The Lilith's Legacy #1

The Vampire and the Nephilim

Rate this book
In Arimoor, an island nation cradled by the Celtic Sea, vampires, demons, and Nephilim dwell among unsuspecting humans.

Victorian orphan Violet has spent her entire life in the confines of the orphanage and the drudgery of the textile factory. She knows little of the outside world but dreams of the day she’ll turn twenty-one and win her freedom.

Violet’s familiar world shatters when a fire breaks out in the factory. She succumbs to the overwhelming heat and smoke, then awakens to a new and shocking reality – she has been turned into a vampire.

With the help of her sire, Lily, Violet slowly adjusts to her new supernatural life. They dwell within a magical forest, isolated and hiding from the mysterious Rabisu vampires, who have been hunting Lily for centuries. One day, Lily does not return from a trip to the capital city, Dorbridge, leaving Violet alone and frightened.

Cloaked in an invisibility glamour, Violet searches Dorbridge for her missing sire, to no avail. She sinks into profound despair, rarely leaving the forest and constantly sleeping. After a reclusive century, Violet is awakened by the sounds of an injured owl outside her cottage. Helping the creature stirs a spark within her – a will to live again.

Glamouring her appearance, she ventures into Dorbridge and finds the world has drastically changed. Violet encounters a young man at the university library who sees past her disguise and understands her true nature. She learns Casey is a Nephilim, with a mix of human and supernatural ancestry.

Through her budding friendship with Casey and introduction to his knowledgeable mother, Juno, Violet learns more about the modern world and its hidden beings. She resumes the search for her missing sire and forges new friendships.

While exploring the city, she meets Remi, a captivating Nephilim who awakens a passion she has never known. She also encounters an ancient and formidable vampire, Caine, who pulls her into the sinister web of the dangerous Rabisu vampires. Violet learns the Rabisu, led by the powerful matriarch, Agrat, are on a quest to enslave humanity.

When Violet and her companions confront Agrat, a battle erupts, and Remi is critically injured. Faced with a harrowing choice, Violet must decide quickly – transform Remi into a vampire without his consent or allow him to perish.

Forced to retreat to the Underworld, a mysterious realm ruled by the winged Archangel Samael, Violet and her friends face their deepest fears and discover the power hidden within themselves.

Will they rise to vanquish Agrat and save humanity, or fall to encroaching darkness?

In Arimoor, mystery, romance, and danger intertwine, forging a tale of ageless struggle and timeless love.

This one really sucked me in! I won this in a giveaway since I have been trying to open my genre borders, and I was really pleasantly surprised. It seemed like a long book at first glance but once I got into it, it flew by and I was sad it was over. It has a really enchanting fairy-tale feel to it, while also hitting all of those fun, YA comfort spots. I will absolutely be checking out your other work Ms. Hahn, thank you for the joy you brought me while reading this, and I am looking forward to book #2!

World building with a well-paced story.

The characters, locations, and events in this story create the foundation of a fantasy world full of other potentially fun and exciting stories.

Fortunately, that foundation is built while the story quickly moves along. We're introduced to a variety of likeable characters with their own goals and priorities as the world is revealed.

I thought of Neil Gaiman as I read. There's a fairytale-like quality to the story that reminded me of Stardust at first. Later, some elements and characters (no spoilers) made me think of Sandman.

This is mostly Violet's story, although we see parts of it from other interesting characters' viewpoints. If the idea of a good person in a grown-up fairytale world sounds good to you, you'll probably like Violet, her friends, and her world.

I won this Title in a Goodreads Giveaway. This was a young adult fantasy novel. It was very well written. A very entertaining read. The beginning of the story is in the year 1884. A young 17 year old girl has grown up in a bad orphanage since birth. When the orphans get a certain age they go to a sweat shop and work as slave labor. The girls are locked in their work room when a fire breaks out. Violet is quick to go into action and saves all the other girls but she herself is mortally wounded. She is saved by a kind vampire and is turned into one to save her life. Fast forward to 1994, where Violet wakes up from a long sleep. She's in for the battle of her life. What Violet doesn't know is she is more than a young vampire, her unknown origins come to light. What she learns blows her mind and puts her in the enemies path. This is a very good book, the basis of good versus evil. Does Violet and her new friends survive their battle or does evil win this time. Read the book and find out.

Unfortunately I could not get into this book and gave up at about 20%. I'm sure it is great for others, but not really my cup of tea.

I received this as a kindle Goodreads giveaway, and hands down, my favorite giveaway so far!
To say I recently fell down the vampire series rabbit-hole is an understatement. I've read at least 4 vampire based books in the last month.
But this, *chef's kiss.
I plan to buy a physical version of this since it is 1st in a series and I CANNOT wait to dive into the rest.
This is a coming of age vampire drama. Well thought out, the fantasy world is not like anything I have read. If you like the fantasy, romantasy or vampire/supernatural world at all,,, read this!

It was a pleasure reading D.A. Hahn's latest book! I thoroughly enjoyed how the characters grew and developed friendships and a few even found love during the course of the book. Writing a book about vampires is challenging, since much has been written about them and it can sometimes seem trite, but D.A. Hahn does a great job making the characters, plot, and settings fresh and keeps the reader hungry for more. Looking forward to her next book out in 2024!

Transformation

Violet starts off as a young orphan, suffering through child labor in the 1800s, virtually alone. She is transformed into a vampire and by the 1990s, is accustomed to being a vampire and forms new bonds with humans and nephilims. This story takes place in Dobridge not Arimoor.
This story is primarily told from the perspective of Violet and Casey, but at times include Remi and Lily.
Both Casey and Violet learned things about their past along the way.
This could have been a more exciting story if it did not spend so much time on the back story of Violet, covering her day to day life. It really didn't get interesting until the last 20% of the story.
This book seems like a young adult novel. It has no heat, no cursing and little violence.

A Captivating Tale of Supernatural Conflict

This book delivers an enthralling story that combines the mystique of vampires with the ancient lore of Nephilim. The tension between the two supernatural beings creates a gripping narrative filled with action, intrigue, and unexpected twists. The characters are well-crafted, each with their own unique backstory and motivations, making their interactions all the more engaging. The blend of dark fantasy and ancient mythology kept me hooked from start to finish. If you're a fan of supernatural fiction with a fresh twist, this book is a must-read. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a captivating and imaginative adventure!

This book is a unique take on the vampire, romance, and coming-of-age genres, in which the author uses a tangled skein to weave an unexpected yet majestically beautiful tapestry. The protagonist's complicated transitions and growth, balancing her own fears and needs with a larger purpose, is masterfully written, and all of the characters are rich, real entities with their own aims.
Truly, a worthy read for anyone interested in these genres, and even for many that don't normally read there (as I usually don't!).

This book seamlessly weaves together the excitement of vampire lore with the universal trials and triumphs of growing up. It explores identity, friendship, love, and sacrifice with a deft touch that will appeal to both teen and adult readers. The clean writing also makes it appropriate for younger YA audiences. This is a must-read for fans of paranormal fiction that balances heart and imagination. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

super fun read

“The Vampire and the Nephilim” is a fun coming-of-age fantasy book. Great characters with back stories: Demons, vampires, and nephilim, but with depth. Recommended for fantasy readers that love the good vs evil themes.

This book was almost a DNF for me because the writing style is not my cup of tea. However, the storyline was intriguing enough to keep reading. I’d give this a solid 3.5 stars overall.

The story itself is alright but the writing style is a bit strange. It felt almost like the person who wrote this was either ESL or really old. Lots of really formal wording and run on sentences.
