I'm all for a smutty holiday novella, but, everything about this book was subpar. The writing, plot, romance, characters, and sex were all completely lacking. If you are going to write a story where the plot is the sex, at least write good sex scenes! Everything about this book just felt forced, the three best friends didn't feel like friends to me and they just straight up jumped into a relationship after barely having seen each other over the years. Also, why do authors like to write DP scenes without lube? PSA to all authors out there, spit, I repeat spit, is NOT lube.
am i? into this???? no no i can't be julian can call me a sweetheart anytime tho😮💨, i did enjoy this to a certain level, however the plot was weak tbh, the characters were good i just didn't really FEEL the connection between the three of them I'm in a love hate relationship with this one ugh, i can't decide between 2 or 3 star rating so i'll leave it at 2.5 because it was all smut, no plot and it didn't feel like a holiday novella (like i said before, i still enjoyed it to a level hehehe🫠❤️)
Home for the holidays to Delmont Ridge, best friends Raegan Thompson, Miles Walker, and Julian Foster reconnect.
Taking advantage of their time together, an impromptu ski trip brings long-buried truths into the open.
It took everyone a minute to get on the same page. But when the spice hit, it HIT! These naughty boys made up for lost time in a big way!
This spicy little holiday story is novella length. So, not a lot of character development, but there’s a shared history making it work without being awkward or feeling like there’s something missing. I really enjoyed these characters and would love to see them again at some point. Last thing, I also loved seeing Cali take the spice next-level!!

I really wanted to like this but so much of it felt so forced. A lot of the conversations between the 3 main characters didn't feel natural at all.
The spicy scenes were rushed, and also not natural. Especially when they're having dinner with their parents and the guys are sitting on either side of her fingering and touching her. Like come on the people across the table couldn’t see their arms moving and crossed over to her lap? Especially one of them who is eating left handed when he’s right? Sus.
Or when Raegan has them both at the same time In the theatre while their parents are upstairs and she's never done that before and there's like zero preparation. NO LUBE?!? She’s a literal virgin back there…ouch. No way she would’ve been able to be quiet while all of their parents are literally UPSTAIRS. Like come on!! The spicy scenes just didn't feel organic at all. 😩
Reagan's thought process even towards the end of the book was strange to me even in the epilogue still not believing that they want her. But I guess she would think that way since there was like zero relationship building between these 3 at all the whole book. They all felt like friends with benefits not friends who have secretly liked each other for almost 15 years and are now supposed to be in a relationship. Idk weird.
Also, the book is called “the Christmas exchange”….what exchange exactly even took place? Can anyone enlighten me 😅
Probably the least favorite book I’ve read all year.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
loved the spice in this, not to spicy but just enough. but everyone is different so it could be to much for them or not. i would’ve gave it a 5 stars if i got more from the characters and not just smut.
There were definitely parts of The Christmas Exchange that could have used some work… I’ll admit, a few of the conversations made me cringe a little. But honestly? The friends-to-lovers trope saved it all. It’s my kryptonite, and this book delivered it with just the right amount of cuteness to win me over 🎀
The story was full of Christmas vibes and had me giggling more than once, and at the end of the day, that’s all that really matters in a holiday romance, isn’t it?
Oh, and do we need to talk about the "Cruel Prince" reference? I mean, is there a faster way to my heart than mentioning my absolute favorite book? No, there is not. Period.
It’s not perfect, but it’s festive, fun, and gave me a little serotonin boost, so I’d still call it a win ✨
Cali Melle's spicy novella The Christmas Exchange follows Raegan Thompson, Julian Foster, and Miles Walker.
Because it was short, I thought it would be fast-paced and lack connection between the characters, but I was wrong because there was a lot of tension between them from the beginning.
The characters in MFM romances are typically difficult to distinguish from one another, but I really loved every character in this book and thought they were all perfect for one another in spite of their differences.
Also, Cali will always be an incredible writer of wonderful characters and hot asf smut scenes
All in all, this was a very hot and fun read, which was expected from Cali, since she never lets me down.
*Thank you to the author, Cali Melle, in exchange for an honest review.*
The Christmas Exchange is a quick and dirty why choose novella following three high school friends who are reunited for Christmas.
Reagan returns home for Christmas to find her two best friends, Julien and Miles, home as well. Their attraction to each other ramps up when they decide to go on a quick skiing trip before Christmas.
The angst between the three friends is lukewarm at best. This lack of tension is due to the limited page count. I wish Melle would have spent more time with the characters at the ski lodge developing their attraction instead of telling readers they’ve always found each other attractive.
The dialogue is clunky at times, which pulled me out of the story.
Melle’s spice is excellent. Their eventual coupling and subsequent scenes are fire hot, especially the dinner table moment.
The Christmas Exchange has the potential to be an incredible full length novel with either multiple flashbacks or a time jump. There is a lot of history between these three friends that would have been delicious to see explored.
