THE DOCTOR’S CHRISTMAS DILEMMA is the first book I’ve ever read by Danielle Thorne. I loved everything about this beautiful story and I’m sad that it is over. Danielle grabbed my heart from the very first page. She has a way of grabbing her readers and she never lets us go. Ben Cooper has returned home to take care of his father’s medical practice while he recovers from heart surgery.
McKenzie Price was Ben’s best friend when they were growing up. Ben is very smart and took much bullying from the other school kids. But not from McKenzie. She always defended him and stuck by him. That is until they graduated high school and he left without even a goodbye. She always knew he would be pursuing a medical career and would be going to college and medical school, but it was the way he left. He broke her heart and now he is back and she isn’t sure she can trust him once again!
THE DOCTOR’S CHRISTMAS DILEMMA is filled with twists and turns and had me staying up way too late one night to finish! I had to know where Danielle Thorne was taking us and what would happen to McKenzie and Ben. I really loved how the whole community came to Ben’s aid and only wanted him to feel loved and welcomed! The same goes for young daughter, Megan . There is so much heart in Danielle’s writing that I was left with a huge smile on my face and my heart very happy. The very real situations that come up in this book could be taken right out of the newspapers today. I could totally see THE DOCTOR’S CHRISTMAS DILEMMA becoming a television series and I would love to watch it. All of the characters are very interesting and believable, so much so that I felt as if I’ve known them for a long time.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from JustRead Publicity Tours. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I so enjoyed this friends to more story! I thought the tension between Ben and McKenzie was perfect all through the novel. At the beginning of the book, the tension had to do with the way their friendship fell apart. There were hurt feelings and embarrassment for both Ben and McKenzie when they thought about the way things went down in the past. As the book progressed, the tension moved into more of an attraction between the two, however, another layer of tension hovered over them as Ben remained determined that this was only a temporary visit and that he would be leaving for a surgical residency after Christmas.
I really enjoyed seeing the way Ben’s daughter, Megan, was a realistic little girl. Even though Ben had made the effort to do weekly video chats with her, Megan was not emotionally connected to him at the start of the story. It was sweet to see her begin to warm up to having her dad around.
This community was such a fun setting! This is the first book that I have read by this author, but I had no trouble jumping into this story and even got to know some of the characters from earlier books when they made an appearance in this novel. I definitely look forward to reading more of this author’s novels.

Predictably sweet romance and so warm-hearted that it gave me all of the tingles in my toes! Dr.Ben Cooper returns to his small hometown to help out his father, a physician who had heart surgery and who needs Ben’s help running his rural clinic while he recovers. Ben gets reacquainted with Mackenzie Price, his former girlfriend in high school who basically dumped him publicly. Ben left and hasn’t looked back except to visit his daughter who lives with his parents. Now, that part of the book, I found a little unbelievable. He had a wife but she wants nothing to do with the cute little sweetheart, Ben is too busy establishing his career as a big-city doctor, so he drops his darling daughter off with his parents, calling infrequently and visiting less frequently. Thus, Ben is not a hero but starts out as a zero for me. He does redeem himself in the course of the book, but it is an uphill battle since he is presented as rather self-centered and career-minded rather than wanting to actually help others as the doctor he is trained to be. The good news is that he is a dynamic character and he changes, albeit slowly and somewhat reluctantly. I enjoyed getting to know all of the characters in the little town of Kudzu Creek, especially Ms. Olivia, the elderly lady who insists that Ben be her physician regardless of his reluctance. I liked how the characters discovered things about themselves as the story progressed and how they were willing to learn and change. The pace was moderate, a perfect pace for a romance to develop. This is my first book by Danielle Thorne but I will definitely be on the lookout for other books she has written since this one was entertaining and enjoyable. McKenzie “Mac” Price works hard, both at her job and at loving her sister and niece. She didn’t come from a great family situation growing up, and has no desire to treat others the way she was. She’s happy in her little town of Kudzu Creek, working at the diner she hopes to own someday, living her simple life. Ben Cooper’s upbringing couldn’t have been more opposite than McKenzie’s. He had loving parents and his dad is the town doctor. But Ben was considered a nerd then, and was teased mercilessly for it. He vowed to get out of Kudzu Creek and make something of himself…show those bullies just who and what he could become. Mac never teased him, though. They were good friends, the best of friends, and could have been more? But Ben left town just like he said he would. While gone, he had a daughter, one who lives with his folks while he moves up in the medical field. Now he’s back to temporarily take over his dad’s clinic while he retires, and try to build a relationship with the little girl he rarely sees. Is it possible he could reconnect with McKenzie, too? What will happen when Dad is cleared to come back to the clinic and Ben is supposed to head back to the big city? How does the Lord work in the hearts of three hurting people? Find out in The Doctor’s Christmas Dilemma by author Danielle Thorne! Plus it has my favorite…an epilogue! I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.
