Bestselling authors Candace Ayers and Kym Dillon bring you SHORT "lunchtime quickie" reads—condensed romances intended to be read in under 2 hours!
Paranormal passion only a shifter can deliver. Let the games begin!
My fated mate is one fiery, feisty human. Marla bares her small, blunt teeth and tries to scratch me with her tiny "claws" every time I get close. But I can tell she secretly digs the whole possessive wolf vibe I have going on. I'll just flex my muscles and show her what an attentive and loyal mate I'll be in the bedroom. Okay, I admit, winning over this sassy city girl might take some effort. And possibly some rope to tie her to my bed. But I love the thrill of the chase. My mate won't know what bit her once her big bad wolf gets through taming her.
** This is a SHORT, feel-good, instalove-inspired, fated mates wolf shifter romance. **
This is a spin-off of the Brides for Bears series. This book is a standalone, but many of the characters were introduced in the previous series.
Asa kidnaps Marla from the bear territory as she is his mate. It's funny as he ties her up to keep her from leaving. Marla is a spunky woman with a sailor mouth when she taken. She is determined to get a story to prove her moms sanity.
But that's not really necessary when Marla finds out who she really is. It's a small world after all.
Marla Davis has signed up for a mail-order bride for shifter bears, a program to bring back their declining numbers and lack of females. She is driven to prove that these shifters exist and her editor has allowed her to work on the story, but he wants it completed soon. Her mother has been in a long-term psychiatric hospital for 20 years when no one believed her “story”. So Marla will reveal the truth when her story runs and get her mom released.
Wolf shifter Asa had caught the scent of his fated mate in the bear shifter territory. He shouldn’t be on their land, but the female is his and he can’t stay away. Tonight something fancy is going on, everyone dressed up for some big party. But Silas Orso, the bear clan Alpha, steps onto the porch with a human and scents Asa. He shifts and attacks. Instead of running, Asa shifts and engages in the fight to show his determination. Then he returns to his pack.
Marla is now hiding behind a tree, waiting to video one of these guys shifting. Then she can return home, write her story, and free her mother. She follows him into the woods as he prepares to shift and she starts recording. Suddenly strong arms grab her, cover her mouth, and when the other bear leaves, the guy throws her over his shoulder. Her mate has just kidnapped her! He chuckled as she tried to bite him and scratch him, so she gave up… probably because he pretended to almost drop her each time.
Waking up tied in his bed with him sleeping beside her, Marla is furious. She kicks his side and yells at him. He remains calm, enjoying her feisty attempts to get at him. He chats with her like this is a perfectly normal day, laughing as she gets angrier with him. And he really does enjoy her spirited snarls and threats. Life definitely won’t be dull with this mate. But will his own pack let him keep her, especially because of the trouble it will cause with the bears? Will his mate try to escape, although he has all the skills to track her if she does? Or will this one end up with an eventual HEA?
Wolf's Captive is book 1 in Candace Ayers and Kym Dillon's latest series, Brides for Beasts: Wolves, spin off from the series Brides for Beasts: Bears. The background is that the bear shifters of Mystic Hollow are the guinea pigs of recruiting human women to attend singles events to help the shifters - who have a lack of women in the community - find their mates.
There was some groundwork for this book in the last Brides for Beasts: Bears book, but this is easily read as a standalone. All we got was a hint of someone watching the bears from the woods and a single lady who wasn't exactly as she appeared.
Despite starting off with a messy abduction, I really enjoyed human (and journalist out to out the shifters), Marla, and head strong wolf shifter, Asa. Marla has a good reason why she wants to out shifter's existence, but things change as she gets to know Asa. Asa is doing the best he can, but taking Marla meant that he has made trouble with his alpha and caused some issues with the bears.
I found the twist at the end really charming when Marla's past and future are reconciled. It was a rocky start but things are looking up for Marla and her mother.

Mine! - That singular word was Asa's thought when he scented his mate in the nearby bear haven. As a wolf, he could have started a war skulking around those parts. So what. All that mattered is that he got Marla back to his den. She is his mate and he will have her.
Undercover to prove her mom is not clinically insane, she is ticked that some big galoot tossed her over his shoulder and ran off into the ether with her. Especially when she finally had the evidence she needed!
A very rocky start to their relationship, until she experiences the joy of his care, the warmth of his people and a feeling of home. When the Shifter Council decrees that Asa must return Marla to the bears, he faces a pivotal moment - go rogue with his reluctant mate or breed with another in a soulless pairing.
This is a fun novella, with a kidnapping, light spanking, some steam, and a surprise ending that will rock Marla's world even more than discovering her heritage. I listened to the story. AI narration was okay.
Marla has managed to enter a very private community so she can expose shifters and prove her mother isn't mentally ill. She has the proof when she is snatched by a very attractive male who takes her to his home. Asa knew her scent before he saw her and knows this fiesty woman is his mate. She may claw, kick and bite but he loves that she is sassy and strong... These small teases won't stop him from claiming her.
This was an easy to read story that while short made up for it's length with fire, tenderness, acceptance and a happily ever after. Our main female soon changes her mind about her mission and I loved that this book has that honest sweetness that you want from a romance. I adored the gentle shift in feelings, emotions and opinions that made me fall in love with these characters myself.

