I was so bored I’m so sorry

I just … didn’t vibe with this.

The characters were boring, the nicknames were terrible, everything was disgustingly cheesy and not in the good way, and I just ….was so bored.

Was there a plot? I kept waiting for one so if you find it, lemme know. I’d love to know what it was.

But yeah, there are way better OV out there with actual character development that don’t make you want to skim pages, I promise.

I love cute, sweet heroines so you’d think this would be right up my alley. However, it leaned far too much into the ‘cute’ schtick to the point of infantilization, something I don’t care about.

Warrick himself describes her style as “a fine line to walk between being childlike and an aesthetic.” Which would be fine if she acted her age a bit more, but this girl falls asleep in a store’s pillow display, has to be bribed into eating her veggies, and needs to negotiate a bedtime with her men. That last bit in particular, with Ulysses straight up saying “I fully intend to put you to bed early” and sending her to sleep at 8pm felt particularly creepy to me, because I have had these exact same interactions with toddlers.

That aside, the writing itself is nothing stellar. Most of the bonding time feels like an AA meeting, with everyone sitting in a circle sharing personal stories, the only difference being that these men have a girl to pass around from lap to lap between bouts of exposition hell. It feels formulaic to the point of boredom.

Probably the most memorable part of the book, for me, was the narration. I’ve been listening to audiobooks for over a decade now, yet this is the first time I encounter a narrator with a voice that made me wanna punch a man in the mouth. I’m not actually complaining since this is a genuine talent in the world of voice acting, but holy shit does Alex Kydd make every man in this book sound smarmy. I hope he goes on to voice many villains. As for this book, he may not have helped me like the characters, but given the writing that was never gonna happen anyway. At least he made them memorable in a different, if violent way.

Anyway, I did not enjoy any part of this book, only laughed at the times the narrators did not correct the author’s typos, and so will not be touching the next book in the series or any other by this author, any time soon.

I don’t have anything particularly bad to say. But with so many books on my TBR I have to ask myself, do I care what happens next?

And the answer here is meh not really 🤷🏻‍♀️

So sorry but it was so weirdly off-putting to find out this book was inspired by a baby who passed away at like a year old? That was the most disconcerting opening to omegaverse i’ve ever seen.

No rating but wow what an uncomfortable book.

Holy sh*t balls this book is sweet. Like, too sweet. I knew I was getting sweet when I selected this, and I wanted it, but this was close to eyeroll territory. The dialogue was perfect in a fake way. No one talks the way the characters in this book talk. I know this book is inspired by a real person that had a real medical condition, but that condition took over the whole story line and felt like too much. Maybe someone with a chronic medical condition would appreciate that more than me? I did read the whole thing and am going to read part two next so it wasn't that off-putting.

Also, the Omega, Bailey-Rose (hate this name), felt like a manic pixie dream girl: She's artsy! She's got pastel hair! She's got two differently colored eyes! She dresses like a child! She's so short (4' 11")! She didn't feel like a real person. The Alphas felt more like real people, but their characterization wasn't all that great either.

I think I'm dnfing at like 18%. The writing style just isn't for me and I found the dialogue to be awkward. Maybe will give another chance at a later date because I like the premise, but I'm not sure.

edit: i tried this again and got to 36% but i just don’t know if i can do it 💀💀💀

Being an omega a genetic defect like her congenital heart condition, Bailey-Rose is certain she’s gonna end up alone; no scent match will want the hassle of it all, but when her brothers bestie Ulysses is back in town and catches her scent he’s ready for him and the pack to show her just how wrong she is.

Now I’m a dark romance girly, but there’s something that hits different with sweet omegaverse romances, this one was ticking all the boxes.

This books delivers all the delicious things I lap up in the omegaverse world, with enough sugar spice and everything nice to cause cavities - I’ve officially taken up residence on cloud 9 because that’s where this book took me and I never want to return to earth
LEAVE ME HERE!!

… at least until book two is out because that cliffhanger had me gasping 😰😰

It is difficult to put into words how I feel about this book. I have been getting tired of Omegaverse stories, but this story renewed my appreciation for the genre. The relationship between Bailey-Rose and her Alphas shows that she is the centre of their universe. The characters are multi dimensional and have interesting back stories. The cliffhanger was unexpected and I am eager to see what happens next.

so sweet and great plot

This was really good. There have been such crappy rejected omega books lately. It’s good to see there are still a few authors out there actually giving it their all and now just writing the same old storyline

On to book 2 right now…I love me that yun sun by the by. Just a good one with his calming words.

Great characters.

I did really enjoy this one. I knew I was gonna like it when just a few pages in the fmc was anger biting the heads off pink peeps. She was definitely my favorite of the characters.