A heartfelt story of family, faith, and personal growth . . .
Surgeon Ben Cooper has returned to his hometown to fill in for his father at his medical office after his father's heart surgery. His mind is on his own career goals, but he serves his father's patients as best as he can. He faces challenges bonding with the town's residents who are reluctant to work with a physician other than the elder Dr. Cooper.
McKenzie Price, Ben's childhood best friend, is the supervisor, baker, and waitress extraordinaire at the Southern Fried Kudzu diner. It's been a long time since Mac and Ben have seen each other. Some life events have occurred that contributed to barriers being built between these once close friends.
Ben's six-year-old daughter from his first marriage, Megan, is friends with Mac's niece, Bailey, so Ben and Mac are thrown together in various social situations and they slowly become reacquainted. As the story progresses, both of them relax. They discover how much they regret the loss of their close bond when their friendship ended awkwardly many years ago.
Lifetime dreams, faith, readjusting priorities, and forgiveness are just a few of the themes that shine in this sweet story. The book is completely clean in language and content.
I received a copy of this book from the author through Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours. All of my opinions and thoughts shared here are solely my own.
The moment I saw the cover of The Doctor's Christmas Dilemma by Danielle Thorne, I had to read it! I was curious about what his (assumption from the cover) dilemma was. The Doctor's Christmas Dilemma is the first book I have read by Danielle Thorne. McKenzie and Ben were best friends until he told McKenzie his feelings for her, and she didn't reciprocate. Then he left town to pursue his dream of becoming a big-city doctor and not his father's shadow. Now, he is back, filling in for his dad and trying to reconnect with his 6-year-old daughter. I did not like Ben from the beginning. I don't have respect for a father who chooses to be absent from his daughter's life for the past five years and then is only back because his family needs him. It's little wonder that his daughter calls him Ben, and he has no right to be aggravated by it. What did he expect? McKenzie is a giver. She helps her family and friends any time they need it. Her encounters with Ben are awkward as the past continues to hang over them. She has dreams of owning a bookstore but is afraid to take the leap. She decides instead to buy the diner where she works since it is already an established business. The Doctor's Christmas Dilemma is a quick read. McKenzie and Ben both grow a lot through the story. They learn what really matters, and sometimes that looks different from what we expect. The Doctor's Christmas Dilemma is filled with small-town charm, heart-warming moments, and the expected happily ever after. A sweet story to get you in the holiday spirit. Thank you to JustReads Publicity and the author for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Danielle Thorne is a new to me author. The Doctor’s Christmas Dilemma is the standalone third book in her unofficially titled Kudze Creek series. This is a best friends-to-lovers, second-chance romance, where a single dad falls first, taking place in a small town.
Ben Cooper has returned to his hometown of Kudzu Creek, Georgia to fill in for his father who is recovering from a medical emergency. While there, Ben hopes to spend time with and connect with his six-year-old daughter Megan, who his parents are raising while he focuses on his career of being a doctor and ultimately his dream of becoming a surgeon. Once upon a time, McKenzie Price had big dreams. She wanted to be a wife, mother, and her own boss as an owner of a bookstore. Over time, her dreams have changed. She has put the titles of wife and mother into the far recesses of her mind, focusing on being there for her sister and helping to raise her six-year-old niece, Bailey.
