A Sensual Summoning

Rate this book
Spellbinding seduction is only a page away...

When exiled witch Faye Kyteler discovers a spell book hidden in the ceiling of her home, she never expected to accidentally summon the Daemon held prisoner within its' pages. Now bound to her, the sullen, cantankerous Rafael is anything but what she expected an incubus to be when he demands she find a way to free him, or else.

But something is wrong. The world has changed in the centuries since Rafael has been imprisoned. All the Daemons have disappeared and the magic that once thrived on earth, is dying.

Forced to work together, frosty suspicion soon morphs into a fiery passion Faye isn't sure is due to her own feelings or the seductive power of an increasingly hungry incubus. A hunger that Rafael is hellbent on resisting.

As she navigates the alluring world of Daemons and the dark past that brought them together, an old evil is awakening. Now, Faye must do her part to save a world that shunned her or risk losing it, and Rafael, forever.

Disclaimer: I was given and am reviewing an ARC of this novel, courtesy of the author.
If I had to summarize A Sensual Summoning in one word, it would be a delight. There’s no other word for it. It combines elements of romance, cozy fantasy, and an edge of horror to keep you on your toes the whole time. The plot is fast paced but not overwhelming, coming together in a picture perfect puzzle in the end. The setting is rich and described vibrantly, as the author takes you on a stroll through an old growth Scottish wood. The explicit scenes take your breath away — beware, there is MOST DEFINITELY adult content ahead (and it’s delicious).
Where Rachel J Roman shines the most, I think, is with her characters. They feel so familiar and distinct, and you want to follow them along their own paths. Particularly for me, I fell in love with Faye, with her good-natured and yet iron-willed character. She’s a character you want to root for, again and again.
With this as a debut novel, this author is sure to have a rich and long career, and I can’t wait to see it unfold!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book before the release date, and I’m so glad I did! It was exciting, fast paced, and so fun to read. I loved all of the dialogue and inner thoughts from the MC, I was worried I would have a difficult time getting into the story because I’ve never read any books about witches before, but the author wrote it in a way that was so fun and easy to follow. Such a great, cozy, spooky spicy read for the fall. Definitely recommend!

I received an ARC of this book by the author, allowing me the opportunity to offer my review.

I am pleasantly surprised by this stunning debut novel. It has everything one might adore: fleshed-out characters, mystery, a well-thought-out plot, and lots of delicious spice.

The narrative of the novel masterfully weaves a sense of enchantment and nostalgia, immersing you in a world that feels like a living embodiment of the cottagecore aesthetic. As you delve into the pages, you'll find yourself transported to a realm where the charm of rustic simplicity and the beauty of nature merge seamlessly.

Faye is an amazing lead; she has doubts, strengths, and is a main character I relate to greatly. Meanwhile, Rafael’s struggle to accept himself and what he is is something I relate to, and it made me overly emotional as I learned more about him. The worldbuilding is fleshed out, and the relationship between Faye and Rafael develops naturally and slowly which I loved reading.

The writing in this novel is STUNNING. Roman manages to paint stunning imagery with her words alone, making you see and feel everything the characters are going through. Even the side characters are well thought out and have their own goals, desires, and personalities. None of the characters in this book are randomly tossed in; they're not dismissed for something foolish. Everything comes full circle, and plot points that you'd think would be forgotten resurface and tie everything together in a pretty red bow.

The villain of the story is cunning and smart; again, very well fleshed out. He's not just a mustache-twirling villain; he's so much more. He has his own relationship with Raef, and their story goes much deeper, raising the stakes even higher.

There is a lot of spice in this, not that I'm complaining. All of it is excellent. I realized that sometimes authors will overuse these scenes, and it'll come off as unnatural, but that's not the case here. The scenes are placed thoughtfully, happening naturally instead of just being shoved in there (no pun intended). The spice is delicious, steamy, and just sucks you right in, making you wish you were a fly on the wall to observe it all.

All in all, this is an EXCELLENT debut novel and one of my favorites that I have read in a long, long time. I can't wait to read more from this author, whether she writes a second book of sensual summoning or something else entirely; I'll read it all.

I deeply enjoyed reading this! and whatever I write here isn't going to do the story justice, since I've been feeling pretty scatterbrained the last few days.

