Beautiful book. Cool photos of the flowers and arrangements they go into. Fantastic directions, step-by-step including all the tools you need. I enjoyed the layout that showed all the tools one might use and what hey are used for. It was a lot like a cook book and all the kitchen tools you’ll need to bake. I learned a bunch of new ways to arrange and look forward to trying these ideas out, My future arrangements will be much bigger and eye catching thanks to ElizabethJaime and this great book.
Thanks to the Publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
Flowering by Elizabeth Jaime is a book on how to create your own flower arrangement's. Sadly the majority of tutorial's focus more on tropical or exotic flowers. I feel the concept can be converted to other types of flowers with some thought and practice and the visuals are stunning.
I was glad to see other options than floral foam to try and her section on tools and flower prepping is very educational. I also like that she breaks it down by what is worth investing in if your a hobbyist or want to try your hand at professional arranging.
I think the pictures are stunning and my only complaint (which isn’t really a complaint per say) is that adding a section of more common flowers and a section for beginners as well as more seasoned flower arrangers would be helpful. Or a rating of easy to difficult of both the arrangements or working with particular types of flowers might help those of us use new to trying our own.
Overall I loved the book and have already pre-ordered a copy for myself.
This is a great book for people who enjoy contemporary floral arrangements. The author states that she wanted to write a book that read like a cookbook and she accomplished her goal. The book has beautiful photos and indeed, for each arrangement, there is a recipe including the flowers, the quantity of the flowers, the tools needed, such as a vase with a specific opening, the base that will hold the arrangement and miscellaneous "ingredients." On the following page, she lists the step by step instructions for each arrangement.
There is a section for smaller and more creative arrangements for parties. And another for "statement" arrangements. I like that she suggests using your local garden shop of floral supply store for flowers and accessories, but she also provides some other resources in case you cant find what you want locally. She also offers tips on how to transport arrangements.
Do keep in mind that this book is for contemporary arrangements and not the traditional kinds you can find in the grocery store.
If you have flower arranging interests, beginner or expert, you're in for a a detailed, comprehensive journey through easy. contemporary floral arrangements. The glossy pages, filled with flower arrangements, photos explaining a few basic principles and techniques for success, and informative content & photos of the tools necessary for arranging makes for easy understanding and a top notch reference book on the subject of flower arranging. I especially like the section on the actual mechanics of arranging flowers, since I'm a beginner in this endeavour. The small flower glossary is helpful for growing or shopping for flowers. The majority of the book is the 360 arrangements, with directions and full page colored picture of the arrangement. "Flower on..."
Talk about stunning! I loved looking through this book! Would make a perfect coffee table book. Fun fonts, gorgeous photos and easy to follow instructions make this book a winner. Very fun and whimsical.
A beautiful book. Filled with stunning photography, helpful tips, and detailed step-by-step instructions, this book is a staple for anyone looking to create an amazingly gorgeous flower arrangements.
This is an amazing guide for creating beautiful and creative floral arrangements. With details like which vases to use and what the arrangements best serve, it includes all the basics to get started on your own arrangements.
Flowering by Elizabeth Jaime is exactly what I hoped it would be. I love flowers. A beautifully arranged collection of flowers can make my day. I am more of an appreciator of art than a creator of art. Thankfully, Elizabeth shares her hard-earned knowledge in a format that makes it easy, even for a non-creative like me. She literally approaches this like a cookbook. Ingredients based on location and season and pictures with step-by-step how to arrange the beautiful arrangements she shares. This is truly a fool-proof tool for anyone to be able to create beautiful flower displays. I walked away with practical knowledge as well confidence to just experiment and try. I definitely recommend this for all those who appreciate flowers and are either ready to step out of the non-creative box or step up their game. Either way, it is a win-win. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
This book contained some good basic information for flower arranging, and care of the cut flowers. It discussed use of a variety of containers for making floral arrangements.
There were photo examples of the author’s modern floral arrangements so that you could copy the look, if you were so inclined. Just note, the arrangements were very modern. I prefer a more classic look in my flower arrangements. I found some of the examples to be strange looking, and sparse.
I was hoping to find more useful information in this book. It just was not the look for me. Folks interested in very modern, contemporary arrangements would probably like trying this author’s ideas.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.
This was an interesting book to read, having grown up around flowers all of my life from my mother, there were never any flower arrangements in the house.
I enjoyed the detailed information provided, The layout of the chapters were easy to follow and well thought out. The floral arrangements are nice, interesting and fun to look at. From what I saw, I would say the author has a modern-traditional taste in floral designs. Learning that there are lingo for floral arrangements was new to me, much appreciated. Readers who are into floral arrangements will enjoy the section where there are flower arrangement recipes. Some of my favorites are the "Reflexed Rose Explosion", "Tropical(ish)- the shape gives me turkey vibes, "Good Things Come In Threes".
Something that kind of bothered me was the mention of "unnecessary" information that was left out on one of the chapters. Being a detailed person, the information may not have been unnecessary to someone who lived in different planting/climate zone, and who used certain flowers that thrived in their area. I Also feel that there could have been more larger pictures. I agree with one other reviewer who mentioned that with this being a floral book, I would expect to see larger photos and more arrangements. Overall , this book was informative and definitely recommended, which is why I provided a 4 star. Wish I could give 4 1/2.
I am a novice at flower arrangement. This book was very clear about tools and directions. Most importantly, there were a lot of visuals. The photography was pretty and simple. I enjoyed just looking at the images of all the flowers. I liked how the instructions for the arrangements were done in clear, step by step visuals, and each had their own style. I'd recommend this for someone who wants to get into flower arranging and wants some recipes to get started.