3.25 stars. Marla, the female human journalist lead, is attempting to prove shifters are real since her mother is institutionalised for insisting it is so. She’s undercover as a potential partner for “beasts”.
Asa, the male wolf shifter lead, is shocked to find his mate among the human female partner candidates for the bear shifters. He quickly abducts her.
Initially furious, Marla is shocked to find herself attracted to Asa. Then she finds her perspective on exposing shifters changing…
This short story is dual POV, and a fun, over the top, romp. I was amused by Asa’s instant and extreme reaction. I found Marla’s conversion and willingness to simply walk away from her job and previous concerns totally unrealistic. This story is a fun piece of escapist reading.

Early into this short story I was disappointed. Spoiler Alert - After the abduction Marla was bound in unreasonable position overnight. Not sure Marla even cared about being bound for hours in an uncomfortable position. After that scene the progression of story was just unacceptable and surely not in the manner a man would treat someone he adored on sight. I've enjoyed both authors in the past but maybe it's time for me to unfollow both authors solely because I am not a fan of any type of torture. In all fairness I will give them one more chance to determine if these authors are gradually moving to the bondage genre.
As always I commend authors on sharing their creative ability and talent but bondage is not of interest for me. Also thanks to Kindle Unlimited for unlimited reading at a monthly rate.
Marla signs up for Brides For Bears. She is going to get video of a shifter changing so she can get her mother out of the psychiatric hospital she has been in for 20 years. Once there, she is taken by Asa who calls her his mate, but he is a wolf shifter and that could cause trouble. The secrets and twists in this story are awesome. So many unexpected situations and events, which change with the color of her eyes. Good thing her phone did not connect when she tried to send a video. Someone just found home.

"My cabin's been a lone wolf dwelling for as long as I can remember."
Asa doesn't mean to do something impulsive that's going to change everything for both himself and Marla, but sometimes your instincts are too powerful to ignore.
This is a spin-off from the Brides for Beasts Bears series, and wraps up the loose thread that was Marla's kidnapping even as it introduces a new community full of characters in search of their own happily ever after.
I really enjoyed how this wove in threads of trust, impulsiveness, trusting our instincts, accepting others/outsiders, and the strength of family and community.
He knew what he wanted and he knew it would go against the pack but when he found her, he took her and made her his!
Marla was there to do a job and when Asa captured her, she decided to go along with it and then escape but sometimes fate has a way of changing a person. She couldn’t resist him, she was as mad for him as he was for her.
A fast emotional, steamy read with lots of good feel moments with some surprises along the way leading to a wonderful HEA!.

Asa is near the bear territory when his wolf sense his mate, she is a human. He is determined to make her his. When the opportunity arises, he grabs Marla and makes off with her to his house.
Marla was there to do a story, her big break. She sees a wolf and bear fighting, not long after, this hot guy throws her over his shoulder and abducts her. Her ties her to their bed in their house, saying she is his mate.
This is a steamy read, this wolf gets more than he bargained for with the feisty Marla.

This was such a great story. Short but so good that you didn't want to put the book down. Maria knew that the minute she saw Asa he was her mate. He kidnaps her before she marries someone else. Asa loves the chase and while his mate was biting and scratching him he was taking her home to tame her and claim her. Asa loves her feistiness and her spirit but will she eventually accept him as her mate and will the pack accept her? This was such a fun story and I enjoyed their journey to their HEA.

A quick, shifter romance read. This is the first book in this series Brides for Beasts. This story is about Marla a human who is trying to write a story about shifters. Wolf's Captive (Brides for Beasts: Wolves Book 1 )
The love story of Marla and Asa. Marla is a reporter who want to tell the story of the shifters. She is kidnapped before she can sent the picture of a bear shifter. Asa see Marla and believe she is his mate. He kidnap her and now the Council want him to return her to the bears. Will he? Great story.
I didn't really like Marla she was annoying. I know she was trying to save her mum but I don't like she sent the video.
Asa was ok but he bit her without talking about it first like the bears did. Maybe it was a wolf thing and I like he was willing to leave his camp to be with her.
I didn't like the way the council guy talked about women and called it breeders for beasts. Breeders sounds gross
This is the first book in a spin off series and I loved how OTT Asa was and how feisty Marla was. There was fun ridiculousness to this story and lots of emotions as these two work from kidnapped to HEA ;D Entertaining and fast paced, this was a fun read.
A fiery, passionate and entertaining story. Asa and Marla embark on a fast paced journey filled with lust, sass, truths and of course romance. I loved everything about this book. Cannot wait to see what comes next.
This was a great start to a new series by this dynamic duo. The characters were endearing while the story line was engaging and kept me reading in one sitting. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Having failed to hook up with a bear shifter, Marla gets video and as she prepared to send it to her editor, she is kidnapped by Asa. Surprise, he announced that they are mates.
It’s a fun short story. I would have loved it to have been longer. Just about the time you are truly figuring out each character and really enjoy this story it’s over. It’s is a good book that leads you into the series. Enjoy
Asa, wolf shifter and Marla who we met with the bear brides. After all the trouble she caused, I don't think anyone really missed her. A lot come out now that A saw has found is fated mate!
This author has the amazing ability to pull you into the story and keep you there until it's finished!! It doesn't matter which series of hers that you're reading, it happens every time! Now on to the next in this series. 😁
Easy listen, unlike the others wasn't a rom-com just the rom. Grey MC with girl who wants to expose the shifter community to media scrutiny. Turns out she was also a wolf shifter just like her dad. This series has AI generated VO. 🌶/5

I was completely entertained from start to finish. This is a great read if you want to wind down after a hard day or you just want to lose yourself into fated mates and wolves. Love this whole series. Same review for all the books in this series.