McKenzie and Ben knew they would run into each other at some point. They just didn’t expect to have the feelings they thought they buried to resurface. Ben only plans on staying in town until the new year. Then he’s back to Chicago or wherever he’s offered a surgical fellowship. McKenzie refuses to be vulnerable and trust anyone with her heart after her parents abandoned the family. Leaving Kudzu Creek, her home and safe haven isn’t an option, while Ben refuses to stay in a town where he was bullied as a teen and couldn’t wait to leave and prove his own worth. To have the future they want, Ben and McKenzie are going to have to let go of the past and look within themselves.
The Doctor’s Christmas Dilemma was an enjoyable read. Initially, I thought McKenzie had a holier-than-thou attitude towards Ben. But I liked the way she was able to look at things from his viewpoint. Ben was relatable. I loved when he had his moment of self-reflection. Megan added heart to the story that only a little child could. I am disappointed that there wasn’t a Christmas Day scene in the story. Since The Doctor’s Christmas Dilemma seems to be part of an unofficial series, I’m hoping there’s a story coming soon featuring McKenzie’s sister, Jill.

I am feeling the pull to the holiday season early this year and decided to dive into my holiday reads with a sweet Love Inspired romance.
Ben and McKenzie have both lost sight of what matters in their lives. Ben is too focused on his career to be bothered by his young daughter, leaving her with his parents while he pursues his medical aspirations. McKenzie is working the same job in the same small town she’s worked at since high school and has allowed her fear to keep her frozen instead of moving forward. The pair were friends in high school but grew apart when Ben confessed feelings that weren’t reciprocated and then moved away. Now he’s back in town for the holidays and they are again back in one another’s lives.
Their story is sweet but there wasn’t really anything that made this novel special. I was hoping for something more that never came, which made me a little wistful. Ben’s character really rubbed me the wrong way. He comes across as selfish and self-centered and honestly, he never truly redeemed himself to me. I am glad that his eyes were eventually opened, especially when it came to sweet little daughter Megan, but I still found myself struggling to like him. I know that him and McKenzie have a past friendship and, not to be harsh, but I didn’t see much for her to fall in love with. I did, however, see how well McKenzie balanced Ben out, as she is a selfless and giving individual, and she truly one of the characters that redeemed this story for me.
The dance classes brought me right back to my dance classes as a child, making me feel all the nostalgic feels, and I loved that! The recital especially brought back bittersweet memories for me, but it was my favorite part of the entire novel. Ben stepping up and doing what he did solidified his relationship with his daughter, which is what I was rooting for most of all, and to see it come to fruition was wonderful.
Overall, this was a nice, relaxing escape. I would’ve loved to have seen a little something unexpected, even if it was something small. The characters are truly what makes this novel, and I adored the picturesque small-town setting. I absolutely adored Megan and Bailey and the dance aspect brought back fond memories that I had long forgotten about. I just wish there had been a little something more.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
This story is Hallmark-esque in feel. The story has sweet moments but no big surprises in the plot. It just moves along at a steady but somewhat sedate pace. And I think a lot of people will like this story.
Ben & McKenzie have both spent their adult lives trying to compensate for the insecurities from their childhood. But they go about doing that in two very different ways. She bases her life decisions on what is the safe thing to do and he is an overachiever trying to prove his worth to himself and the bullies who made his life miserable. I'm not sure which way is healthier.
