As I began to learn about night sky photography I ran into the name Alyn Wallace numerous times. Searching for info about him I discovered his YouTube channel. I learned a lot from his videos. I knew he had written a book boat that it also had sold out. I kept watching his videos and learned that he passed away about a year ago. In his 30 when he died, Alyn left a legacy that includes teaching and displaying gathered night sky. He accomplished so much and his loss rocked the landscape Astrophotography world. He will be missed. His family updated the book and released a second, memorial edition. I bought one and am very glad I did.

The book is comprehensive and easy to read. The images it contains are wonderful and inspiring. The section on the Aurora borealis is highly technical and yet contains great guidance about the photographic process leading to stunning images. Other sections of the book are detailed guide to clothing, gear, processing images, astronomy basics, and much, much more.

I recommend this book highly if you are learning the astrophotography process. It’s beautifully laid out and the printing is top notch.

Just a great book.

I am still at the middle of the book, but it has already paid off every euro I have spent on it. My only wish is to have it a year ago, when I only started looking into astrophotography as it would have helped me not to make many mistakes and save a bunch of money on equipment that I don't really need (yet), but spend on something that is more useful... It has exactly the kind of information that a newcomer in astrophotography needs to start with: theory, equipment, planning and field practical advices, post-processing, etc. Literally, every aspect I can think about.

The book is written in a nice and cheerful language, and very down to the point. It contains lots of recommendations, and personal remarks that are not forced on you, but look like a friendly advices. I can feel that it is written by an engineer as most of not all of the suggestions are backed by the data and simple explanations of the physical processes behind it, so that you understand why, not just blindly follow the advice. I am an amateur photographer for 20 years now and some things were still eye-opening for me. While this book is all about landscape/wide-angle astrophotography, it briefly ventures into the realm of the deep space astrophotography (DSO), and as I am also starting my first tries in that area it answered many of my newbie's question that are usually scattered in different articles and forums, which was super helpful. Remember though, that this is _not_ a book about DSO photography.

Last, but not the least it is wonderfully illustrated with Alyn's photos and some other astrophotographers. It keeps you motivated while reading the book as you cannot help but imagining you making the similar shots.

The only sad part is that it is gonna be a one of a kind book... The astrophotography community has lost one of its brightest starts. Rest in peace, and thank you, Alyn.
