Trapped in the past and hunting a serial killer? Of course Zatanna's birthday got magically messed up.
Continuing from the Webtoons tale—when Zatanna is attacked and bested by a powerful sorceress, her father casts a spell to protect her and send her away from the chaos she's caught in the middle of.
Zatanna arrives in Whitechapel, London, in the year 1888. She soon discovers a serial killer plaguing the streets of the city, Jack the Ripper. Unable to return home and certain that the supernatural killer has answers, Zatanna sets out in pursuit of the Ripper alongside the denizens of Whitechapel and one John Constantine.
I feel like the last collection solved the problem I was having where Constantine and Zatanna were on separate paths and then this one went and reintroduced it and no!!!
This is from episode 21 to 36 and omg so many things happened and it’s getting deep. Zatanna and John broke me omg I hope they will get back together Both the ripper and Zatanna’s dad archs are so interesting I can’t wait to find out the truth
This was a much faster read than the other two books as this one was thinner so it was easy to finish in an hour or so.
For some reason I kind of liked this one better than the first two? It felt... more streamlined? It seemed like it made more sense to the characters that I know (obviously the writer is allowed to put a spin on it). John seemed more John like which is what I like.
What I really don't like is the stylization of Zatanna's magic where she says things backwards - the stylization in these books for me is very hard for me to read so I don't even bother trying to understand what she's saying.
I also like the new character they added in :) I just hope all the questions are wrapped up in the 4th book... cause I have a lot of questions.
This delightful little webcomic wrapped up beautifully. The story had a fitting ending and the artwork was stunning throughout. Zatanna's character arc is well-written and so much fun to follow. I had such a great time reading this series. Can't wait to go back and re-read it.
This volume starts a little slow, but picks up the pace at the end and this series is quickly becoming one of my favorite DC offerings in the last 10 years. A good mix of the modern with a classic comic feel.
Respectfully, I too would use magic to go no-contact with man who lied to me🤷♀️ even if he was also the only other person who could help me get back to the future😂
I'm still enjoying this series overall, but this volume did feel like it dragged a bit. I was hoping we'd make a bit more progress on solving the mystery at this point.
EDIT: No, I did not reread this. I am just adding a reread so my GR reading goal aligns with my Storygraph reading goal because apparently "WEBTOONS DON'T COUNT AS READING" and so some (only some) have been removed from the database 🙄
