Wicca is the fastest-growing religion on today's college campuses, and is even featured on the covers of popular teen magazines. Christian teens need to know what to believe when it comes to witchcraft. Dewitched equips teens to carry on intelligent conversation with someone from a Wiccan background, know how to defend their faith to a Wiccan, and notice signs of Wicca or witchcraft in their culture. Dewitched is the must-have resource for any teen, youth pastor, or parent who wants good solid information and advice from a Christian perspective about this popular but dangerous religion.
Baker doesn't seem to have used any scholarly sources about Wicca or Satanism, and is determined to paint them as sister religions. Right from the beginning his depiction of the witch (the villain in the story) as an environmentalist and feminist just makes me suspicious that the author is mocking environmentalism and feminism. So I automatically can't take him seriously.
In the author's defense, he does warn that his Christian POV might be frustrating to non-Christian readers. However, I am a Christian reader, and I find it frustrating. I don't think it's a Christian POV as much as a narrow minded, unresearched, fear-mongering POV.
When I think about young Christians having debates with young Wiccans based on knowledge of Wicca they might have gotten from this book... well that's just embarrassing.
Poorly written. Goes back and forth between informational text and a fictional story. The informational text is not very useful. The story tries so hard to be shocking and horrifying but just fizzles out into predictability. I found the informational text to be skewed towards scare tactics. While nuggets of truth could be found, they were completely buried within the sensational and scary drama. I wouldn't read it again.
