this was not what i was expecting, therefore the rating but OBVIOUSLY i can’t judge a book bc it wasn’t what i thought it was.
talking about what the book is, mhmmm just not for me, there’s a lot of valid and useful information on this tho but it’s all just about luxurious life in london, more than about actual FASHION in london. also more related to architecture than clothing.
i mean, great, i even marked some pages bc i found stuff interesting fr. but yeah i didn’t know anything about the author or what was i getting myself into and i thought it was more about fashion styles, fashion history, fashion brands, fashion trends in london throughout time bla bla bla more than “this place is so pretty bc of this this and this and OH they also sell clothes”
idk NO HATE AT ALL. just not my thing, also not what i was expecting.
if this is your thing and what you were expecting then 10/10. so just saying, no hate, a complete subjective review.
Love, love, love this book. With England being my second home I loved reading about the fashion, hotels and where to dine whilst soaking up the illustration and colour. I always look forward to Megan Hess' projects.
Love this book and the others in the series! Beautiful and original illustrations combined with a guide through the city through the upper crust’s perspective in the respective cities. Also I really like the escapism the books provide. I would like it if she releases books that cover other places.
3,8/5 Welcome to the grandeur city centre of cultural theft and opulent descriptive words. New challenge: mention at least one place that is not private members only. Megan's illustrated fashion city guides has always been my favourite work of hers. But what I have always had a problem with, is the overly detailed description of something "never seen before", only to illustrate something absolutely insignificant to it and not what is being described with such an awe. That I will never understand. That and the riches obsession with alcohol. But aside from that, it is quite well put together guide just as the previous ones, divided into parts based on interest and full of beautiful illustrations. Even though I don't see most of the recs being any useful to anyone who is not filthy rich. But considering the focus of interest of the author's work being high fashion, even higher life standards and luxury, I cannot really mark that as a negative of the book.
A lovely escapist read with an abundance of beautiful illustrations and intriguing descriptions of some of Londons finest establishments. Any chance of Megan Hess coming to Dublin?