The plot, while not super strong, was still good. It felt a little like the plot fell apart halfway through, and it was just pack bonding, which is totally fine, but a lot of the conversations turned therapyish. Pack bonding is definitely still 😍

Bailey-Rose was perfect. I loved that she tried to find joy in her situation by surrounding herself with all things comfort, cute, and fun. The internal struggle she had while trying to fully grasp that her guys were truly attracted to her and wanted to be with her felt real. There was nothing forced about it, which made it a lot easier to connect with her.

Honestly, most of the guys were just okay. Compared to Bailey-Rose they did feel a little bland in some areas but not enough that you didn't care about them. When they were interacting with her it was 🤌🤌🤌.

Even with the few things I didn't like it was still overall a positive for me and I'm definitely reading part two next.

I listened to the audiobook version, and I really don't recommend it. One of the MMCs has an accent, and the female voice actor uses the weirdest accent I've ever heard, while the male voice actor sounds like Dracula.

It doesn't matter what age the author said the FMC is; she acts five. She dresses like she's five. She decorates like she's five. She throws a tantrum like she's five. Even one of the MMCs says that she looks like a child. It's all the yucky feelings. She whines ALL the time. Most books have a female with low self esteem and self worth issues, but damn, this one has NOTHING good to say about herself and cries about it the ENTIRE time. It got exhausting.

The ex is the bad guy in the story, and it comes out of nowhere. She says that he NEVER acted badly towards her (except the cheating that she found out about), then he flips a switch and is psychotic. That is NOT how this works. People always have a tell. They always have little reactions that rub you the wrong way, letting you know something isn't right. He's straight up crazy and they do NOTHING ABOUT IT!! He's stalking her, harassing her, leaving threatening messages and voice mails, and they do nothing at all. They don't beat him up, call the cops, tell her family, absolutely nothing. That ending was so expected that it made me roll my eyes.

They all fell in love in a week, but didn't bond even though they knew it was safer for her.

Where did that weird self-confirmation crap come from? One of the MMCs goes to touch her scar, she pushes his hand away, and suddenly all five of them are in her room and make her give herself a pep talk. WTH? It came out of nowhere. Did they psychically talk to each other or something? Because the night before, there had been an argument, so...I would have skipped that whole scene if it weren't an audio book.

Her heart condition is always a plot mover. There were multiple times she should have had an issue and didn't, then other places where she had one, and it didn't make sense. She had an all-night sex-fest with one of the MCs, and nothing happened. They tried doing both holes, and it became too much...because...

Believe it or not, there were actually things I liked about the book. I liked the fact that she did things for the guys, giving to them as much as they gave to her. Not physical things, but just being there for them. That doesn't always happen in romances, so that was nice to read.
She also talked things through with them when there was a misunderstanding and when she overreacted.
I like the fact that the guys got in a fight and exchanged harsh words a couple of times. It made the book feel more real. All the OV books I've read so far have the guys being the bestest of friends, and it just isn't plausible. People are going to fight, argue, be possessive, have disagreements, and they NEED to talk through them. That's something this book got right.

I want to read the second one to see if reading it makes everything more agreeable for me, but it won't matter if she's still a toddler trapped in a woman's body.

Trigger Warnings;
Assault
Attempted kidnapping
attempted drugging
death of a sibling (backstory)
death of a parent (backstory)
cheating (off-page, not MMCs)
sex while sleeping that wasn't agreed upon beforehand
stalking
threatening
broken limbs (goes with the assault)
FMC has a heart condition that might be triggering for people

Omg! Elizabeth Knight has joined team Sweetverse with her first-ever Sweetverse novel, Clouds and Daydreams. I was 100% a puddle of goo for the entire book. I could not put it down, the story was addicting.

I would by no means consider myself a bright and cheery person so I find it a little surprising that I identify and love Bailey so much. Bailey-Rose Thacher is a ball of freaking sunshine. Her warm and bright personality is expressed through her fashion choices which are playful and unique without being too much. Her quirky sense of fashion is great and she has an good sense of humor. I'm amazed that she could still be so kind-hearted and have so much compassion when the world doesn't show her any cause of her health condition. She has her dark moments but she powers through.

Bailey must have some cosmicly good karma to land the pack she did. Ulysses, her brother's bf and her childhood crush, Vili the biggest teddy bear (and my favorite), Gareth the overprotective one, Yun-Sun fights for the less fortunate, and Warrick, the playful one. Each of the guys is sweet as pie. Seriously there isn't a better group of guys. It's hard to describe how fantastic they are. The guys are caring and patient, they want what's best for her, they're understanding, they listen to Bailey's wants and needs, and most of all grateful that Bailey came into their lives. Everybody just clicks. The guys are a family and Bailey completes that.