I had a hard time liking Ben. McKenzie tells him at one point that he is great dad and I had been thinking what a crappy dad he is. He allows his parents to raise his daughter while he tries to prove himself as a star in his medical field. That is his entire focus in life. In the meantime, he has a little girl to whom he is nothing more than a stranger named Dad that calls her once a month. I recognize that medical school is a tough gig and being a single parent wouldn't necessarily be the best choice for his daughter. She is probably happier with her grandparents than she would have been in day care but one phone call a month? He should have been calling her all the time and visiting as often as he could. So yeah, a once a month dad isn't a great dad to me. I guess I was kind of mad at him for it so I just didn't like him and couldn't figure out how McKenzie could fall in love with him. I will say that he gets things figured out by the end but it sure seems like a long time for him to get there. There are moments during the book where the reader can see his potential to become a great dad even if he isn't there yet.
On the opposite end, McKenzie is spending her life living to help, love and protect her sister and niece. She works hard too but her focus is still her family, compensating for the lack of parental love they had as kids. I related better to her coping methods than I did to his.
I loved the small town setting and some of the characters were really fun.
There are some religious themes in the book but it isn't too in your face. Just trying to figure out what God would want for them kinds of things.
No sex, language or violence *I received a complimentary book from the author and voluntarily chose to review it.
The Doctor’s Christmas Dilemma is a Love Inspired Inspirational Romance by Danielle Thorne. There was a wholesomeness and sweetness to the story, even if communication was almost non-existent between former best friends McKenzie and Ben.
Ben is a doctor and couldn’t escape their small town fast enough, especially after McKenzie stated she had no intention of leaving their town or going with him. Fast forward to the present, and they only have their memories to sustain them. But is that all there is, or could there be more down the road?
The story contains several storylines as we get to know the characters, the businesses, and the makeup of the town. There are a lot of reminiscences, and not all are pleasant. The stories are twined nicely together, and we learn of their pasts as well as hopes for the future, including dreams being fulfilled.
Ben is a single dad, and it was heartwarming watching him and his young daughter get closer since she lives with his parents and doesn’t see him often except through video chats. We learn of family relationships, friends, and activities, as well as some traditions.
As Mac and Ben draw closer, they never seem to be on the same page simultaneously. He tries to support her dreams and remind her of what some of them are, but she just digs in her heels more firmly into the ground of their small town. But is Ben getting through to her without even realizing it?
The human connections throughout the town made the story come alive, and I loved the Christmas setting. There is closure and a happily ever after, especially with the epilogue, but it left me wanting more. The author thanked the readers for returning to the small town of Kudzu Creek, and I look forward to reading more books connected to this small town.
The Doctor’s Christmas Dilemma has a Christmas setting, some adorable kids, animals, and a small town, along with relationship issues and past histories to contend with. It was a quick read that helped to get me in the holiday spirit, with the holidays right around the corner.
I truly enjoy books under the LOVE Inspired brand as they are easy to read and usually a quick read. The Doctor's Christmas Dilemma by Danielle Thorne is the latest book in the LOVE Inspired brand that I have read.
Ben Cooper is a Big-City Doctor who has returned to his small hometown to help run his Father's Clinic. His Dad just had heart surgery and Dr. Ben is back home for the Christmas Season to spend time with his young daughter and work. McKenzie Price is Ben's Childhood Friend, but they had a falling out a few years ago. She enjoys her work at the Local Diner in their small town of Kudzu Creek and wants to stay in her small town. Ben's 6yr old daughter, Megan, is friends with McKenzie's niece, Bailey, so they keep running into each other all over town. The first couple of meetings are a little awkward, but they soon begin to realize that they would like that bond back. Ben's parents have been raising his Daughter while he has been the "Big City Doctor". He is considering staying in his Hometown as his friendship with McKenzie seems to be getting stronger again. Will Ben stay in Kudzu Creek or return to Chicago? Will there be a relationship between Ben and McKenzie?
I was reeled into this storyline from the very beginning. The Small Town Christmas theme is one that I truly enjoy all the time. Ben Cooper at first wasn't a favorite character due to him choosing his career over his daughter. I liked McKenzie Price from the moment she became a part of the storyline. She is hard working woman who also loves her family. Ben did change as I got deeper into the story and I began to respect and love his character. I LOVE who Ben and McKenzie begin to reconcile their friendship and it makes Ben rethink his career in the Big City. The book is one of Second Chances and Faith. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Christian Romance. FANTASTIC BOOK!