Faye is.... an annoying person. but she did end up growing on me a lot by the end, partially because she ended up acknowledging and accepting that she's not very bright. she developed so much as a character, it was really a beautiful process - and I ended up feeling like she and I were good friends by the end. I sort of wish we actually were lol, she reminds me of me a lot.

and the cozy witchy aesthetic of the whole story was just - heart eyes for daaaayyyys 😍

the only thing that almost docked a star is that the smut scenes seemed... like... unrealistically perfect. and.... sometimes anatomically impossible. it felt like someone was watching a questionable hentai and trying to translate it into words. the writing was excellent throughout, don't get me wrong, and I absolutely love the beautiful imagery it evoked, but just.... does Faye ever have ugly sex????? she's like the perfect poster character of a bratty doe-eyed sub. even if she sweats it was described as sexy and aesthetically pleasing. it... got a bit old. it would have been nice for it to feel more real.

that was about it though that I actively didn't like. every other aspect I felt neutral to at worst, or actively enjoyed! like I think aside from the imagery of it all, the underlying story of being yourself and breaking free from others' expectations and choosing your own family was excellently done.

I just - ugh I want to say more but putting things into words has not been a strong suit for me lately. but I very much enjoyed this read. I'll probably look into getting a print version to have on my shelves!

Had the amazing opportunity to read the ARC so please keep in mind that the version I read may not be final version of the book.

Spoiler free review:
I enjoyed the book a lot. It offers exactly what it promises: a lot of 🌶️ and magic. The magic system is very grounded yet whimsical. It's a great book to read when you have no spoons but you still want to read.

Spoilery review:
I loved Faye as I can relate to the neurodivergent traits. Was not too keen on Raef, as at times he was a bit of a misogynist, which is understandable considering he was imprisoned for so long, I just did not particularly enjoy that. The shift from 'we are not talking to each other' to 'we are doing it all the time' was really fast in my opinion, it could have been a bit slower/gradual. I don't want to comment on the 🌶️ scenes because everyone enjoys different things when it comes to that.

I loved this story so much and I am so glad I was chosen as an ARC reader for this!
A perfect read for this autumn as it is set in fantasy world of modern times that deals with witches, daemons, necromancers etc. Lots of lore to explore, very much plotted but with an equal amount of spice!
The TENSION! Desire, tension and attraction between our witch and the Greater Daemon she accidentally summoned IS CONSTANT.
This is a story of two people who through their loneliness are growing together, believing in each other!

4.5 stars!! this is the longest book i’ve read so far this year!! haven’t really been dipping into fantasy as much this year either but this book has me hungry for more!!

Faye is a witch who’s been forsaken (exiled basically) and she’s alone and desperate to connect back with her magic. while doing this she finds an old spell book and decides that summoning a familiar would help her. of course what she expects to happen doesn’t happen and she summons a daemon! an extremely sexy powerful supernatural immortal emphasis on SEXY! (his name is Raef) oh and forgot to mention something super important, upon his release she also unknowingly links them together with a significant sigil, the same one that had kept him trapped for centuries in the book. and from here their story begins. he gives her a short time frame to free him from the link and that’s how the book goes for a while. her trying things to free him. she’s of course is extremely attracted to him and he her but after their first encounter the main focus is the breaking the link. and of course nothing can be too easy!! releasing Raef also unleashed a dark ugly back into the world desperate to escape and wreak havoc. sorry if my review sucks i don’t do these often….so yea while trying to free them from the link they also have to investigate (and then work to defeat) this evil force that’s been awoken.

I really loved the writing style of the books and at first i thought that the book was too long but now after finishing i can see why she felt it necessary to make it this long. you kind of need all of the info being presented to understand the story and characters more. especially my absent minded queen Faye. reading her transformation was so fulfilling it felt like watching my friend finally become confident in herself and it was enjoyable to read! especially reading how Raef played an important role in helping her leave her shell. Raef also went started as being the grumpy deadline breathing over neck but Faye softened him of course and we got to see his struggles and also learn alot more about these Daemons.

