4-Star Review: What Do We Know About the Nazca Lines? by Ben Hubbard

What Do We Know About the Nazca Lines? by Ben Hubbard offers an engaging and informative look into one of history’s most fascinating mysteries. The book explores the ancient geoglyphs carved into the Peruvian desert—massive drawings of animals, shapes, and lines that can only be fully seen from above—and dives into the many theories about who created them and why.

Hubbard does a great job of presenting the information clearly and accessibly, making it perfect for readers who enjoy history, archaeology, or unsolved mysteries. The book is well-organized, with just the right amount of detail to keep readers interested without overwhelming them.

While it doesn’t provide many new discoveries—after all, the Nazca Lines remain an enigma—it succeeds in sparking curiosity and appreciation for this remarkable ancient culture. Overall, it’s an enjoyable and educational read that will leave you wanting to learn more about one of the world’s greatest archaeological puzzles.

A look at the Nazca Lines in Peru. When modern historians/archaeologists discovered them, and how knowledge about them and theories about their purpose have changed over the past 100 years. There's also a bit of information about the Nazca people and what we know about their culture.

I really didn't know much about the Nazca lines except that they are huge and very old and in South America. This was very interesting to read and learn more about them and how theories as to their purpose have changed over the years. A great read for curious kids.

I (mostly) love this series, and Nazca Lines is one of the best. It dove into history in a totally approachable way. It talked about all the various theories about the lines, seemingly without bias, even the really far out there idea. I loved the asides too, I found myself getting into internet rabbit holes again and again to verify the wild stories, and learn more about incredible things.

Realised this was a children's book when they explained what 'southern hemisphere' means. Now I know about the Nazca lines.

I want to visit this area. South America is diverse and it seems the history is not as well studied from an American POV. It feels like they don't get as much attention as Europe and Asia.

I guess this book did a good job of explaining the Nazca lines. However, it kind of made a very intriguing subject pretty boring.

I’m not so sure of the importance of this subject. The story was entertaining. But, to whom would I recommend it?

This was a new topic for me so I found the book quite interesting. I would recommend for middle school libraries where there is interest in unique historical sites.
