Several years have passed since last we saw the family Maxwell. During those intervening years, there have been a number of changes: - Florence now attends CASS full-time and only comes home on the occasional weekend and during the holidays - Jack has a new career which, although challenging, he enjoys immensely. - Jill has a (nearly) new receptionist.
But some things never change: - Jill is just as busy as ever. - Winky is still up to his old tricks (but even he has changed a little)
It’s hard to believe this is the 49th book (or more as I read the off shoots) and I still love them. It’s like catching up with an old friend. You laugh, you cry, and are sad to see the last page.
Adele Abbott has had me hooked on this series since the first book. Jill's humor and pit falls and just her whole attitude about life in general has had me falling off my chair laughing, (well almost). And how she now and then speaks to the reader as if we don't believe what Jill is thinking. I'm glad there is another book, although I hate having to wait till next year for it. But I'm sure Ms Abbott will tie it altogether in the end. I just don't want to see it end, ever! There was so much going on in book 49 that I loved reading it and will read it again before I let it go. That said, all the characters have become so familiar and I don't want to let them go either. It's like having to give up a soap opera! So now I will grieve till I get the next book.
This time, I liked most of the changes that came from the five year jump. I was devastated by the news that Winky had gone, but quickly relieved that his ghost was still around, and that his missing eye had been restored. It was a relief to have her bratty kid away at school! My only wish is that we would see her stretch her witchy skills a bit more. It seems as if the doppelganger spell was her main sleuthing tool. She's letting her magical skills go stagnant. Still, I enjoyed this one more than the past few.

I like the book as a fast and easy read. What I don't like are the names given to most of the characters involved in the ensuing plot each time or the young juvenile humor. "Bernt Toste" for a character is plain ridiculous and irritating. This series of books could be so much better if the lowest bar towards humor was dropped.
I love this series of books and this one was as good as ever. The clever playing on words to come up with the new characters has me laughing out loud often. The detective work is pretty good too. Bring on the next book as soon as possible!
Another fun book. Again, lots of funny names for the characters. And again, I love it when Jill speaks to the reader. Oh, and when Winky was making faces at the new accountant. Of course she couldn't see him because he's a ghost now. Too funny.
3.5 stars cause actually enjoyed this one more than the last one. I can’t help myself but to want to read more of the same story instantly. That’s got to be a win win! It’s like kids books for adults and I’m big fan of that at the end of an adulting day!!
I hadn't read a Witch is ... Book for a while. I really was eager each time I got a chance to get back to the story. Jill was in good form! I recommend this series to anyone who wants a good story without too much tension and no gore.
