Winning Mr. Wrong

Rate this book
A reality television dating show was never part of my post-college plan. Nearly broke, unemployed, recently dumped me let my best friend Haley decide it should be. We all have rough patches, right? When nothing sounds better than snuggling on the couch in your favorite sweats, inhaling chocolate? Well, I've signed up for the glamorous version. Designer dresses. Poolside lounge chair. Open bar. Unfortunately, my free vacation takes a turn from mildly humiliating to full-on mortification when the identity of the man I'm meant to woo is revealed. What are the chances he's the quarterback I accidentally insulted on national television six months ago? Turns out they're pretty good. Famous athletes receive plenty of press coverage. Odds he remembers my constructive criticism? Thanks to a one-way plane ticket and a thirty-page contract I probably should have read before signing, I'm forced to follow through. To embark on a journey around the world with a man who hates me and the twenty-four other women he's "dating" that will be forever enshrined on film for millions to watch weekly. All to win Mr. Wrong .

What a fun and entertaining read!!!

I have read quite a few romance novels based on reality TV shows in the past and this trope has always been an entertaining one. And I must say I really enjoyed Winning Mr. Wrong.

The beginning was a bit slow for me, which means it took me a little to get into the book, but as soon as the show started I was invested in both MC's and their journey to HEA.

Can't say that the book wasn't predictable but I really enjoyed how the author brought them together, especially after that viral video clip of Embry's.

So, if you are looking for a fun and quick read you know what to do. :D

I see the pattern in this author’s books. They may be sometimes slightly over the top, but I still tend to enjoy them.

MFCs are opinionated, selfish, and the guys need to work a lot to get them (which may be a bit negative), but I still prefer to have it this way if it means that the heroines are written as strong and independent.

3.5⭐️An enjoyable and easy read that follows Embry after her best friend secretly nominates her to be on a reality dating show and her journey through the filming process as she gets to know the bachelor himself, Ryan. While this isn’t a standout book that will stick with me, the audio made for such an easy listen, and I am always a fan of this trope despite never watching reality TV.

What to expect:
-Reality TV dating show
-Celebrity romance
-Football player hero
-Opposites attract
-Slow burn feel
-Low steam

This romance book was interesting to read! To be honest I am not a fan of reality tv shows like "Love Island" and I do not watch them. And I won't watch them in the future either.

The intent behind the story was good, because we get to see how a reality show works.

Embey was really down to earth heroine and Ryan was basically just like her. I did had fun with reading abouth them both. But still at one point they were both pretty stubborn and I do admitt that I got irritated about it.

There is something that I noticed through the book. Something that made and impression. I wished that both main characters had more communication between them. I had the feeling that they need to speak more about them and their relationship. This is the one that I couldn't feel through the book - communication.

Except that, I had fun reading the book and I liked it 🙂.

This was fun and quick read.. I can see Bachelors watchers will enjoy this one even more.. I think the author gave us an interesting and realistic behind the scenes book.

It is the past month I have become quite a fan of C.W. Farnsworth... It's definitely an author I am adding to my contemporary favorites..

What a FUN read!

I admit I have never been a fan of those dating reality shows, but when it is actually made into books I loved it. The 'behind the cameras' kind of story is entertaining for me and we got a bit of enemies-to-lovers trope. Both MCs are interesting enough for me to got me hooked on this one.
Some predictable storyline is not a problem for me honestly, no over the top drama like when you usually find in a storyline like this, but the conflicts between the MCs before they finally together was kind of dumb for me. In a good way I guess. Because overall for me, this is an enjoyable read.

The start was great! A rom-com with a unique setting on a reality show (mix of Paradise Hotel and Farmer wants a wife), MCs enemies, heroine feisty, and very likeable Hero.

Unfortunately after 20% it went downwards... The story got a little boring, but I was glad the other contestants in the show were mostly sweet girls. Yeah, won't lie - the tongue kissing other girls bugged me a lot, but I guess it couldn't go without it. These reality shows tends to get much spicier than just the kisses.