Reading them falling in love was such a treat because it didn’t feel rushed. i really felt like the timing made a lot of sense and seeing just how much Faye had softened Raef was so cute! and the spicy scenes were enjoyable for the most part. some parts were a little too freaked out for me but i did still enjoy them? Idk maybe im learning something about myself i didn’t kno LMAO. 5/5 chilli peppers tho!!

i’ve said so much without saying anything at all. Sorry LMAO but overall i did enjoy this book and the characters and seeing them defeat the Big Bad of the book! it’s a long read but so so worth it to me! I hope this motivates you to read it’s

Wowza, I think this is possibly the spiciest book I’ve read. And notably, all that sex didn’t seem out of place. Perhaps Raef’s nature as an incubus is what allowed sexual tension and or touch to grace almost every page without being annoying.

This was a sexy, cozy read with big stakes but never too much trauma. The main characters had some scares and set-backs, mostly in the name of character development, but the plot never felt stagnant. I’m guessing a second book is in development, to flush out some of the unresolved issues of the wider world, including obvious intrigue between two minor characters and a big shift in power dynamics. I enjoyed it!

Felt a little long at times and some of the dream sequences were a little clunky. Also never got to see Faye confront the Council/Mother dearest in person. While I understand she was able to let go of her childhood trauma, I apparently wasn’t and I wanted to see that confrontation haha.

Overall, I liked it! Talking myself into 3.5 ⭐️

I came over here from the authors AO3, where I fell in love with her writing style and penchant for excellent smut- nice to see that stayed consistent.

I also loooove witches and demons and all that type of stuff far more than the current flood of Fae in the romantasy genre, so it was a nice change of pace.

Good writing, decent pacing, excellent smut. Could very much tell that the MMC was based on a certain character from fanfics written by the same author, but I didn’t mind (I mean, I discovered her from those fics so clearly can get behind said character being the object of affections).

She also does a well rounded, feisty of spirit FMC that made the whole thing a very enjoyable read.

I wanted to like this book

I wanted to like this book. The premise hooked me. But at 30%, I DNFed. In general, I don't like MFCs like this one—meek, clumsy, indecisive, almost stupid—set against a grumpy yet continually horny demon. It got boring without much else going on (a hungry wolf, a noisy neighbor, a monster, a vampire, lore, anything to intensify the stakes).

That being said, some will love and eat this book like a snack. If you love the type of sexual tension that gets too close and then backs out; characters in forced proximity; and sunshine vs. grump, this is your book.

Thank you, Rachel J. Roman, for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review:

“A Sensual Summoning” by Rachel J. Roman

5⭐️/5⭐️
5🌶/5🌶

“Your mistake locked you in a book. My mistake freed you. Maybe both of those mistakes simply put us on the road we were always meant to be on together.”

Faye Kyteler has been banished from her coven. Forced to live in isolation, she spends her days studying magic in an attempt to prove her worth. One day, she discovers a book hidden in the depths of her cottage. Thinking she can use the knowledge in the book to enhance her magical abilities, she unknowingly performs a ritual which binds her to the occupant of the book: a powerful daemon named Rafael. Rafael, an incubus, has been trapped in the book for centuries, and wants nothing more than to seek revenge on those who captured him. But as Faye and Rafael set to work breaking their tether, they start to realize how mutually beneficial this new relationship can be. Can the two figure out a way to help each other, or are their respective predicaments a lost cause?

-I’m so impressed with this book! I think by about 10% I realized I was going to be completely obsessed with Faye and Raef. Truly, I’ve never read a paranormal romance like this before; it's a totally unique story. I think it would have been all too easy for the author to use sex as a plot device due to Raef being an incubus, but instead she explored the complexity of each character. Ultimately, there are many layers to this story and so many aspects that can be appreciated. You’ve got Faye on her own personal journey, trying to build her self confidence and discover her place in the world. Then you have Raef, who needs to learn how to accept his faults, but to also realize that other people view his faults as strengths.

-The cottage-core, witchy, autumn vibes are immaculate in this book. I loved the setting, a forest on the outskirts of a Scottish village. The author did an excellent job describing the imagery of Faye’s house. I felt like I could picture everything, the tinctures, the crackling fire, the stacks of books, her robust garden, etc. If you’re looking for a book that puts you in the autumn mindset, this book does an excellent job.

-The dreamscape adventures that Faye and Raef explore were fascinating. It’s a blend of memories, emotions, and what the subconscious is capable of creating based on the two. Sometimes it’s quite pleasant, other times it’s nightmarish, and readers get to experience both sides of the spectrum.