Overall, The Christmas Exchange is a quick and dirty why choose romance to keep you warm on those cold winter nights.
I had such a good time reading this. I do love a good reverse harem story and this novella was the perfect hit of Christmas spice! Being a novella there is not a lot of development and the plot is fairly basic, however, for the amount of time we get with these characters I think we got to know them pretty well. I'm definitely glad I picked this one up!
If there’s any action this book provoked, I can assure you it’s not kicking my feet and giggling, it’s wanting to take a walk on the highway. What the 🦆 was that.
okay this is the holiday book, we bookish girlie need.
why look for one man when you can get two, who don't mind sharing you.
throuple romance or MFM is such a fun treat to reach because it keeps you satiated, make it in a novella format and I love it more.
THE BOOK WAS HOT HOT HOT AND I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF ITS
Raegan, Miles and Julian have personalities so different from each other that they automatically compliment.
The whole one bed thing made me giggle like a kid.
Novellas are really difficult to connect with because they feel rushed but since the characters had a shared history it was easy to put it part and just enjoy the love <3
I was given the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When Raegan comes home for the holidays, the last thing she expects is to finally hook up with her best friends. The two best friends who she has had feelings for for years, but never wanted to ruin the friendship.
Well that all comes to a head when Julian and Miles realize that she feels the same way they do. So they go away on Christmas Eve for one night to see what could happen between them. And man oh man, their chemistry is absolutely explosive! The fact that they all have wanted each other for years and are finally allowing themselves to give in just makes it so much hotter.
This novella was short and oh so spicy and I loved it! I’m hoping Cali puts out more books like this because I will absolutely eat them all up!
The way this why choose made me feel so giddy. I got the same feelings from this book as I did from faking with benefits. I loved all the characters 😭 and their dynamic.
✨ Small town ✨ MMF ✨ Spicy 3/5 🌶️ ✨ One bed ✨ Friends to lovers
What a great little novella! I do wish it was longer so that there would be more in depth character development. It would’ve been a total five star read if it was a bit more fleshed out. I like that they had history and were so comfortable around each other because of it. Made the guys willing to share more believable. And those spicy scenes were hottt! Would’ve liked to see more into the future and their families reactions to their relationship, but now I’m just nitpicking. A great read for when you have an hour or two!
Safety: OW: woman flirts and touched one of the H’s in a bar (before they are together). h chases her away 😅 No OM No cheating No separation / no third act break up
This book centers around Raegan and her two childhood best friends Julian and Miles. Raegan returns home to spend time with her mom and ends up reconnecting with her childhood best friends. They propose a pre-Christmas ski trip just like old times. Only a mistake with the booking and an unexpected snowstorm puts a wrench in their plans when they become snowed in with only one bed available.
Aside from one tiny slip up as teens, Raegan has never crossed any lines with either of her friends, but old feelings are starting to resurface during this vacation. And as I’m sure you can imagine, things get steamy fast in this novella.
It’s a fast paced read that can be devoured in just a few short hours. These characters dive right in and there’s no time for a third act break up! It was an interesting departure from Cali’s recent works. From my understanding, she hasn’t written MFM in a while and never under this name. While it’s not my favorite piece that she’s written, it was an entertaining read and felt perfect for the holidays. It’s worth the read purely for the tension between these friends.
A big thank you to Cali and LB for the eARC! It’s a pleasure to be on the ARC team.
3.75-4 stars had a great time reading this. If you’re looking for a Christmas Short Reverse harem the Christmas exchange is perfect for u. The spice in this book was spicy 😏ykyk. It’s a novella so don’t expect a lot from it. Short , fast paced, smutty. “Sharing is caring” 😏
Tropes -MFM -best friends in love with the same girl - willing to share her
“Dark and light. Yin and Yang. Two pieces that made up my heart.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Cali delivered the perfect push into the holiday season. This Christmas novella hit just right. This was a bit different from Cali’s normal writing style and I loved every second of it. This why choose childhood friends to lovers was snow meltingly hot.
“There’s no escaping us, sweets. If you decide to run, we’ll follow.”
Santa delivered Reagan not one but two beautifully wrapped gifts in the form of her two childhood best friends Miles and Julian. Who she was secretly pining over but never wanted to ruin the friendship. Reagan went back to her home town for a visit during the holidays and made plans with her besties to go on an overnight ski trip. While hanging out, secrets start to get revealed and she finds out that they have always had the same feelings for her. They mutually decide to take this friendship further. Holy Moly they sure showed her how they felt in EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. It was Hot, Hot, Hot. Chapter 17 bursted into flames. This novella was so well written. On a side note Julian was my favorite. Bring on the grumpy silent one. Swooning. If you’re looking for a quick why choose holiday novella this is the one for you.
“You’re ours, sweetheart.”
Tropes: small town, why choose, MFM, friends to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, one bed, childhood friends.
Cali you never cease to amaze me. 🤌🏼🫶🏼 Thank you so much for the ARC.