Potential SPOILERS below:

The ending was a total shit show to be honest, and it crushed all my hopes for a decent well... everything.
Firstly, I didn't like the sex scene -she practically begged for it, which I can't stand.
Secondly, these two stopped communicating completely, so when she rejected his proposal on air and just ran, instead of maybe talking to him off-cameras, I was like:

but ok, I still got it - there needs to be the big drama, right??

The ball was on her side of the court, and I expected her to go to him and apologize. There was some pitiful attempt from her to call the studio, where she got rejected. Why?? You have his address and you have his parents address, or if it's too intruding what about going and asking in his team? Anyway, she did barely nothing and the week after (on air) blew it again!! Is it so hard to say: "Hey, stop the cameras, we need to talk" especially after the guy tells you he had been able to imagined future with you snce the beginning of the show?

Eventually, after pages and pages of dumb self-monologue, going on a dates to spite the other one (bugged me like hell!), after crazy amount of luck and a push from her BFF (hate that too 😾), they told each other they were in love!

Sorry for the detailed description, but I just couldn't put my head around the fact that someone goes from a pretty likeable character into a total dumbass, and that counts for both - the FMC and MMC. Unfortunately, the way they kept missing the main point and OP drama was not even funny for me.

I love a good reality dating show romance, throw in a pro Football player lead and some opposites attract romance and I was sold. Fun and a bit steamy, this was pure entertainment and I happily chose to read it rather than watch the Superbowl this year :) Recommended to fans of books like One to watch by Kate Stayman-London or If the shoe fits by Julie Murphy.

2 stars 🌟 as much as i love c.w this was not very good 😭 i was intrigued by the dating show aspect of this but throughout the book, the dating show makes zero sense and all the time jumps had me really confused 😵‍💫 they were going to italy, london, germany (what dating show goes around the world??) and there was no explanation or structure to how the show is supposed to play out 🤕

ryanembry had cute banter in the beginning but everything was too jumbled and rushed for me to go along with the fact that they apparently were falling for each other ?? don’t even get me started on the miscommunication which took 2 MONTHS to resolve…..this was honestly a mess and the only reason i made it through was because the writing wasn’t awful 😪

The set up of this book is very fun and cute.
I don’t regularly watch reality TV shows, but I understand enough that I had no problem following the in’s and outs, the behind the scenes and the premise of the story.
Embry is down on her luck and her best friend secretly nominates her to go on a “Bachelor/Island“ type dating show.

Embry is hesitant, but gives in for a nice vacation and a mental reset basically.
John is the starting quarterback for the Chicago NFL’s team(Embry’s hometown) He’s the bachelor on the show, he’s also conflicted about being on the show. There’s pressure to do it for his career.

Funny thing, Embry got a little drunk and angry and went viral online for insulting John’s playing and made some personal insults while she was at a football game.
Oh, and her Dad is a huge fun… awkward for everyone!
Cue the animosity, the banter and fireworks!
I love enemies to lovers! I love the push and pull, tension and quips.
The characters are both really likable, nice and smart.
I will say I didn’t feel like their conversations and interactions went really deep.
However, I did feel like I understood the characters and I liked the banter and the chemistry between them.
I liked that they have some interesting and pretty random things in common.
Plus the competitive/hate vibes are fiery and hot!
I really enjoyed the pace, the writing style, the characters both primary and secondary.
The story was immensely enjoyable and entertaining.
It’s not too serious or heavy with enough substance to please me.
It’s pretty slow burn, the chemistry is immediately obvious to everyone except the main characters. Denial is strong with these two.
I really enjoyed and loved this story. It was so fun and the romance was worth the slow build up.

This was a nice book. Though I guess the whole dating show thing is not really my favourite trope. So I knew this definitely wasn't going to be a favourite even before I began reading. That being said, it was still good and I did still enjoy it for the most part.

I'm a HUGE fan of romance novels with The Bachelor as a trope (is it a trope? I'm calling it a trope), so when I saw this one floating all over Bookstagram and that it was available on Kindle Unlimited, I knew I had to give it a try!

