Every night, from thirty-one points along Florida’s thousand-mile coastline, fingers of light reach out through the darkness to guide the ships at sea. Kevin McCarthy has written the most complete guide available to Florida’s lighthouses, each entry illustrated with a full-color reproduction of William Trotter’s painting of the structure in its turn-of-the-century prime. Devoting several pages to the story of each of the state’s lights, McCarthy has collected a remarkable variety of lighthouse legend, anecdote, and history.
As usual, great Florida lighthouse book with all of the information and history one needs to know before visiting these maritime monuments. This book uses artistry to portray the lighthouses throughout the book. Through the use of paint, you are given a different look at the lighthouse than the traditional photography many books use nowadays. I found it creative.
