"It's strange, you know, to have someone want you. Need you.
I've never had that before."
“Last thing I wanna do is mess things up even more for Brody. Bringing some random woman into the house when he barely even looks at me won’t help. And I won’t do anything that hurts him.”
I immediately feel for the boy, and Tynan too. Brody is his cousin’s kid, the one who was killed by Raph Marino when he thought the Quinns killed his wife. Tynan stepped up and adopted the eight-year-old child. Tynan and his cousin, Aiden, were close, and it broke everyone’s heart when he died—including his wife’s, who committed suicide, leaving poor Brody without parents.
The trauma caused Brody to stop talking. And no matter what Tynan and the family have tried, nothing has helped.
“Isn’t your father all about continuing the bloodline? He’s gotta be demanding it.”
“Fuck you, McHale,” he mutters.
“I knew it. He’s on your case to tie the knot and make a family, isn’t he? We all know he’s retiring soon and putting you in charge. You knew it was coming. We all did.”
Patrick is getting older, and he wants everything in place before he retires. As the oldest, it would be Tynan’s rightful place to lead the Quinn family.
“So, as some of you know, I plan on retiring.” He locks eyes with Tynan. “It’s gonna be on you now, son. I need you to take over for me, but you know the condition I have. You have to get married.” [...]
“Why the hell do I need a wife? I have an heir right here.” He gestures toward Brody with a tilt of his chin. “And you’ve got other kids who will give you plenty.”
“Never enough, son. Not with the life we live. And you know it. You have two months, tops. Find a respectable young woman and make her your wife. Maybe smile a little, would ya? Give her some incentive to say yes.” My dad’s features light up from Tynan’s annoyed expression.
“Yeah, whatever. Fine,” he grunts.
Fionn reaches into his pocket and removes his phone. “By the way, got the 411 on the lady friend you’re stalking.”
“Wait, who are we stalking?” I ask, glancing between the brothers.
“Oh, he didn’t tell you?” Fionn laughs. “Elara Hill, Brody’s new teacher. She recently replaced the last teacher the kid had, so Tynan had me digging for dirt on her.” [...]
Cillian smirks. “She’s pretty. Maybe you should make her your wife.”
Tynan scoffs. “Never gonna happen. Not getting married.”
“Well, if you don’t want her, I’ll give my Irish luck a chance.”
I know exactly what Fionn’s doing. And if the glare on Tynan’s face is any indication, he’s succeeding quite well.
“Keep your fucking hands off of her. I don’t care that you’re my brother. I’ll kill you.”
[Declan talking] “My brother was my only family, and I’d always look out for him. So, when he fell into drugs and started dealing, I was approached by the feds. They had two options for me. Rat on the gang or let my brother get taken to maximum security federal prison, where they told me they’d have him killed.”omg he's a rat??????? 😞😞😞