The plot was fantastic. Bailey is living with a medical condition that could be deadly. Growing up in a society telling her who she was and what she couldn't do or be was hard on her but she had the best brothers. Liz decided to do something a little different, Bailey's brothers, Crew and Eli were her main caretakers. They loved her unconditionally, cared for her and protected her the best they could, Crew being her best friend and Eli being a father figure. They gave up everything for her and won me over in just a few short chapters.

This book was the getting to know them stage. Learning all about the guys along with Bailey, I have to say they won me over immediately, I was smiling for most of this book. I loved seeing how devoted they were to her health care and her mental well-being as well. Bailey has some confidence issues due to the way society has treated her and the guys are trying to reassure her and build up her self-confidence. There was a scene right near the end that brought tears to my eyes. The guys do everything in their power to show Bailey she can live the life she wants. There wasn't any real drama except for an ex (Randall) who's an idiot. Some of the guys have family drama but that hasn't come up yet. Liz ends the story on her most dramatic cliffhanger yet and I have a feeling a lot of problems are coming for the pack in the next book.

Clouds and Daydreams was the sweetest thing I've ever read. I didn't know Liz could be that sweet. My heart melted for every character (excluding Randall, the a-hole) in this book, and gods I want more. I know we're in the middle of Bailey's story (and I'm hoping that the next book is coming soon) but I have to put it put there, I need Crew and Eli to get their HEAs. So if Liz were to do a couple of companion novels (one for each brother) it would be the best thing ever.

Meh. I’ve never been more on the fence about finishing a book or calling it quits. I did finish it, but ending up skimming a lot of sections. I do appreciate that the FMC has a chronic illness since so many books focus on perfection. She’s very hot and cold about her illness dictating her life. In one scene she could get angry about someone treating her like glass and then 180’s and goes off about her illness being important and to remember about it. Almost got whiplash from it. And I did read the note at the beginning of the book that says the author isn’t from a medical background and doesn’t claim that any of the scenes are legit. However - if she has to keep her heart rate below 80, there a 0% chance that the sexual acrobatics that are described in the story wouldn’t have straight up killed her. I debated about even reading the second book in the duet, despite it ending in a crazy cliffhanger. But because I can’t live without knowing, I obviously will. Would I recommend it? Meh.

2.5 rating.

This book was marketed as a sweet omegaverse but it really isn’t. It’s just filled with self deprecation, loathing and pandering to a fmc with absolutely no self confidence. A lot of the book was just her whining and her guys blathering about how they were made for each other and would build her up but then destroy that sentiment by also acting like she was a toddler that couldn’t even walk a straight line.
The guys were also horrible to each other. They acted like idiots towards each other and constantly treated each other like they were savage and untrustworthy.

I definitely skimmed so much of this book and really considered putting it down to a dnf but I finished it reluctantly. I don’t know if I will bother with the second though.

The couple: Ulysses/Warrick/Yun-sun/Vili/Gareth and Bailey-Rose

Romance trope: omegaverse; reverse harem
Series: Sunshine and Rainbows Omegaverse
Length: 387 pages

Plot: Bailey-Rose is an omega but is doubtful about her future with a pack. Her heart disorder means that normal exertions, such as sex and having a baby, are much trickier. Her last boyfriend found her inadequate and she's worried everyone else will also. That is, until her brother's best friend comes back home and they discover she's his scent match. He comes with a pack and now they will spend time getting to know each other.

Commentary: This was definitely super sweet and low drama. We spend the majority of the book with the guys gushing over how adorable Bailey-Rose is and her feeling inferior because of her health problems. There is a spot of trouble with her ex and then a health crisis at the end of the story - it's a cliffhanger. So there's not a lot to tell because not a lot happened. Bailey-Rose gave off Little Girl vibes to me, but the author didn't take it there, which I understand. I am glad that the guys were so understanding of her health and were willing to find ways around any of the restrictions, but goodness, the doctor was pushy about the operation (which I imagine she's going to have at the beginning of the next book).

Next book in the series: Petals & Promises Part 2

If you’re looking for something light and fluffy, then look no further than Clouds and Daydreams. This story will have your sweet tooth aching.

Bailey-Rose is an omega with a heart defect. Feeling the ache of loneliness, Bailey is sure she’s meant to remain unmated. When life throws her a curveball, in the form of her brother’s best friend. It’s now up to Ulysses and his pack to show their omega just how wrong she is.