-I loved reading about Faye. In the beginning, her story seems very straightforward: she’s a witch who is an outcast due to her supposed magical incompetencies. Unfortunately, she believes this to be true. But it doesn’t take long for readers to realize Faye is much more capable than she thinks, which begs the question, why is she really banished from her coven? Faye is intelligent, creative, resourceful, empathetic, determined, and capable. It’s a nice little mystery for readers to watch unfold, and it keeps you interested in the entire book, from start to finish.

-Raef starts the book trying so hard to come across as an emotionally detached, all powerful daemon. However, we get to read chapters that focus on his POV (it's the third POV, but it switches from observing Faye to Raef). Raef talks a big game, but this man has some complex feelings and emotions that he refuses to communicate. Once Raef does some self-realization, that’s when the pacing really picked up for me.

-It’s very rare for me to rate a book five stars and five chili peppers, these books are pretty much top tier in terms of balancing excellent storytelling and the hottest smut I’ve ever read. When Raef and Faye finally get together, it’s almost unspeakably hot. This book has some of the filthiest and poetic smut I’ve ever read, and I had so much fun reading those scenes. And there’s so much passion beyond their physical relationship, the actual romance is epic and full of emotion.

-I would recommend this book if you are seeking a cottage-core book for the fall season, want to read a totally unique paranormal romance, or enjoy angsty and tension-filled romances. “A Sensual Summoning” is available on Kindle Unlimited.

What I liked:

- The plot was actually quite good. There was an interesting and kind of clever villain and some cool side characters. It was internally consistent and the writing was good in way that you don't always find in smut books.

- Faye is a neurodivergent main character (I'm guessing adhd based on my own personal experiences with it. She's clever and clumsy, inspired and scattered. It's kind of fun to read about her mental processing as I find myself doing the same damned things in my daily life. She's lonely and looking for some kind of connection and acceptance for her, just as she is, which she finds in Rafael (my spelling might be wrong here).

- Rafael is relatable, for a daemon. He also wants to be loved for himself, not for the desire he inspires as an incubus. He's ancient and jaded and he wakes up in a world far different than the one he was familiar with. Watching him bumblefuck through his feelings is kind of delightful, honestly.

- The romance is pretty sweet and the affection between the fmc and mmc is honestly heartwarming. Yeah, there's a metric fuckton of smut, but it's well written, even if I don't personally care for some of it. I was rooting for the two of them to fucking figure their shit out and get together.

Things I didn't like:

- I am not into sex that's described with words like "brutal" and I also really hate the whole "gagging someone with your huge dick" thing. Like, crying and gagging while giving a blowjob just seems like a nightmare to me, personally. If you're into it then you'll very much so enjoy those parts of the novel, but I just skimmed the hell out of those sections. Also, there was a ton of cum and I personally just find that hilarious, not sexy at all. It sounds like a lot of cleanup (lol, though the main characters do just kind of wallow in it at times, which grooooooss).

- Faye is tiny, so very, very small, which is quickly becoming my least favorite trope ever. Is it simply a size difference thing because Rafael is so huge? Is it just the height and size difference between an otherworldly being and a normal sized human woman? Who knows, not me! But her smallness is mentioned over and over and over again, so it's fucking annoying either way. I'll never understand, much less like, this trend of fmc's being small as hell.

Rachel has me in a chokehold with these two. Faye is a witch whose coven has deemed her unworthy of being a witch. Rafael is an incubus who hates his very nature. A summoning spell gone wrong binds them together. Reliant on Faye's unrefined craft to free him of the bond, "Raef" (as he introduces himself to Faye) wrestles with his anger at being trapped, his disdain for what he needs to survive, and his growing attraction to Faye, who is one of the most affecting portrayals of neurodivergence I've ever read.

She's never explicitly stated as such, but the cues are there: misunderstood by her family and community and ultimately cast out; struggles to focus and excel despite a desire to learn; difficulty staying on topic; a desire for companionship but overwhelmed by people; and most heartbreaking for me, Faye's joy every time Rafael *sees* her, her worth, her earnestness. Rachel portrays this so beautifully, and as an adult with a recent diagnosis, I appreciate Faye and this representation so much.

Meanwhile Rafael struggles with his nature as an incubus, the underlying issue of *true* consent from both his food sources and himself always at the forefront of his mind. When marketing this book, Rachel stated numerous times how the consent could potentially be read as dubious, but she didn't just drop it in a warning and ignore it throughout the story. The idea is at the center of Rafael's every interaction, not only with Faye but also with his other partners.

