The text says one thing and the illustrations say quite another in this darling picture book where the cutest, floofiest cat has a very busy, very mischievous day!
Floof is floofy. Floof has many hobbies. Floof has very important work to do and Floof also has a lot of friends. Floof is about to have a very busy day…
An irresistible new picture book for cat-lovers, cute-lovers, and anyone who has ever been a little bit mischievous!
The full circle of a day in the life of Floof, a cat who is very floofy and who has a very busy (mischievous) day ahead! Floof likes to garden (sleep in a potted plant), play with friends (mice), and disappear (in cardboard boxes), among other things. Absolutely adorable illustrations of the floofy gray kitty; a must-read for cat lovers.
i didn't like this one as much as i expected to and i'm not sure why. maybe i expected more from heidi mckinnon? maybe i read four really great cat storytime options before this one so it just didn't measure up? it's maybe too subtle for my storytime group. i don't know. keeping it on my list for next time i do a cat storytime though.
I will be the first to admit that animal books are not so much my thing, but this one is cute and the cat in it gets into a lot and has a very adventurous day. This is one that kids are sure to love!
FLOOF is a delightfully silly board book about a cat. Floof is very floofy and good at making trouble around the house on his very busy day. For instance, Floof ignores his food and instead eats the people food, ruins a computer for his very important work, and takes the ball from the neighboring dog, who is not his friend - unlike the mice who eat all the food in Floof's house. The simple text tells a somewhat different story from the illustrations that show all the antics Floof gets up to during the day.
What I loved: This was absolutely a delightful and silly read that young readers are sure to giggle at. Floof has plenty of antics shown throughout the story, and the pictures really tell the story of what he does during the day. The text does not always tell the whole picture, and the images are definitely needed for the contrast with reality. Children will love this juxtaposition and find joy in the (mostly mild) trouble.
The text is very simple with few words on each page, letting the images tell the story. As such, it's also a great pick for early readers, who can decipher it themselves, and for word recognition as caregivers read aloud. The simplicity adds to the fun of the story of a cat who lives life on his own terms and the trouble he creates along the way.
Final verdict: FLOOF is a delightful and engaging picture book about cat with plenty of antics that is sure to make readers giggle. I would recommend this for older preschoolers and young elementary aged readers that love a bit of trouble and exploring illustrations.
Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.
Floof is a fluffy, floofy cat who loves mischief-making. He's very busy all day. He has tons of work to do: unrolling the toilet paper, spilling coffee on the laptop, teasing the dog--(who is not his friend, but Floof doesn't care), playing in an empty box, rolling the ball for the dog--teasing again!, napping in a plant, napping in the laundry, napping on a stack of books. He's VERY busy.
The illustrations tell the true story of Floof. He's a busy cat to be sure. His "work" is anything but work. For anyone who has ever loved a cat, Floof is the epitome of catastic. He's high energy, funny, silly, and a real charmer.
Floof is a fun picture book for ages two and up. Readers will compare Floof to their own cat or cats they've known.
Highly recommended for all animal lovers and little troublemakers. A must-have for every bookshelf and library.
If you are looking for a fun, cute book about a cat, this one fits the bill. Floof is indeed very floofy; almost fill up the two-page spread floofy. Floof quickly proves to be a very typical sort of cat. Floof reads (naps), gardens (naps), and plays a (damaged) guitar. Floof enjoys hanging out in a box, working (getting in the way) on the computer, and spending time with friends (mice?!). Surprisingly, Floof isn't bothered by the dog, but does enjoy swiping the dog's ball after the lights are out. Floof is a very cute, if rather mischievous cat that young readers are bound to enjoy hearing about over and over again. Anyone who has a cat is likely to recognize elements of their pet in this very relatable tale. During story time, adults can expect to hear all kinds of stories about pets to go along with this amusing story. The illustrations are quite friendly and fun. There is much fun to be had reading this enjoyable story.
I really do hope that you are a cat person, and if you’re not, this book is sure to change your mind. Floof by Heidi McKinnon showcases the badass side of cats in a way that’s anything but boring.
The story follows Floof, a cat with a big personality and even bigger adventures. Floof’s boldness and confidence are portrayed in a way that’s both humorous and endearing, showing that these creatures are full of surprises and have their own brand of heroism.
I think you’ll love the way the book brings out the special qualities of cats and makes their antics come to life. I can’t wait for you to read it and discover how extraordinary cats can be.
Floof is the floofiest!! That’s what my kids scream now whenever they see a fluffy kitten. My 7 yr old boy really enjoyed this book. The short phrases and sentences was perfect for a beginner reader. The illustrations are drawn very well and funny at times. Even my 9 yr old thought the book was ‘fun’. This book is perfect for read along and especially for classrooms or small group settings. You won’t be disappointed in this kitty tale! I received a free copy from Workman Publishing in exchange for a free and unbiased review.
Bonus star because "It's sooo FLUFFYYYY!" It's a really simple story but so relatable if you have a cat in your life. Floof is adorable and Floof knows it. Floof will be by your side enhancing your day in the floofiest way. Floof eats. Floof has important work to do (at the computer, of course -- on the computer, that is). Floof plays music (with the guitar strings) and reads (well, sleeps, on top of the stack of books). Floof makes me smile, even if the book really is a bit of fluff sometimes that's what we need ;-)
Floof was an adorable read all about a fluffy cat and their busy day.
The very fluffy cat on the cover of this book caught my eye and I enjoy picture books centered around cats so I was looking forward to picking this up. The story follows Floof during one day of their life and talks all about Floof's various hobbies. From favorite nap spots to Floof's friends, this book was quite entertaining. I enjoyed the illustration style with it's bright, colorful drawings with the drawings of Floof being the best.
Overall Floof was a fun read and I would highly recommend it for readers who enjoy cats.