The relationship between Bailey and Ulysses, Vili, Warrick, Yun-Sun, and Gareth is a match made in omega heaven. The guys melted my heart with how amazing they were with Bailey. Plus her brothers are equally amazing and I’m hoping the author will write one of their stories next.

I was not expecting that cliffhanger and I’m dying to find out what happens in book two.

Super sweet omegaverse. Reverse harem no m/m. Although the conflict rises from Bailey-Rose having a congenital heart defect that limits and restricts her life a lot and an ex who turns into a stalker, this is still very much a sunshine and roses type novel. There is not a lot of emotional depth in the character development. I thought some details were glossed over for the plot conflict progression.

Knight is unapologetic that this is a super sweet story. So, for a light, low angst type omegaverse that probably won't push any conflict buttons, this duo is OK. You will definitely need to read book 2 as this is only half the pack story.

This book is just so ick and cringe. It is way too sugary sweet and cutesy.
The leading lady honest to God comes across as a 10-year-old and that is really disturbing when all of a sudden a random sexy scene comes in and it just gives you the ick big time because she is like a 10-year-old.
And the book was just way too slow and boring.

A super sweet story. This is a true fantasy love story, with thoughtful and gorgeous men and a sweet and fun FMC. With Bailey-Rose having a fragile heart, her newly found mates throw themselves into being everything she needs. Amidst moving her in, getting to know each other, and letting her know just how precious she is to them, her pack take the time to learn about her condition and what they can do to help her live life to the fullest.
Unfortunately there is trouble lurking in the background that none of them see coming.
While I loved the characters and their relationship development, I’m a little impatient and this one was a little slow for me. That being said, I do recommend this gorgeous read if you’re in the mood for a sugar sweet omegaverse story. I will definitely be reading the next one. Especially after that cliffhanger ending.

I only got to 16 % before I threw my kindle across the room. I’ve read aliens in space, undercover alpha omega romances, but this book by far is the hardest one to try and suspend for believability. This book is not for me.*

I did read that this was an ode to a child that passed away from a horrible heart condition. Imagining a better life for one that never got to grow up. My heart goes out to the parents and loved ones of that child.

I’m going to start with the general plot and characters. I have a lot to say about the disability representation but I’ll save that to the end. I liked the alphas in her pack. They have quite a bit of diversity in terms of jobs, background and personality. They are overall pretty adorable. There is not very much to the plot, mainly just a series of cute scenes. There is a lot less spice than many other omegaverse books and only one group scene but it’s pretty well balanced. I also really liked how she was able to be a cute ball of sunshine but also still was clearly an adult. She advocated for her own needs and had her own education, goals, and interests.

I love disability representation in books but I would have liked to see a bit more research go into it on this one. I understand artistic liberties, especially in fantasy, but we are a minority group just like any other, it’s important that if an author/artist depicts a real disability you either consult with someone who has it or do some research to make sure you’re represtation doesn’t turn into a caraciture based on stereotypes. This one wasn’t overtly offensive but there were some details that are pretty distracting and makes it clear that the author didn’t prioritize learning about us. There are tons of people in the disability community, myself included, that would love to help share information to make sure we are represented authentically.

Mild spoilers, not specific or plot related

The biggest thing I noticed is the heart rate limit of 85….really? That’s such an unrealistic number it’s wild. My husband overheard my audio book and started laughing. Even a quick google search shows that for those who have the lowest limits that number is usually between 100 and 120. For myself and others in a less restrictive category it’s more like 130-160. I thought maybe she was using a medication like a beta blocker to suppress her numbers which is still unrealistic but more reasonable, then we meet with her doctor and he suggested adding a beta blocker as an occasional treatment so it’s clearly not that. If someone really was at risk of death at a rate that low they would likely have a pacemaker to regulate the rhythm.

As someone who wears a cardiac monitor almost identical to the one in the book the intensity of the reactions to every single alert are almost comical.
For reference, this week my best health day had 15 alerts and my worst had 112. Family absolutely does check in when they see multiple alerts in a row and will act if it’s staying in the red zone and I can’t get it to come down, or we can’t figure out the reason it is staying high, but they are not going to drop everything every single time it beeps. That’s about as realistic as running to the door every time the dog barks assuming there is an intruder.
Most alerts we get are just a warning that can be ignored as long as you know what is causing the spike. For example brushing my teeth causes an alert every time, but I know it’s going to go down as soon as I’m done and it’s only 2 minutes so it’s not a problem and can be safely ignored. If I’m sitting on the couch doing nothing and get an alert that is a much bigger issue.

The other thing I noticed is that she seems totally fine with things like stairs and distance walking which are usually the most stressful on the heart. I did like the mention of adapted showers though!
