★★✩✩✩ - I enjoyed something about this book, but I likely had more than one major issue with it.
This book had everything I would normally really enjoy and I picked it up just for a short fun read but ended up dnf-ing at 35%. It was honestly just really poorly written and plotted in a strange way. Lots of misused and reused words, suddenly the MC knows people's names when they've never been mentioned, it was all just a little off. Also things happen way too fast in general and yet at the same time none of it is actually very interesting. Oh well! On to the next.
For me this was something to listen to on the background. It was a maybe 2.75 book. Entertaining but not well written. I have never read a straight romantasy book before nor a one like this (dragon-man) so it was a bit different for usual. I listened to the audio so I can't say anything about the physical or ebook but it was alright. There were parts where it was clear that something was deleted from the point and things didn't make since because of that. There we also times when one of the characters knew something they should not have. I would say go ahead with reading if you want something entertaining and don't mind some plot holes. There also was not much worldbuilding but it's a romantacy so I was not expecting there to be much anyways. There were funny moments and I did not hate the FMC nor the MMC. The FMC was kinda funny and might have been my favorite after the fireball. She was not a complete idiot and was actually able to think. Though her feelings were not really discussed in any point. She was a bit blank but at least had some flavour. Clearly the author had watches Howl's moving castle as there was a flying fire ball that followed them and was sassy and funny. I did actually like that part. The plot was a bit weak but it was enough to make sense and keep me entertained. The ending was a bit rushed though. I would have liked to see more at the end on how what they did affected the world around them and the relationships of the MMC with the people in his world as it was made clear that he cared about them. I appreciated that there were not a million spicy parts in this and they actually did something other then f***.
I absolutely love this book I'm a huge fan of Mac Flynn and have been from the get go. This is such a wonderful story with strange creatures, a witches curse, a kidnapping and a little ball of light named Niks. Niks' humor really added to the story. I fell in love with Lord Edmond. He had such a kind and caring heart. Emma was so strong. To go through what she did. Being kidnapped from her world and tossed into one completely different. She handled it better than expected. But she also had a kindness that was really special about her. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone. So I'll just say, "Read this or you'll truly miss out on a terrific reading experience. This is so damn good.
An interesting story concept which could have done with some sound editing. A few mistakes are forgiveable, but actually breaking your own world rules, amateurish. A good editor would have found these. Reads like a young adults book. Storyline was good, if you overlooked the plot holes. 3 stars for editing / breaking own world building laws, 4 stars for story idea and character building. 3.5 stars overall.
The middle of the storie was really drawn out. There were definitely parts that could have been culled. Even then, it's still a rather short book. I lost interest and stopped reading for a little while but eventually picked it back up and finished it.
Very much enjoyed the action and adventure of the story with the different creatures out of the norm, the humour was spot on from little Niks who was my favourite character.
I liked it, though in the end the curse was lifted as if it was nothing, and it kinda felt anticlimactic. The next book still follows Edmond and Emma, but with a different dragon lord who is cursed and they're gonna help him, I guess, but I don't know how, and I really don't want to find out.
it was short and sweet. paprika on the spice level with just 2 scenes of bed sheet romping.
edit** i’m changing my review. i’m back and i’m mad as hell. why was 80% of the book spent on a despicable me minion flavored wisp, a goddamn leprechaun, and a bird boy?????
It was ok. It kept me engaged enough to finish it. It also ended setting up the next book but wasn't a cliffhanger which is nice. That's really all I have to say about it.
She was reluctantly going on a night out with a friend when some very strange men hit on them. She was kidnapped by them and that’s where our story begins.
