Bernie Dupree held a very high position in purchasing with the James Scott and Company food supplier. He mastered several positions prior to arriving at the Springfield, MO caves. Before distribution could take place the right products had to be purchased and Bernie was considered the best in the business. The entire operation was underground. Sales, communications, support, and the hard part, distribution. His wife Connie inherits lots of money and feels it is really hers. Bernie disappears and Connie calls their best friend from college days, Frank Hawthorn. He was the owner of the Hawthorn Detective Agency and vows to find Bernie.