Embry has recently lost her job and her boyfriend, so when her friend reveals she secretly nominated her for a Bachelor-esque dating show, Embry actually agrees. But when she gets to set, she discovers that the suitor is none other than the same professional football player, Ryan, she insulted on camera a few months early in a viral clip. While Embry and Ryan don't have great history, the producers force Ryan to keep her around for views, and you know what they say... forced proximity makes the heart grow fonder...

This book is fun and frothy light reading, perfect for those looking for a quality read from their KU subscription. It doesn't rise to the level of something especially fresh or emotional to me, but it was immensely enjoyable and easily readable, and sometimes that's all I want. A feel-good romance! And this was certainly that. I think the book could have been longer (and I never say that) and gone into a little bit more detail with the production elements. For example, at one point production mentions wanting to paint Embry as the villain and then it's never mentioned again. How was Embry portrayed on the show? What was the public's reaction to her? We never get some of those pieces that would have really added color to the novel.

Also, the cover makes no sense. Why are there two women on the cover of a M/F romance? It looks like it's advertising a F/F romance or a women's fiction story about friendship--neither of which this is.

4 stars - 8/10

4.5 Stars for Winning Mr. Wrong
This is the first hook I have read by C.W. Farnsworth but it certainly won’t be the last because Winning Mr. Wrong was a well written, entertaining read with characters you could easily relate with. The blurb intrigued me but Ryan and Emory’s story captivated and entertained me.
Embry finds herself on a Caribbean Island after her best friend signs her up for a reality dating show, the idea of finding true love in front of the world is not how she sees herself finding the man of her dreams but a free holiday will work but when she realises the bachelor is no other than Ryan Hasting’s a sportsman she trashed on national TV, fun and love is the last thing on her mind…..
Ryan is only on the show because his agent convinces him it would be a good way to spend the off season and the last person he expects to see is Embry. What follows is plenty of witty banter and plenty of laugh out loud moments as they both agree they are definitely not looking for love with each other or are they……
I laughed, I giggled and I was left with a smile on my face so what more can you ask for in a great read. Can’t wait to read more from this very talented author and if you are looking for an entertaining read look no further than Winning Mr, Wrong,

3 stars, because I actually finished it and didn’t give up halfway. Minus the one spicy scene, this is a very YA book. As someone who got married less than 6 months after I met my husband (and we were long distance for half of that), I understand a situation where you get married quickly. What I can’t understand is how Embry could be a likable character. She is rude and immature throughout the entire book. The guy needs to run, not walk away from her. The book also did not do a good enough job developing the characters, in my opinion. It was too quick of a read that you didn’t really get to know either one.

Embry, having been fired from her job and then dumped by her boyfriend, was not having the best of days. Along comes Haley, her bestie who has signed Embry up for a reality dating show. Well a free vacation and a chance to get her life back on track can't be all bad or could it?
Ryan Hastings is a Quarterback for the Chicago Grizzlies professional football team. After their season ends his agent talks him into being the bachelor on a reality show, not really happy about it but he agrees to it.
After Embry gets checked into her room for the show she finds out who the bachelor is. The same guy who she trashed on national tv after a game, Ryan Hastings. This should be fun, not!
The banner between the two is hilarious and they both agree they're not there to find love.

I really enjoyed this book.

CW Farnsworth you have done it again!

Another great romance novel filled with angst, banter and a little bit of steam.

I loved the setting for this book, on the set of a show very much like The Bachelor but when the Bachelor is the same man that you insulted on national TV, we get a Playful enemies to lovers story.

Farnsworth never fails to write strong fiesty female MC's and layered dreamy male MC's.

There is so much to love about this book and a prime example of why I love this author!

