Paris, the early 1980s It is eight o'clock, and the final glimpse of light has just disappeared. The parquetry floorboards are cold, and so is the whisky next to the typewriter. Down sits Vivienne, her hair tied back. Taking a small sip of whisky from the lowball glass, she stares pensively out the window. With every mouthful taken and every key pressed, her reality is challenged. Can writing scaffold the walls that are caving in? Will Ink Suffice intimately follows Vivienne as she navigates her new-found independence after leaving home to pursue her studies at university. However, a string of unfortunate events causes her to spiral, leaving her with nothing, except a question. Will Ink Suffice?
i want to give this 4.5 but it won’t let me :(. an incredible book in an incredible setting. -.5 because vivienne is a bitch sometimes, but that just makes it more realistic
This book is a phenomenal and beautiful piece of art, the author perfectly encapsulates the complexities of relationships and exactly how life can so often disappoint us. The protagonist, Vivienne is written in such a realistic way that you can't help but love her and hate her at the same time. I could not put it down, this book will cause sleep deprivation but it is a price definitely worth paying to finish this amazing book. I have fallen in love with the characters and their actions and subsequent consequences have taught me many invaluable lessons. Thank you to the author for producing such a beautiful novel!!
This book is absolutely magical!! I related to Vivian a lot and I cried so much but it felt like a cathartic cry and journey through the book. Beautiful prose and beautiful poem in the end, Alexander is absolutely talented and I can’t wait to read more from him. He feels like the perfect mix between Sally Rooney and Donna Tartt. This book felt like crying in your mothers arms, in a way deep but cozy. Phenomenal!!!
Loved this book! Vivienne could be quite unlikable at times, but I think that that created more depth to her character. she is quite ambitious, love that for her. Team Thomas personally.
