Jess left George Logan in Akron, Texas, and was now on the hunt for a man by the name of Bud Price. His hunt has taken him to the town of Silverton.
When he eliminates Price and takes his body to the marshal in the town of Two Rivers, he discovers that another wanted man, Mike Garth, almost strangled the marshal there during an escape from the jail.
While there, he meets a woman, Mable, working at the café, and agrees to escort her to a trading post. He leaves her there and continues on to the town of Opal, searching for Garth.
He finds Garth in Opal, working in a saloon. Jess dispenses his form of justice. Along the way, Jess’s old friend Shadow suddenly shows up.
What Jess also finds in Opal is Clint Baxter, a man from Michigan who wants to get started in the bounty hunting business. Baxter wants Jess to train him, but he refuses and advises him to go back to Michigan.
Jess and Baxter both end up in Two Rivers. When Baxter meets Mable’s sister, Lorretta, it’s love at first sight. But Baxter is determined to be a bounty hunter and sets off on his first hunt, while Jess gets a lead on an upcoming train robbery.
Jess finds out that Baxter is near dead and at the doctor’s office in Kale, where he attempted to capture the very dangerous Wilson brothers.
Now, Jess heads to Kale and is on the hunt for the Wilson brothers. They’re a sneaky and dangerous pair, but Jess has the help of his sometimes partner, Shadow.
In the end, will love blossom, or will there be another funeral?

In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
I love Jess Williams novels And not because my last name is Williams, but it helps. And yes there are a lot of instances of the story line that are familiar from some of the previous episodes. I think that Jess has gotten a little more cold blooded in the latter books, but we forgive him because he’s so charitable with his money, buying houses for the victims and giving a percentage of his rewards to the underpaid Sheriff’s.
My only complaint, and this is nitpicking, I think Mr. Thomas should hire a better proof reader to correct all the typos that I come across in the books. At least 5 to ten per book. I’m just saying…
I’m hooked on Jess Williams novels and will keep reading them until Jess finally settles down and gets married, moves into his lake house and Shadow comes home to stay permanently.
Jess is back on the Hunt even with a wannabe Bounty Hunter on his trail. He has no time and no patience to have anyone travel with him. Besides he says they only bring more trouble to him if he isn’t alone. Jess does his normal work of sneaky kindnesses he pours on people he meets as he travels and hunts down the most dangerous of criminals. Woe to those he catches‼️ Ready for the next 124 more books
This book was really good, it was full of different stories that were tied in together and YEAH Shadow is back!!!! The last few books were very boring. It seemed Mr. Thomas had hit a slump and I wasn't sure if I would buy any more of his books but this one changed my mind. I hope the next one proves to be a good read as well. Welcome back Mr. Thomas.
Loved the storyline about Baxter, Loretta, Mable, Two Rivers, and Sheriff Jenkins. And finally, the return of Shadow, who is really ha long lost love reincarnated as Shadow.
Another good book by this author. Great story line and characters with lots of action. As usual waiting on the next book. Would highly recommend this series to all that enjoy a good western.
I’m addicted to the Jess Williams series by Robert J Thomas. Years ago I began reading this series and I’ve never been disappointed. Every book is worth the money to me. It will be a sad day when the series ends.
Jess has a big heart for helping people. He makes great friends along the way to find bad men. Shadow joined him this time to take care of some mean ones.
Another great western about Jess and his man hunting. As always he is helping people in need. Love these books. Ready for number 125. Thank you, Robert J Thomas
Jess is still hunting the worst of the worst. Shadow joins him in this story. This book does not have the same feel as previous books. I think Jess is tired and needs to retire to one of his lake homes.
