vivie and Chastity were their mate respectively, why didn't they tell them? How did both couples fix their misunderstandings? It doesn't look like any of the future books are about them, so the outcome should have been much clearer in this book.
I found this book a somewhat dissatisfying read. Aline never has a proper conversation with Silence and Hex. It's just bits and pieces here and there. There didn't seem to be any proper closure or working through their misunderstandings and hurt. Instead of them explaining things to her, she got part of the info by seeing Silence's memories -- and not because he wanted to share them with her, but because Malice was feeding on Silence's pain (to shore up his strength to save the three of them) and Malice let Aline see those memories play out like a movie in Silence's mind. I was not hot on the lack of consent on Silence's part for this sharing of memories and pain.
I wanted to see Hex and Silence cuddle Aline and comfort her to make up for the pain she'd suffered -- and for her to do the same for them. And for them to apologise to each other and explain how they each had felt about the mate bond. Like, how Hex's monster had scented her and instantly became a goner. I wanted the emotional intimacy... but once again, it seemed to be mostly about the sex, especially because of Aline's "quickening" (like going into heat). It was a disappointing read.
I’m so happy to be back in this world because it’s just always getting better 🙌🏻 I loved getting little peeks into what was going on with Emerson’s guys behind some of the scenes from the 1st book, and after the events that took place at the end. I also loved seeing so many wonderful side characters that are just begging to have their stories told (hint hint 😉😝). As for Aline/Ali & her guys….whewww 🔥🔥🔥 Ali had been on the run from her past for a long time, but her past & present are about to decide her future. Thank goodness she has 4 mates willing to fight for, & with, her. Atlas might be part Orc & part giant, but he is 💯% a marshmallow when it comes to his flame. He is the epitome of knowing his strengths, but not having to throw his weight around to gain respect. And the way he supported Ali during this book….I mean, no one could ask for a better mate, and he is EXACTLY what she needed. Malice is absolutely delicious & mischievous. He may be a nightmare demon, but one person’s nightmare is another’s dream 😈 The way he would do anything for Ali, and the depths he would go to so that any pain & distress was taken from her if he had any say in it. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling whenever he was in a scene 😍 And jeesh, I was not prepared for that little surprise in Chapter 13 🫣😈 I may have squealed a bit 😝😂 As for Hex & Silence….after the little bit at the end of book 1, I wasn’t sure how I felt about them. They seemed liked entitled spoiled brats, but just like Ali, I was so wrong about them. I felt so bad for the pain & torture they endured because of their physical & emotional distance from her. Watching the 3 of them come together on the other side of all that pain, after suffering for so long, was just so sweet & touching to experience. Seeing Ali find the way to her HEA was an amazing emotional roller coaster full of second chances, forgiveness, action, mystery, humor, spice, passion, off the charts chemistry, and deep unconditional love worth fighting for. I’m so excited for Nadia’s story, especially with all the little hints & teasers throughout this book 🥰 I can tell it’s gonna be sooooo good, and I can’t wait to learn more about Malice’s friends 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Oh, and can we talk about how yummy this would be in audiobook form? With Silence’s “English” accent, and Hex’s “Scottish” one. I’m just waiting for the day I hear it’s finally available lol.
This was a little all over the place and hard to follow at times. There's A LOT of characters. And it's really difficult trying to remember who is who and their relationships to each other. There's so much that happens and there is hardly time spent in the details surronding events. Some things just made absolutely no sense and you're just expected to go along with it?
For example, a character is "introduced" called Kash. Except he's already dead and is just a puppet for one of the love interests. But this Kash character is part of some government type thing and has some type of history with the characters/the place they work. And is a bad guy? But the first time we meet him, he's just a dead body??? He then proceeds to kickstart this random drama that is resolved almost instantly. Okay... so like who is this guy? All we know is that his name is Kash and he had some type of history with another side character. And what is this agency he's a part of? Why do they care? What power do they hold? Why did they show up? What was their goal? Who is this wyvern that showed up? Where did he come from? It literally made absolutely no sense to me. I even went back to the previous book to see if his name was brought up as all, and there's nothing.
All of the relationships out FMC had were already half done off page before the book even started. She had some type of relationship with every one of her love interests as soon as you start the book. You get infodumped their backstory and their chemistry felt so forced at times.
The sex talk is so cringey and really took me out of it. I had to skim most of the sex because it was so bad.
This book was soooo good!!! I honestly didn't start it right away because I thought The Monster's Den had left me with impossible expectations 😂 The sweet mates, the cute pup, the fun characters; it was all the things I love in these kind of books, wrapped in a pretty little bow. This one did not disappoint. If I'm being completely honest, I think I liked it even more! When I noticed it started before the ending of The Monster's Den, I feared it would become repetitive. It was not. Right away, Ali shares a relationship with Atlas, who is the sweetest, grumpiest, orc/giant. I loved how protective he was of Ali, how devoted and ruthless, and I think their relationship kept me hooked from the very beginning. The other mates, Hex and Silence, had a very tough introduction, but they do earn their way to your heart. Twenty years ago, they made Ali believe they did not want her as their mate, and it broke her heart, just before something awful happened to her and her family. Now, they are back, and they want to set things straight, and I really liked a kraken as mate a lot more than I expected. Because Hex's kraken is the cutest. And finally, Malice is the most understanding, smart, sweet demon ever. I loved him, and the way he kept talking about his shadow demon spawns lol This was an amazing, intense, entertaining fast read. Everything I could have hoped for! An absolute five stars read🌟 I'm sorry for taking so long, Jillian West. When Nadia's book comes out, I'll head right in, no questions asked 🫡
Rating- 4 Heat- 3.5 Tropes- hey choose, fated mates, second chance Need to know- Even though goodreads doesn’t list this as a series, this book follows Monsters Den. It has different leads but overlaps in timelines.
Ali ran from the Fae world and is hiding in a town that acts as a monster sanctuary. She has built a life there filled and is just settling into a relationship with an orc who has loved her for years when the husbands she has been running from find her.
I really enjoy the world West has built. She expanded out of the usual paranormal creatures to include just about every fantastical one you have ever heard of. There are demons, vampires, werewolves, and Fae, but there are also orcs, krakens, sphinxes, and gargoyles. Since none of the characters are discovering this world, the existence of these creatures is told in a matter of fact way. As if morphing into something with tentacles is as normal as having blue eyes.
The Monster’s Wife really begins in the middle of Ali’s love story. We don’t get to see any of Ali’s mates meet and fall in love with her. In fact, 2 of them already of the foundations of a relationship. The majority of the plot revolves around a miscommunication. Thankfully, this is far from one of those silly ones where you are screaming in your head for the characters to just talk to each other. Ali had very good reasons for believing as she did, but she still gave her Fae husbands the chance to explain.
