Storm Totem was a fast-paced and fun portal fantasy - I just genuinely had a great time reading this book. The characters have a variety that I found easily keeping me engaged (with a special note to Vex being an absolute treasure for his naive confidence and humor).
Storm Totem’s plot rapidly expands in scope and weight from the plot of Beast Mage - the stakes are higher, the enemies are stronger, and the excellent action scene writing makes for an enthralling story. The deeper look we get into the history of Oras and the Primeval pantheon sets up what I fully expect to be a fantastically wild ride as the Mana Beasts story continues.
Absolutely recommend this book, especially if you already enjoyed Beast Mage!
I thought this was another great Derek book-----During my reading, I never thought Kellen was going to be able to get out of where he was, but then at the end---he did with vex as now he is at Gueardian Stage with Vex, and his new girl friend from Gray Dawn. I just have to say I have NOT been bored with any of Derek's books-----he is a great writer and knows how to keep his readers entertained with his books.. Keep writing Derek-----I have a feeling book three will be about Allison trying to find Kellen.
The story continued to be engaging, and we learned more about the world, the Storm Horse tribe, the history, and the over arching "struggle" that Kellen finds himself in the middle of. There continues to be a deepening of the characters, and we learn more about the past of the characters who are from Oras. I found the plot line that has been laid out, and the way the book wrapped up to provide some interesting possibilities and I'll be interested in seeing what happens next whenever book 3 is published.
This story further shows the development of the characters as real people. The ever-present fight of good vs. evil we all face and the struggle we each face to decide. This would is filled with characters we grow with, and a limitless number of books that can be written to further expand on. I hope you read and feel a part of this wonderful world as I did, and come away with the only sadness that there's only 2 books to explore. Truly love these books.
I love it when I can mostly forsee an ending but still shocked that my prediction was partially accurate! And I didn't expect things to turn out like that! Nevertheless, such an ending added to an already fantastic and engaging story! Following from the first book, the characters and plot were still on point and written well! I feel more invested then I was before and I look forward to what happens next! If the next book is not out already, I eagerly wait to read what happens next!
We continue with the story a bit after the events of book 1, this one deals with the cultists again who are trying to do some nefarious stuff in the Storm Horse lands. Kellen and company have to stop them, while also growing stronger. Also Shani and Inferi have to work on their bond, because it’s not right and causing problems.
Intense and fast paced. A real page turner. Vex is so hilarious!! I laughed out loud so many times! Not all fun though. Many battles and bad guys. I just found Mr. Siddoway with the first book. I will definitely finish the series and read more of his books.
I've devoured both Mana Beast tomes and found them utterly spellbinding. The captivating narrative had me hooked, leaving me desperate for more magical mayhem. Here's hoping the author conjures up some additional enchanting installments, or I may be forced to resort to sorcery to uncover the characters' fates.
Storm Totem is the 2nd amazing book in a series I hope will continue for a while. When I told a friend about the kind of book I'd be interested in, this was the book series my friend suggested; and I am so glad I started reading it! Keeping my fingers crossed that the next books in the series come out soon!
If you’re like me and love a good fantasy series with strong magic system development then you’re on for a treat! Fast paced and full of adventure. Plus it’s clean and isn’t gritty and dark but full of laughter and hope. Can’t wait to see what comes next!
This wasn't as good as the first book. The magic/interference at the Storm Totem kept changing without sufficient explanations. And what happened within was pretty confusing as well. The pacing continued to be good though, so I managed to finish this book.
Ohhhh yeah it was a no-brainer to kickstart the second book in Derek Alan Siddoway's series. Although it took me about a minute to jump back into the new book, as the first story seemingly ended a story ARC. So I had to get my feet back under me as I listened to the start of my new book. Turns out that a lot of the clans are protected by a Storm Totem. When the Totems are threatened all the clans gather for a War Council. And for Kellen it's time that he and Vex, his mana beast, power-up! Getting Travis Baldree to narrate these books was brilliant. I know I received an early release (kickstarter again) but I can't wait for the next exciting book 😄!