This book tastes like a cup of hot cider, smells and sounds like a crackling fire, begs to be read while wrapped in a hand knitted shawl or an oversized sweater. I am obsessed and you should be too. Also there's a sassy pet cow, so I really don't know what else you could ask for.

Content notes for interactions that can be read as dubious consent, as stated; familial abandonment; implied autism/ADHD/AuDHD; dream realm sex; blood; violence; magical imprisonment

Beautifully written

I’m really blown away by how wonderful this book was. I don’t recall how I found it (recommended by someone? Suggested by kindle) but I am so thrilled to have read this book. Forgetting the wonderful world building, solid characters, fantastic adventures and plot, or the spice … the writing was beautiful. I can’t remember the last time I read a book and was just thrilled with the writing. It was beautiful and a joy to read. (I wished I could be in the cottage, in those woods.)

That said the world is familiar and yet with (amazing) elements of different and intriguing. Magic and demons: fun and awesome. Main characters that felt real and also grew so much over the course of the book. The conflict was “outside”, no third act break up nor any terrible easy to fix issues because of miscommunication. I never knew what the next plot development would be, it didn’t feel predictable, and I really enjoyed as things unfolded (the fun, emotional, action packed, or spicy moments were great)!

I read a lot and this is for sure one of my top 10 favorite reads of the year. I found myself taking breaks from reading this once I was about 75% in because I didn’t want it to end (I didn’t want to be done with this book). Without a second thought I’d happily read anything more this author may (hopefully) write.

✨🌲😈 READ THIS ONE IF YOU LOVE: WITCHY WOODS VIBES, GOOD WRITING, AND GRUMPY SEXY CONSIDERATE INCUBUS ✨🌲😈
The biggest problem with supernatural spicy romances is balance: either the author focus too much on the spicy and forgets the supernatural, or focus too much on the supernatural and the romance is weak, and so it goes. In this book, it doesn't happen!!! Rachel can perfectly mix the bog witch vibe and sexy incubus with not only good spice that adds up to their romance, but she actually created these really touching characters that feel true. We are talking about an incubus? yes, but he also cares about the cow and the fact that even tho he needs to feed he really doesn't want to mess with the feelings of the awkward witch that accidentally summoned him.
It is truly a masterpiece of a book! I laughed, i cried and also got h*rny in the perfect amount! I've read it 2 times already, and I have a feeling It won't be the last time.
I was waiting for this book for a while and knowing that Rafael is based on a character Pedro Pascal portrayed makes it all more special! Really loved this one!
I will be looking for this authors next works anxiously!
(and no, she did not send me the book or anything, i just really love this book!!!)

I had the privilege of getting to read this book as an ARC before its publishing date, and what follows is my honest review.
Although I have to say I did find some of the conflict premises a bit convoluted and at times hard to follow, it's no less true that the prerogative of the fantasy genre consists of enabling the autor to expand the margins of the imagination and create possibilities outside of our wildest dreams (pun intended, not to spoil).
I found this book managed to take a perhaps predictable (although not less delightful) trope and give it twists and turns that made me very invested in the eventual resolution. Without giving away anything major, I must admit I felt a deep kindred to this wild-haired, ADHD-coded, self-doubting little witch with mommy issues that talks aloud to her pet, and was personally very gratified by her story and growth (I, too, need a big bad hot-as-fuck Daemon to help me see my own worth... and also [redacted] me in the [redacted]). My only contribution is, she should adopt a cat!
This book will be added to my comfort read shelf as long as it hits the stores. Cheers, author! And thank you!

😄 This was such a fun read, and I am so thankful it was sent my way!

🔮 When I read the blurb about an outcast witch summoning a Daemon through a book, I was super intrigued, especially when it said it was a spicy cozy romance book. I was here for it! 📖🌟

😅 I got lost at first, but I'm glad I stayed because it was worth it.

❤️ I love villains who would watch the world burn for the one they love, and this book delivers on that front.

💑 I loved how their relationship was built slowly at first, and then we saw stars and so much fire, which I adored. 🌠🔥

💥 There's a lot of action too and so many plot twists that had me gasping out loud.

📚 It's a big book, so if you're a mood reader, then wait for it until you're fully committed because it starts slow, and you'll need to have your energy to get through that hill.