The Doctor's Christmas Dilemma is my first book by Danielle Thorne. It definitely won't be my last. Dr Ben Cooper has come home to help his family at Christmas. He is needed to run his dad's clinic while his dad recovers from an illness. Now, he can spend time with his family and his daughter. McKenzie Price broke his heart once, but now she is here to help him reconnect with his little girl. They didn't mean to fall in love, but as you know old sparks start again. Will it be enough to convince Ben that home is where he belongs with his family and a 2nd chance at love or will City life call him back? As I stated before this is my first Danielle Thorne book. It was a sweet heartwarming story that will give you all the feels. And can I say that the cover is so cute! Love Inspired/Love Inspired Suspense has the best covers. I love that it was set in a small town. They are my favorite stories. If you like Christmas stories in small towns where someone has to be make a life changing decision then maybe try this book. It's like a hallmark Christmas movie in book format. It has an epilogue so that of course made me happy. I was given a copy of this book, but all opinions are my very own.
The Doctor’s Christmas by Danielle Thorne is a sweet, heartwarming romance from Love Inspired, and I adored it! It is a second-chance romance filled with wonderfully written characters. It’s a story that reminds us how much our past can influence how we view the world as well as ourselves.
Doctor Ben Cooper has returned to the town where he grew up in order to temporarily fill in for his dad who is recovering from heart surgery. McKenzie Price, the girl who broke his heart, has never left, and surprisingly, she’s still working at the popular diner in town. Since it’s been years since they’ve seen each other or talked, you can imagine their first encounter. All of those past memories come flooding in with Ben remembering rejection and bullying, and McKenzie remembering their close friendship which ended abruptly when she wouldn’t leave with Ben.
I just loved these characters! Thorne brings them to life on the page. You can feel their feelings. Even if you don’t have a background like either Ben or McKenzie, you can sympathize with them. The side characters bring so much to the story too. There are laugh out loud moments thanks to some of them. You’ll be exasperated with others.
Thorne weaves the theme of forgiveness throughout the book, and in the end, we see how healing forgiveness is. Being bitter and unforgiving hurts us more than it hurts the ones we’re holding those feelings towards. Ben and McKenzie’s story is beautiful.
I highly recommend The Doctor’s Christmas Dilemma for its lifelike characters, charming small town feel, sweet romance, and its messages of forgiveness, faith and hope. If you love inspirational, small town romance books, you will love The Doctor’s Christmas Dilemma!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
This story pulled me in, and at times I wanted to shake Dr. Ben, look at what is in front of your eyes!
Ben Cooper grew up a geek, and was teased and ridiculed for it, but he is an over achiever, and he has so many goal with no end in sight!
Life has called him back to the town he said goodbye to a long time ago, of course his parents and four year old daughter live here. His Dad needs him and his skills, and this little town needs him, but he can't wait to leave!
McKenzie Price loved this young man, but as a teen she wasn't ready to leave her small town Georgia. Yet, she sure has a heart for her family, and is there for her niece. She also is there for Ben's daughter!
This story gives a lot, family, jobs, and some sweet romance!
I received this book through Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.
This was a sweet second chance, friends to more romance. I liked seeing the characters grow through out the story and discover what was really important. I liked seeing them discover what their dreams are and then be willing to follow them. I liked seeing them mature from when they were young into the adults that they became. I liked the romance between Ben and Mckenzie. I liked seeing them become friends again and eventually become more. I liked how the town saw what they didn’t want to see and helped to bring them together. I thought this was a sweet, uplifting romance that would be great for anyone needing a little pick me up in their life.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
Author Danielle Thorne writes a heartwarming story of second chances; father to daughter and friend to friend. Both Ben and McKenzie are very single focused. Too single focused? Neither can see options outside of the box they’ve put themselves into.
