With the sudden absence of her spa manager, Grace Keslar finds herself saddled with two businesses to run.
Heading off to tackle the health spa, Grace leaves Chauncey, her large gray crazy-whiskered cat, in control of the mansion's bed-and-breakfast. Discovering the spa operation to be less than transparent, Grace listens to her intuition and examines every corner (even the restrooms) to figure out what is amiss. Back at the mansion, Chauncey monitors fragile guests searching for something missing in their life.
Together, with only the evening hours to confer, Grace and Chauncey work to mend broken hearts, bring families back together, and catch a thief.
Really enjoyed this quick read and the various characters that play a role in the story's unfolding. It seems that online friendships and romances take a hit here, when people turn out not to be "as advertised" and/or scammers, as Lady Keslar discovers oddities going on at the spa as well as with her guests at the Mansion. I didn't care for one part of the ending; the rather paranormal explanation Grace gives to one of her guests. Otherwise the story was quite believable, and a good warning not to trust unknown online acquaintances.
This series is standalone and this is the conclusion of this trilogy.
Here's a handy reference for the Keslar Mansion Staff: Imogene - Inside Management Stanley - Outside Management Alice (Kassie Jackson) - beds Thumper (Melissa Udall) - duster Claret (Kim Beaumont) - floors Fig (Darryl Figgins)–handyman Verdi (Doug Peterson)–handyman and driver.
Mary Lynch once lived in Spicetown, she is here to meet up with a Tom a professor she connected with on the internet. He had dated her roommate in college and remembered Mary. He helped her emotionally get through her divorce and now they'd be meeting for the first time in person.
Mary paid for both of them to stay at the Keslar Mansion. She is excited to show off her hometown and she also wants to reconnect with some of the people she knows.
There are other guests arriving at the Keslar Mansion as well, the first of those to arrive are Sue and Jim. Sue likes crafts and shopping and looks forward to visiting the Spa, but Jim just wants to go fishing.
Shannon French and Wendy Norman are going to be checking out the spa, Shannon's grandmother gave her this holiday as a birthday gift. It seems her grandmother wants her to meet the man of the house. However, Grace is a widow.
Then there's Lily and Fay friends coming for the spa, and Nick who says he has business around town.
It's when Jill Seabrook calls Grace that things don't go as usual. Jill manages the spa, and she has a family emergency and needs to leave immediately. Grace would have to take care of both the Spa and the Mansion for a while.
When Grace arrives at the Spa it looked like Adam, Jill's assistant was planning on spending the day on her computer. Grace has no intention of letting him into the financial aspects of the Spa and she's more than a little curious when a delivery comes in.
Grace will be taking a much closer look at the handling of the ordering and other financials at the spa the next few days.
Their guest Nick, we see looking at maps of property and owners from the 70's. Then later we see him sitting in his car just looking at neighborhoods. Of course, this spooks some of the residents and one of my favorite characters, Harvey 'Saucy' Salzman reports it to the Mayer Cora Mae Bingham and the Chief Conrad Harris.
Then there's Mary's friend Tom who still hasn't shown up. His texting her is erratic and her friend Deputy Georgia Marks is more than a bit skeptical about the man and his intentions with her friend.
Shannon is something a bit different what with her relationship with her grandmother being so new.
I also enjoy the chats Grace has with Mr. Chauncey, there's something really special about him.
It's really fun and interesting to see how all these characters intertwine into the story and how the different mysteries get solved. Have you figured out who the man of the house is?
I am now going to start the Spicetown Mystery Series. I want to know all these characters better.
Sheri writes great stories and I am loving the Keslar mansion series just as much as the Spicetown series. I love the cross over of the characters. I started reading the Spicetown series because I was looking for something set in Ohio for a book challenge and found some new friends.
I recommend all of the Spice Town books I read everyone of them within 2 weeks and the 3 cat ones and the craft store ones could not put them down. I would give them 10 stars.
Another well written volume, but it brings me sadness that it’s come to an end. Grace Keslar is a pivotal figure and I hope there will be more volumes full of mystery, interesting characters and intriguing stories!
I haven't read the other books of the Keslar mansion, but in this one Grace Keslar and her cat Chauncey are wonderful characters. There is a bit of a mystery and a lot of people very interested in helping to solve the mystery... I highly recommend this book... !
I binge read all three of these Keslar mansion books. Grace Keslar and Chauncey her cat are lovely characters. There is a bit of a mystery in each book and a lot of very nice folks that help solve the mysteries. I hope there will be more books.