📣 I highly recommend this book to people who love enemies-to-lovers stories, underrated female characters, alpha-hole villains who would burn the world for the girl, and spicy reads. 🔥📚👩‍❤️‍🔥

I don’t normally read fantasy romance but this wasn’t bad. I enjoyed the slow burn beginning and the dynamic between the witch and the demon. But I actually enjoyed the story more and in the second half of the book where the romance took over I found myself getting frustrated with the sex scenes and wanting to get back to the story lol because it’s actually pretty good whereas the sex scenes become rather ridiculous to say the least… and when does anyone want to feel ‘filled’ up to ‘her throat’ that just gives me terrifying visions from the Brad Pitt Seven Film where the prostitution is murdered with a dildo!

Another note after reading other reviews apparently the main girl is supposed to be neurodivergent? Well I’m neurodivergent and I didn’t pick up on that at all! I thought she just had been kicked out of her family and gone to live in the woods lol! This writer doesn’t know how to write the neurodivergent brain that’s for sure!

The h in this is written so well. Sweet without being saccharine or stupid for the sake of the plot.

I would have enjoyed little more world building to understand the nature and existence of Incubus(es? plural?), why were there no Deamons in the human world anymore, how long had they been away, how did magic work before, and in the present book-time, that the Covenant felt it necessary to take “measures to hoard magic” if I understood it right…

The action happened in dream space/ subconscious space which reminded me of Inception,

Loved that the h had a cow as her pet! Totally expected to roll my eyes at another witch-cat situation but I was pleasantly surprised.

I received an ARC by the author for this novel!

Honestly way better than I would have ever expected from this sub genre. It was really fleshed out, long, and had a world that I genuinely want to see more from. Has an ending that could go some cool places, including more action/adventure or even some political/worldbuilding. Spice is great too, without sacrificing character development.

The main characters are in isolation for most of the story, so internal thoughts take up a lot of this book, but honestly I didn’t notice. I love having a romance novel that has a cliched plot but real characters that I care about, with flaws that come from past events instead of just tropes.

I’m excited for a sequel!

I really enjoyed this book! It’s just the perfect mix of soft fluffy romance and that hot spice that will leave you needing a cold shower 🙈

It’s got witches and demons and necromancy, perfect for spooky season just right around the corner.

In all seriousness though, I loved it. I love the way that Raef is this crumpy incubus who meets his match in Faye (I totally love her), a witch who has no confidence in herself. Their banter is amazing and their chemistry 🔥

Rachel did an amazing job with this and I look forward to reading more from her. If you like

🦋Crumpy/Sunshine

🦋Spice (and I mean, SPICE 🔥🔥)
🦋Fated mates

Then this book is for you ☺️

I was a lucky recipient of an ARC of this book and I loved every second reading it. The author does an amazing job of giving the characters their own passions and motivations, they were very three dimensional and their interactions were ADORABLE. Especially a little misunderstanding that happens in chapter 40. The author also does a great job at creating an overall feel for the story itself. It’s a extremely atmospheric and the author uses that to help create a setting that compliments the plot itself.

The spice? Spicy. The characters? Developed. The plot? Plotted. The mystery? Mysterious.

Definitely something I would recommend reading if you like witchy books and want a cozy read with a little bit of mystery solving. A very good read for spooky season.

There were a lot of interesting ideas in this book, they were simply introduced in the wrong order. Faye had so much going on in her life and her mind and I wish that had been explored more in the first half, especially her relationship with her family. I think that would have really enriched the connected she found with Raef. Instead, the first half, while it was fun, felt kind of hollow. And the second half was kind of a mess of jumping in and out of dreams, running around a forest, and conspiracies being exposed. Honestly, just moving some stuff around (and pulling back on the dreamworld action) would have REALLY helped this. And I just want more tension in books like this.

I enjoyed the first 30%, but the story started to drag as it went on, and I ended up skimming the last 40 pages. Once the characters began exploring each other’s dreams, it lost me—it felt like an attempt at Inception that didn’t quite land, with too many typos and plot holes. Also, I love spicy scenes as much as any horny 30 year old woman, but even I found myself clutching my pearls during some of the later scenes. I ended up skipping the final spicy scene entirely because by then, I was just ready for the book to end.

I’m giving it two stars because I did enjoy the world-building, and the incubus MMC was an interesting concept.