After losing both her job and her boyfriend in the same day, Embry Willis is ready to curl up on her couch and wallow in her misery. Her best friend Haley thinks she needs to move on instead, so she secretly nominates her to compete on a reality TV dating show. They're both surprised when Embry's application is selected. With nothing to lose besides what little is left of her pride, Embry decides to go on the show, figuring that if nothing else, she can use the time by the pool to figure out her next career move. Everything changes when she arrives on the tropical island where the show is being filmed and learns that the bachelor is none other than Ryan Hastings, quarterback for the Chicago Grizzlies and the player she accidentally insulted in a video clip that went viral several months earlier. Ryan's agent convinced him to do the show in order to spice up his "golden boy" reputation, which he needs if he wants more sponsorships and a big contract extension. Unfortunately for Embry, Ryan recognizes her from the video and decides to make her time on the show as awkward and uncomfortable as possible. The more time he spends with her, however, the more he realizes that she's the one woman on the show with whom he could actually see a future.

I don't watch reality TV but I do love football and sports romances, so I've really been looking forward to reading this story. It was totally worth the wait! I enjoyed it so much that I read more than half of it in a single sitting (and I would have kept going if I hadn't been so tired I could barely keep my eyes open). Even when they were supposed to be enemies, Ryan and Embry were super cute together, and their playful banter and obvious chemistry kept me glued to my Kindle. I couldn't wait for them to finally act on the slowly simmering feelings between them.

I highly recommend "Winning Mr. Wrong" for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. It was the first book I've read by this author but certainly won't be the last.

When Mr. Wrong is Actually Just Right

Winning Mr. Wrong was a winner of a read for so many reasons. Embry’s down but never quite out spirit. Ryan’s pro football player hotness. Their enemies to slow-burn relationship that was heartfelt with just the right angsty touch. But most impressively, C.W. Farnsworth convinced ME that I could maybe enjoy reality TV. Don’t get me wrong, I always somehow know what’s up with those Kardashians but The Bachelor and its million re-iterations is way beyond me.

I love Charlotte’s writing, if anyone was going to get me into a book about a dating reality show it would be her.

This one turned out to be an engaging and emotional read about two people who immersed themselves into a world they had no intention of authentically living in. They each had their own valid reasons for why they were there. But once they actually interacted, all their circumstances and reasons started crumbling bit by bit to be replaced with a sweet yet very hesitant chemistry.

It was really fun to get lost in the reality TV world as the story focused on valuable interactions, setting up great scenes full of feels and didn’t get caught up in all the cattiness that must happen on these shows. Ryan and Embry had to work hard to separate reality from the reality TV and once they did, it was such a relief! If I were watching them on TV I’d be on the edge of my seat, hoping and wishing these two make it to the end. Forget about tuning into The Bachelor and cozy up with Winning Mr. Wrong today!

Winning Mr Wrong is CW Farnsworth’s 8th book, and dare I say…. the best one she’s written 🤩

I feel so lucky to have discovered Charlotte’s books this year through bookstagram and getting to watch her writing develop and transform with each release. I read four of her releases this year and each book I picked up ended up being better than the previous.

Winning Mr Wrong is one of the most unique books I’ve ever read! The setting is a Bachelor-esque tv show where instead of roses, the girls get plane tickets! They travel the world dating and falling in love with the same man, hoping to be the sole girl to win his heart and his proposal. Embry Willis was signed up for the show by her best friend, and what do you know… the male love interest on the show is none other than Ryan Hastings! Ryan is the quarterback for the Chicago Grizzlies and he and Embry go way back – not in a good way, either. When they finally meet face to face, the very last thing they expect to do is get engaged to each other!

The hate-to-love trope in Winning Mr Wrong is incredible! CW made Ryan and Embry’s hatred for each other seem so realistic and not over dramatic. She made the characters feel so personal and like I told her while reading, I would love to be best friend’s with Embry. She’s so real! And Ryan, sweet Ryan. Just a big soft teddy bear at heart. He could ask me to jump off a cliff for him and I would ask him how high. I loved this book SO MUCH and can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store for CW Farnsworth.

thank you to Grey’s Promotions for an ARC of Winning Me Wrong in exchange for an honest review!

