I can’t decide if this manga is more unsettling or sad. The subtle horror of an unknown creature being close to the protagonist is unnerving, though I can’t help wanting ‘Hikaru’ to stay by Yoshiki’s side if only for the comfort of his physical resemblance to his best friend.
It hurts so bad knowing that Yoshiki will never be able to confess his feelings to the real Hikaru, especially now that ‘he’ implied they were probably reciprocated while the he was still alive :( Getting to see Hikaru’s death and his last few thoughts really solidified the deep bond these two boys shared, though my heart suffered for it!! This is a great manga so far.
i love how the art style is actually pretty cute and beautiful despite the gruesomeness of the story. im enjoying this so much, i can't imagine how cool an anime adaptation of this would look
edit: OMG I MANIFESTED IT. ANIME ADAPTATION SCHEDULED FOR 2025!!🥳
Yoshiki's ass didn't listen and now this entire town is about to be dealing with some crazy shit. I can't believe that he could possibly think things would be "okay" or "normal" after dealing with "Hikaru." This story is still strange AF, but I feel like there was some clarity in this specific volume that couldn't have been explored in the first volume.
This story was equal parts creepy and heartbreaking. Watching Yoshiki struggle with accepting Hikaru's death and his feelings for the 'new' Hikaru broke my heart. Learning more about what happened in the woods the night Hikaru died made things even sadder. I really wish these boys had more time together. I don't know what ends up happening at the end of the series, but I don't think Yoshiki will be able to handle 'Hikaru' leaving him again. 5 stars
The thrill!! I need more! This series is consuming me inch by inch, just like that "it" to Yoshiki. You've traumatized me with the bathroom monsters, though. It's definitely your fault, Mokumoku, that I'm not taking a proper bath tomorrow.
“If I die, he’ll be alone… Yoshiki. I don’t wanna leave you alone.”
the fact that Hikaru’s dying wish was to remain by Yoshiki’s side, even if it wouldn’t truly be him anymore, he was willing to accept that fate as long it meant that Yoshiki wouldn’t be left alone 💔
coughing and hacking and curling into a ball — IM BEING CONSUMED AND ITS FATAL!!!!!!!
im so in love with hikaru and yoshiki’s dynamic; the push and pull of their affections, the withholding of love, the grief of losing a friend vs the yearning to hold his friends captor close, the scraping into ribcages and the cicadas constantly humming, the surge of love within an entity previously unbeknownst to the notion and his ironically human inability to handle it.
a boy and the ghost of his best friend. a creature and the boy his stolen body was in love with — OUGHHHFHHFHH OUCHHHH OOOFFFFF THE WOES FEED ME MORE!!!!!!!!!!! !!! !! !!!!!!!
I read too many books where the plot is left to sway gently in the breeze in the background while characters talk or think about their feelings ever-so-earnestly in the foreground.
Seriously speaking, I got confused... This is getting so sad:(
The central relationship between Yoshiki and "Hikaru" remains the gooey. Yoshiki's devotion is both heartwarming and deeply concerning, as he grapples with the love he holds for his friend versus the growing realization that his friend might now be a creature from another dimension who occasionally eats small animals.
The art style stands out! The delicate quality of the character contrasts with the moments of visceral creepiness.
I believe that this is one of the most uniquely captivating horror manga out there...
How to rate manga installments... idk. Normally 5 stars = Good enough I would definitely reread, but what does that mean for less exciting volumes in a series when I'm almost certain to reread them when a later volume shows up?
I liked this, but it does feel a little jumbled and is definitely less satisfying as a read than the first volume, but I think that can almost entirely be chalked up to being #2 in a series, so... ? Definitely still excited for the series and look forward to continuing. Yoshiki and *Hikaru's relationship continues to develop, and complicate, and some external threats are on the horizon.
The bits focusing on their school peers are not bad per se, but I think they kind of contribute to this volume feeling like it has a less solid throughline. The "bonus" chapter at the end of volume one actually caused me confusion at the beginning of this one as I naturally slotted it in chronologically between that volume and this, and it doesn't entirely make sense there as this one picks up on the ending of the first volume in a way that doesn't leave the emotional space for the fluffy content of the bonus chapter.
Looks like volume 3's not scheduled for english release until April. :(
FU squiggly little red line under "english", capitalizing names of languages is stupid and offensive.
1st read: **screams loudly** A love story between a dumbass little squirt and his 0% sanity boyfriend. Honestly, my thoughts about this volume are very similar to my thoughts about the first volume, so you can just check that one and see. Otherwise, that's all. Really excited about the third volume. Hope it comes out soon...
An amazing continuation to this very hunting series. Drawings are still a 10/10 and the story is getting more intense and thrilling. Not much happens in here but the atmosphere is very dark and creepy. It looks like it's going to be a long journey. Can't wait to have v3 in my hands, I tried to find it considering it was released this week, but it's still not out where I live yet sigh

Read for a goodreads group BOTM :DDD
As the plot thickens and more weird things are happening, Yoshiki becomes like 10x gayer to Hikaru 😭😭😭😭. I love my two silly bois in heree. We also get a peek now on who "Hikaru" actually is and the reasons that he exists as a replacement to the original Hikaru. I think this is now setting up to become a series with tons more lore in the following books since in this one, it's starting to change from 'gay moments between Yoshiki & Hikaru' to 'maybe this is actually a horror book featuring Hikaru's monster'. We get tons more of flashvack and tons more information on "Hikaru" & i just love how everything turned out for him. At least Yoshiki didn't straight up reject this replacement for Hikaru.
My favorite scene in this volume has to be Yoshiki ransacking Hikaru's insides. That scene has a very sensual and exquisite quality. Although I thought the continuation was weak, but the conclusion got me interested in reading it again.
This just het creepier and creepier, there are more things coming up and I need to know all of them so I'm looking forward for the next books. The ghost in Hikaru's body is hiding something and that's no good, but I kinda feel bad for him even though I shouldn't. Yoshiki is attracting "things" from the other side, so the old lady was right apparently, he just keeps getting closer to whatever the other side is.
"I got bounced back" (GHOST HIKARU) The weird thing appears in his hands, and he leaves, I need to know what the f is that why is appearing like that and the consequences, also why does it goes all over Yoshiki when he touches the ghost
"Seriously at this point anyone will do... take my place and stay by his side" (HIRAKU) He is almost dead, and he just thinks about leaving his friend alone, cute? But maybe what he said was made the ghost take his body, cuz I don't think that everyone that's almost dying is possessed by a ghost, but that's probably not it, hopefully I'll get my answers.
"There's something appealing about you to those things from the other side" (GHOST HIKARU) He says it like he isn't one of "those things from the other side", but we'll ignore that and is he "appealing" because Hikaru's ghost is there or there's another reason and that's why the ghost ended up there. I'd said he should have listened to the lady, but the ghost isn't in his 5 senses so if Yoshi decides to leave or do something about it, he might kill him, or who knows.
(I need to see the ghost perspective, I need answers)

in this second volume of the summer hikaru died, yoshiki continues struggling with accepting the new hikaru. when he’s shown a glimpse of what’s lurking inside of him, he doesn’t know if he should finally listen to the advice he was given and stay away.
something i loved about the previous volume was yoshiki’s internal struggle with grieving hikaru while having “hikaru” right in front of him, so i liked seeing this continue to be explored in this volume. there were a lot more flashbacks, so we got to see more of who the real hikaru was and what he meant to yoshiki. i also enjoyed seeing more of the spirit realm, as we got to see what is inside of “hikaru” and even met another ghost. i can’t wait for the next volume!