I really enjoyed these characters, and watching them grow through learning to forgive and let go of the past. Unforgiveness hurts us more than others, as we see in this story. And it affects those around us.
A wonderful Christmas read, The Doctor’s Christmas Dilemma has not only second chances but new chances. It has a wonderful little girl who needs her Daddy. And there are some enjoyable secondary characters, all wrapped up in humor and sighs. I highly recommend it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
A sweet and heartwarming story about second chances. This book is a great Christmas read, but I would read it any time of year too. The message is full of hope and Ben's attempts to connect with his daughter are the sweetest thing. McKenzie doesn't like change and will never leave Kudzu Creek. For a man like Ben who can't stand the idea of stagnating in a small town, their connection seems doomed from the start. I love how they can't seem to stay away from each other. As former best friends, they have a lot of history together and it's hard to let go of feelings that have been building for years. I received a copy of this book from the author through JustRead Publicity tours. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
This is the time of year to enjoy stories like this, with the main characters reconnecting after years spent apart. I thought it was interesting how the author has both characters dealing with their insecurities from high school. Ben has gone on to medical school and sought to show everyone who made his life miserable how wrong they were, while McKenzie seeks the safe road. I appreciated how the forgiveness is a big theme in this story! It was fun to go along with the characters and enjoy them as they reconnected with one another. This is a sweet romance to pick up and enjoy during the holidays! I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.
I really enjoyed this story and the antics of Megan and Bailey. It's amazing how much sweetness children add to a storyline. I was also invested in this story and was hoping Ben and McKenzie would realize what really mattered in life.
I was given an advance copy of this book by the author. My review was voluntary, and my opinions were my own. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy Christian romance, and I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
I absolutely love this Christmas story. Ben Cooper moved to Chicago to become a doctor. He returns to his home town for Christmas, to see his family. He reunites with his past love, McKenzie Price. This is a sweet, heartwarming story of hope, forgiveness, love, faith, and second chances. I love stories set in small towns because people help one another. I definitely recommend The Doctors Christmas Dilemma. I was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
A really sweet story of two friends going their separate ways after high school. Ben Cooper’s dream to follow in his dad’s footsteps to become a doctor and McKenzie Price’s love for her home town to never leave. After a failed marriage and a young daughter, Ben returns to his home town to temporarily run his dad’s clinic while his dad recovers from an illness. When he sees McKenzie his feelings are even stronger. When McKenzie realizes her feelings for Ben will it be too late?
I really enjoyed this book. Ben comes home to help out his father’s clinic. He reconnects with McKenzie, his former girlfriend. Also he gets to know his daughter who has been staying with his parents. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters in the book.
I brought this book from Harlequin reader service. This book review is my own opinion.
This story was so capativing.... It was beautifully written with lots of love, compassionate, and overflowing genuine community support! I thought the author creativity was quite intriguing and radiant.
I love both Ben and Mackenzie dedication to help everyone in their community, unconditionally. I highly recommend this book
It was such fun to read another story set at Kudzu Creek with a cast of great characters. The story line moves along and the author does a good job telling the story. The romance is great and so are the few surprises thrown into the story really making it a fun read.
A good read. The characters naturally grew for the most part. There were definitely moments where I grew frustrated with their stubbornness. (Side note: this book needed another run through an editor. There were numerous typos and missing words.)
This is a lovely small town love story with lots of heart. I appreciate that Ben is not perfect. He has flaws. He’s human and I found that refreshing. McKenzie is a strong heroine. She is relatable. The little girls are great side characters along with the rest of the town. I recommend this to Love Inspired fans and readers of light inspirational novels!
Sweet story.. I was frustrated with Ben and how he let his past hurts and his set-in-concrete plans kept him from considering God's plan for his life. And my heart hurt for Megan and McKenzie. Thankful for a HEA!
A very nice story, but poorly written (or at least poorly printed). The many run-together words, printing errors, and sentences with missing words made the story somewhat distracting to read.