I discovered C.W. Farnsworth with one of the first books that I read this year, and now I'm nearing the end of the year with another great romance written by her. With every one of her books, I declare that this may be my new favorite, but really...THIS ONE may be my new favorite.

I wasn't too sure going into this story. I'm not a huge fan of the "reality shows" that focus on finding true love, and so I'm not typically a fan of books with that theme. This one was a pleasant surprise though.

Embry is down on her luck after losing her job and saying good-bye to her latest boyfriend, so her friend Haley applies for her to join the cast of a reality dating show. When Embry is accepted to the show, Haley convinces her that it will be a nice paid vacation and nothing more. Too bad that Embry was drunk and agreed to the offer, because once she's on the island, she realizes that the man that she is supposed to woo is the same famous athlete that she insulted on national television. And too bad that he remembers her.

This book had some pretty funny moments with these two. I loved the insults thrown between Embry and Ryan, and their chemistry was undeniable. As Ryan's love interests were dwindled down as the weeks went by, I kept rooting for Embry to make it to the end of the show, but I can honestly say that (for the most part) I was kept guessing right up until that moment. And I wasn't prepared for what came next!

Winning Mr. Wrong is a fun, original and entertaining romance that made me smile, laugh, and bite a few nails. There was just that touch of angst to add a bit of drama, and I kept finding myself checking the percentage on my Kindle, because I was totally worried that we may not make it to a HEA.

This author continues to win my heart with every single one of her stories, and this one was no exception. Again, this may be my new favorite...until I read her next one.

English is not my native language, but I feel like I have to at least try to write my opinion. So here it goes...
By now, I have read 4 books from this author. I didn't pay attention to the publication date, but two of them, including this book, are missing tiny details that are crucial to understanding the context.
My recommendation for the author is to find more beta readers, because the ideas are great and also the writing. Sometimes when the authors know it all, he can miss that the reader doesn't.

Read as an audiobook. Not my usual genre, but I was on a long drive and needed something distracting and interesting without too much thought power required to enjoy it. This book was perfect! I really enjoyed it!! Fun and silly without taking itself seriously. Amusing banter and character development that went the expected way but without being obviously boring. I personally also enjoyed the romance without smut. Definitely a fun light fluffy candy floss treat of a read :)

Funny and sweet

This girl is her own worst enemy!

Jobless Embry finds herself participating on a reality television dating show thanks to her best friend’s good intentions, which wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if not for the fact that Chicago’s darling, football 🏈 star Ryan, is the bachelor and she publicly slammed him for his lacklustre plays and overactive bedroom- awkward!

This is a fun read 😊

I absolutely love Charlottes work but this one just wasn’t for me. It was entertaining enough but I couldn’t get emotionally attached to the characters.

As always it was well written and I did like the reality tv show plot line

I just wish there was more characters, more insight and input from the other girls on the show, more attention to those details might of made things more interesting

I absolutely love CW Farnsworth books and when I had the chance to read an ARC of her newest one Winning Mr Wrong I could not get to it fast enough! I just love her writing style and her characters and they way she brings them to life so they stick with you. This book was everything…I adore Ryan and Embry! We had an enemies to lovers thing happening full of really great character banter. I love a first person dual POV book and reading both main characters perspectives for this story was really fun.

Embry is going through a little rough patch in her life having lost her job and her best friend nominates her for a Bachelor type reality show. Ryan Hastings is an NFL player looking to add a little edge to his reputation and turns out to be The Bachelor. The unfortunate part? Embry had a little video of her insulting Ryan go viral and let’s just say, he remembers. Let me just say there is nothing Mr Wrong about Ryan and Embry had quite a time figuring that out.

Overall this book was really good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was witty banter between characters, fun side characters (can we discuss a Haley/Nick book???), sweet romance and a little spice. And….a little cameo from another of her books (love that)! I definitely recommend reading this and if you haven’t read any of CW’s other books add them to you TBR ASAP! Thank you Grey’s Promotions for the opportunity to read and review this book!
